I am a long term employee of 10 plus years and so far had many opportunities. It can be a busy environment and its not for everyone. There are opportunities for improvement with the business, but over all I believe we are going in the right direction. I would recommend giving the company a chance, don't let the bad reviews fool you. PROS: Work/life balance, Friendly team, Flexibility, understanding management on all levels (within reason), healthy, profitable business. I think change can be hard for people, and this company is very adaptive with change happening all the time, with the intent of growth (with growth comes opportunity). Sometimes the change works, sometimes its not the best, and back to the drawing board we go. Best for people who like to be busy and adapt to change. People with problem solving skills and drive will likely become more successful in this business. Not for folks that cannot accept change, or be pushed to do greater things. This work matters!

My time at Hercules SLR was not a pleasant time but thankfully, I made it short.

In under a year, I watched my entire department leave the company only to be replaced with a team of unintelligent, unprofessional individuals with very little industry experience. This lead me to pick up the slap for a team of 6 incompetent's.

Production Management's experience lies solely in forklift refresher courses; making them beyond unfit and unprepared for the role which resulted in me choosing to part ways with the company. 

Low pay, a lot of pressure from management to work extra hours and weekends which go unaccounted for, and production staff rarely gets approved for time off.  

There has not been a day I've looked back at Hercules to wonder if I could've accomplished more. The culture is abusive with many close knit circles of old dogs and it is only the old dogs that climb the ladder.

Management at Hercules SLR likes to talk the talk of being a company who is sympathetic towards its employees, but it is very much the opposite. They simply do not care about their people. If you do not agree with the ideas of upper management, you will literally be fired, regardless of your position at the company. The general feeling I got from talking to people across various departments, was that everyone had just given up trying to make things better. The pay is low for the expectations put on the employees, and they do not offer proper training to provide you with the foundation to succeed. It's a lose lose situation for everyone. Until management starts actively listening to their employees, and are willing to be open to critiques, things will never change.

This company has been in business for over 35 years and still operates like it has 6 months of experience in all aspects. Extremely toxic chain of command, no communication from head office, no accountability from management, no appreciation for hard working employees, disorganized, no support, they don't pay, no room for promotions, the list can go on. I worked there for 6 years with the hardest work ethic, followed all rules/policies, worked after hours, amazing customer feedback, took part in all training for improvement, and still was never paid for my efforts. I was treated like a stranger when I resigned.  I realize everyone is replaceable, but great/hard-working/loyal employees are hard to find these days. And Hercules couldn't care less about their employees. You're just a number, and someone will do your job for cheaper.  

Worked a few months but one of the day managers was not a nice person. No encouragement whatsoever.  The training was not very thorough therefore succeeding in a new position without assistance could become very discourging. 
General manager seemed to want to change the culture and increase job reviews but  wasn’t around much to see the mistreatment of one manager specifically. 
When asking specific questions regarding the orders in the warehouse, and receiving a response “he would rather do it himself” is unprofessional. This could be a great place to work if managed correctly.  Have run into others who encountered the same issues with the same manager. HR needs to be more present to see how people are being trained and how the work flow helps their business.

This company has a lot of opportunity to expand and excel. I think they have a hard time grasping where to start first. There is a lack of direction on initiatives and they aren't transparent on what is going on in the company. 

Very sales focused with little desire to improve employee retention. They do not provide current employees pathway/timeline for opportunities for growth (both salary and professional). 

Hardest part of the job: learning the business and the right people to connect with to get answers

Typical day at work: In office 8am-5pm with little to no co-worker interaction. 

Most enjoyable part of the job: there are some really great and hardworking people at this company that are a pleasure to work with. 

Weren’t ready for me when I started. Took a week to get my work tools. My Regional manager didn’t call to welcome me or check on me for weeks. No idea of the goals of my position, no KPI’s in place to measure success. Pitiful direction. Complete Inability to actually provide the services or equipment I was tasked with selling. Archaic expectations of office time for the role I was in. Toxic culture allowed to fester. Straight up lied to me about commission structure. No performance review or goal setting after probationary period. Zero investment in business development opportunities. Absolutely no competitive advantage in our market. Just a hot mess of a company. Do not waste your time. 

I have truly enjoyed my work as I was able to learn a lot of things. I worked independently and the management has given me the opportunity to run the Engineering Department. Since this is a small work environment with a few number of people holding multiple responsibilities, multi-tasking is a key important skill to do your job effectively. The most challenging part of the job is to coordinate people in order to complete the job on time. I have encountered vendors and co-workers that made few promises but never delivers. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
We had the weekends off. Monday to Friday.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The company was in a shambles. Even though they knew it, they were not proactive in listening and actively making it better.  Too many people with blinders.  Made everything harder than one would expect it to be.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They say one thing and do another.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Go to work, try and find what to do and then spend 1 hour trying to create an invoice only to find the system won't work right. Tell the customer to come back later. There isn't a fast in and out for a customer at Hercules and it is frustrating.

Hercules' Head Office is a really great place to work. The team is supportive, collaborative, and always willing to help each other out.

Process improvement is a big part of how we work, and it’s been rewarding to contribute to new initiatives and see the impact firsthand. Looking back on the projects I’ve been involved with over the years, I feel proud of what we’ve accomplished and excited for what’s ahead. 

It’s a place where you can learn, take initiative, and be part of real improvements, all alongside people who genuinely care about doing things the right way.

If you’re interested in process improvement, safety, and teamwork, I’d definitely recommend Hercules as a place to grow and make a difference.
