Helical Pier Systems

As i work there i would suggest staying away for this position. They don't want anyone to take charge at all they don't want change and the system that they have from what i hear is so disorganized and unfinished its better to call it a disaster. The management are not friendly and will turn on you the second they get the chance. If you get into the HSE part be aware the overall manger does not make time for you and has no clue to what she is doing. She has no idea what needs to be done and things are not done and kept up to date. They do not pay well at all and for what stress you have to deal with you should be paid more. There reports are never done and things are unreported all the time or the lack of communication in the company Safety does not here about it for a few days and when you question it management would like you to not get involved. They are way behind on times and the policies are so far out of date it should be criminal on how they get away with things. If they want to fix things they need to start at the top with the safety manger who looks after all areas the US and canada she and a few of field staff are what hurts the company the most no clue on procedures and how safety should work. They have had a person in this position before and because she knew what she was doing and new how to make the system work the safety manager let her go. We as field people enjoyed working with her and the field safety like the fact that she knew what she was doing and was there to help us  where we needed it. Due to her knowing the issues and trying to fix them they let her go because she was a threat to one of the managers. We all miss her and feel they made a large mistake but then its made evident our safety is not important production is. So in conclusion if you know what your doing in this field you will be pushed out the door before you get to your desk. PRODUCTION comes First NOT safety and that should be our company logo

Senior Management and all of my co-workers were team oriented and always did their best to think outside the box. 

The Management 4-star rating above reflects lower level Supervisors. Although a very professional team, the Five Star rating is reserved for Senior Management. 

The Salary and Benefits are on par or better than standard.

Due to the nature of the work and industry needs, work/life balance can get a little off kilter.  If you want a more controlled work/life balance go work 9-5 ...  

I loved almost every moment, hitting the ground running; learning something new all the time. A wonderful experience and I'm forever grateful.

I've read some other reviews for HPS on here and I think those negative comments are a reflection persons writing them.  If you can't get along with this team, you best be working for yourself, or stay unemployed.

Great peaple at the bottom of the ladder but be very aware of the people at the top , very deceiving! Had the pleasure of meeting some life long friends there , but also saw a lot of qualified good people let go because they stood up to management, leaving unqualified substance abusers to do the dirty work! And beware there still there! Stay away from employment here , unless your planning to work in Kingston or Houston, where there are no senior managers!( hence the only good reviews on here!)  The product sells it self!           The old owner of Peaceland Piles is probably turning over in his grave, he would have never sold out if he knew what would was happening to the company he put many years of sweat into!

This company is utterly toxic and doesn't pay its bills. The management is so shameless, full of lies, favoritism & nepotism. They have no decency left for their minuscule remaining staff. They have no problem firing anyone with fake causes/excuses to merely save couple of weeks termination pay in lieu and ruin innocent careers because they have nothing left to fear for, not even lawsuits from ex-employees. They just find easy scapegoats to release their frustration from sheer incompetence. Another reviewer has correctly mentioned the sheer madness going on here. Stay away from this company as far as you can to save your career, time & effort.

I am appalled at the sheer incompetence in senior management. People being advanced into positions they know nothing about because of nepotism, or favoritism. Company is drowning in debts, both payable and receivables, and has laid off pretty much 3/4 of the office staff. 
Benefits included very expensive extended health benefits that cost around 40$ per pay period, but didn't deliver on decent dental (80% to a max of 1500$/year) or 1500$/year on a max of three providers, and only 500$/year per service provider.
Overall, I was shocked mostly at senior management that just struggled to get anything done.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Fast paced , constant learning , good work environment, safety oriented. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Deadlines can be hectic at times . But rewarding once completed 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Noisy . Fast paced . Co workers were fun and easy to get along with . BBQs , and group lunches ,at least the shop in medicine Hat. Not sure if the other facilities did the same. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Daily safety meetings start the day with daily tasks given out. Fast paced environment. Sometimes relaxed .

A change in the finance division was required, however, it is very difficult to deal with angry vendors and subcontractors because not enough revenue is generated. Multiple layoffs within a few months times due to low revenues. Pretty certain that a couple of people at the management level behave more like bullies rather than leaders.   Very little “spine” when it comes to  being able to back their own people from within.   There are a few examples also of people being hired there that are just not qualified on the office end.

Piling manager had trust issue with running equipment so be prepared to stay on your feet, even though I had more experience than anyone else and was smoother than anyone.

A lot of talking behind your back and fellow supervisors always trying to belittle you.

Was left on many occasion out in -25 -30 for several hours without warm up breaks due to Supervisors being ignorant.

I learned how to manage a crew and well. Also learned how to confront problems find a simple and efficient way around the issues. Dealing with clients and office management was a excellent learning curve as well, getting the experience of the insurance and outs of the paper work what happens behind doors.

The guys at the shop were all great to work with and made the day go by well! You earned your money with the work they put you through, but the guys made it more than worth it. The HR department was horrendous to work with, as was the then shop manager. He was a yes man to the clients, which made our jobs harder. Overall an alright place to work, just avoid the office people.
