Hendriks Restaurant and Bar

Working as a server in Hendriks Restaurant & Bar is a great place to get a lot of shifts, make a lot of tips, and find your home away from home with the great team that is there. Management will train you properly and always speak to you about how you can grow, get better, and be the best person in your position. They also understand life happens and have no issue with trading shifts. Although is can be stressful sometimes because it is a very busy restaurant, it's the best place to be a server or bartender. The dinner service relies heavily on teamwork and as a new server, I felt like I was a part of the team instantly. The team also loves going out for drinks after the end of a shift, and you really feel like a family there.

I worked at Hendriks for 6 months when I moved to Toronto and staff and management were very friendly and welcoming, which made my transition to a new city very warm and easy! When working at Hendriks I found that if you went into your shift driven and ready to make money you walk out with some serious cash! The location is prime for making good tips but it all came down to each individuals grind and motivation during shift. Management is organized and very supportive ! When I had to inform my manager I was moving home he was very understanding! Unfortunately I was so heart broken when I resigned because I developed amazing relationships with my coworkers which made it difficult to leave. I would 100% recommend people to work here!!! 

The work process is rather organized which makes navigation at the workplace clear even for newcomers. 

Higher management is extremely understanding, rational and explicit. Floor manager is friendly, usually on the same page as the rest of the staff. 

Management schedules enough people not to run around tables; therefore, there is an opportunity for servers to build rapport and provide higher customer service to guests.

Sometimes there are complications in workload and scheduling which is totally understandable because of the pandemic and business overall. 


I still think about how badly I was treated at this job. Hopefully things have changed because the other staff deserve better. 

The pay is mediocre at best especially considering the workload. The owners are also the General Manager and Head Chef, and despite boasting their many years experience in the industry, I can tell you the only reason this restaurant is successful it it's location. 

The General Manager is an ex cop from Florida, who refused to wear a mask even in the height of the pandemic. Which is something I wish I would have known before taking the job.

Finally I will say, this is NOT a LGBTQIA+ inclusive space.


I enjoyed my time working for Hendriks. Leadership is there, guidance is there… fast paced and structured environment, which leaves no room for grey area. Always very accommodating to the guests needs, which in turn lends to the excellent gratuities! 
The service standard relies heavily on teamwork, and when I was the new kid on the block.. I felt like I was apart of the team instantly. Having high standards means the guests get what they deserve, the staff has consistency and are all treated fairly… to me those are very valuable assets in a workplace. 

Hendriks is a high-class restaurant that is fast-paced, in the heart of downtown and when the theatre is rolling it's very busy, so there are a lot of opportunities to make great tips. Especially if you upsell bottles or alcohol. The staff is very inclusive in the FOH, the BOH was not as much, only a few people there were really incredible. You definitely learn a lot here, and if you succeed here you can succeed literally anywhere.

I probably only worked at this place for a month before quitting, and seeing they are still in desperate need of employees shows they are unsuccessful in finding people to work here. Great location, but the younger staff is beyond rude and self entitled. The management tries to be intimidating and expects the work shared amongst everyone on the floor - which is not included in the job description on here. The environment is toxic and uncomfortable. 0/10 would never come back here or recommend to anyone. 

I worked there during the holidays and I had no choice but to work on New Year's eve. The FOH management has favoritism toward certain hostesses. The management also had a condescending communication style which made it hard to enjoy a shift. Hosting was pretty easy but it does get busy during night time or when there is an event at the theatre near by. Expect to work split shifts.

As a student, I find hendriks to be one of the most accommodating restaurants. the management remains flexible regardless of my schedule, and gives me an adequate number of hours. 
The team is extremely collaborative - you don’t hear the words “my/your table” and it’s a refreshing change. Collaboration is prioritized and it reflects in service.  Overall, I would recommend working at hendriks. 


Wonderful place to work as a bartender/server. Both the FOH and BOH staff are great. Management is always willing to help if needed. Very busy and fast paced environment. Hendriks is innovative and always trying to make their business, customer service, food, drinks and guest experience the best it can be. Happy to be part of the team!
