I am rather surprised at some of the reviews here, they seem very retaliatory but hard to know why they feel that way. Here is what I do know. 

Management have all been there for 2 yrs or more, except 1. That 1 manager role has changed 3 times in 2 years, until recently it seems they just promoted someone from within even though they may not have had the managerial or leadership needed.  A couple of managers have changed roles but are still managers. Some of them have been there since the company was founded.   The Senior Management which is the owner and two others, have a lot of experience and seem to be taking the company in the right direction. 

They pay well but they expect you to earn it.  They have been going through changes in structure and even how they operate but nothing dramatic over the last 2 years from what I have seen.   I would also add, again from my point of view, that there has been a a few constant complainers who see everything as negative and wrong but offer no real positive solutions. Most of those people are no longer there so that may make a better environment. 

I have seen Senior Management go out of their way to help people,  I'd say they care very much. I would also add that I have seen employees take advantage of their good nature and not really have the companies best interest at heart. I have seen people released from their jobs but, from my point of view they seemed to have done it to themselves, though I don't know all the facts so I am just expressing my opinion. 

Training is adequate but could be a lot better. There are a lot of things you need to know that are hard to find or not documented which makes the job tougher. I hear they are working on solutions for that, but for now I would say that the roles require us to be resourceful and creative, which I like. 

I would recommend this as a place to work if you are willing to work hard, be positive, give honest feedback to management, be somewhat self motivated, resourceful and actually care about your role or job. 

 No company is perfect, but I feel they are above average from employers I have seen over the years. I also think you will get out of your experience what you put into it. An old boss of mine told me that it is a 2-way street, can't expect the company to be better if you do not do your part to make it better. I find that to be true anywhere, but especially there.

Some nice people to work with here

The pay scale is so broken here ,you can be hired same time as someone else 
They have no experience what so ever and they can and will make a substantial amount more then you
Employees who have been here for many years dont even make the same wage as new employees,  new employees make on average 3 to 5 dollars more an hour more then an employee who has been there for a couple years 
Not even a good place to work  unless your related to Management then you get to do what you want with no repercussions ......throw things , make accusations about other employees and so on 
Well its a good place if you need beer money for the weekend since it has a very high turn over rate 😉

Management is so hard on you if they do not like you for any reason
Be stupid as this is a no Brainer job 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment was good as some people,e were nice to work with
And there is no culture when management is some what on the racist side

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day here is not good 
Hit there numbers daily and then all of a sudden you have to do more cause management says you don't do enough

They continually claim that they established the company with the intention of improving employees lives, but their actions contradict their words.

They provide minimal vacation time, basic benefits, and exceedingly low salaries (with no salary increases for anyone I know in the past two to three years). The 2% RRSP matching is only offered after three years.

Overall, the management is ineffective and fails to support career advancement or earn trust. The compensation is unacceptably low. Extremely toxic.

It is essential for this company to understand that employees do not need cheap branded lunches or trinkets; what we truly need is fair compensation.

Additionally, the company atmosphere is reminiscent of a dystopia. In the lunchroom, instead of offering shows or entertainment for employees to enjoy during their breaks, they play content praising the company. This creates a cult-like environment where nobody feels content since the arrival of these new DVDs, which focus on promoting the company's image.

I worked at HERD for a little over a year. Overall, the job is okay, but it really depends on what position you have.

If you're working as a polisher, you can expect to be stuck at $19/hour for a very long time. Career growth within the company is not based on how well you work, but rather on your behavior. Even if you exceed your production targets, instead of getting a raise, they will just increase your workload.

The work environment is friendly, and most of the employees are Indian, who generally support each other. The supervisors (who are also mostly Indian) are approachable and willing to help.

The job itself is extremely repetitive and very dirty. Be prepared to wash off a ton of dust from yourself every day, especially your neck, if you don’t wear a balaclava. You will be working 8 hours a day wearing a filtered mask, which is not very comfortable.

In the summer, the factory turns into an oven because the air conditioning never works due to the amount of dust in the air.

Final Thoughts
If you're looking for a short-term job, this company might be an option. However, if you're expecting career growth and salary increases, it's better to look elsewhere. I would recommend HERD only as a temporary job if you have no other options at the moment.

The only good part of this job was the free lunches and consistent hours. The place is lead by a bunch of egotistical people with little man syndrome. You try and tell anyone what should be changed or how you can improve productivity and because they didn’t think of it then it wasn’t a good idea. They will promote people to be in charge of departments with no knowledge of department and let them tell you how to do your job. The new pay system is awful, they say it’s “designed to help the best performers get raises” but they have designed it so not a single person in the shop can get to the highest lvl unless it’s favouritism. The amount of work you do no longer matters so you can do 3x as much work as the other guys and not get a raise or bonus because the new pay system doesn’t value the work you do. Also no room for growth because rather then promoting from within they would rather hire people from the outside with no knowledge of the company and have them decide how things are gonna be, just to watch them continuously fail and get rotated out.

I'm sad to have seen this place go down hill so quickly over the course of the last year. When I started working here the expectations on us were realistic and manageable, the management would actively look out for the employees and I felt valued as an employee. In the past couple months many large changes have been made for the worse, the management is no longer on your side, they will penalize you for everything, from being sick to not working overtime. These new expectations are near impossible to keep up with and the management heavily favours certain people. The people that I've worked with here have been the only saving grace during this time period and almost all of the experienced employees are being pushed out the door in favour of employees who don't care about quality and are willing to break their backs for less pay. I have not felt valued here for some time now and I hope this may change for the people still here.

It used to be the people, but so many have quit with how bad things have become.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nobody has gotten a raise in over two years. They state up to $30- that's a gimmick. The top welders that have been there for years aren't making that much. Nobody is safe. They'll fire you on a whim and it's not a safe place if your a woman.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is being burnt-out, under paid and toxic. There's a reason they always have openings. It's gotten to the point where they can't keep employees and no one with any other option wants to apply.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Watching problems get bigger and bigger while all the supervisors stand around scratching their heads.

Don't even consider working at Herd. They are a company that is run by bad people, who are bad at running a company. There is no stability, the company's direction changes on the whims of management, and the politics are crazy. The culture is toxic, depressing, and as much as they say they're entrepreneurial, that's just how they justify all the crazy tail chasing that they do. I hated being their most days, then they hired a new president and I started hating every day. I'm pretty sure this is the worst employer in Manitoba. 

Respect yourself enough to say no to this company. They are a terrible place to work.

One of the best place to work. I started there in Prefabrication my supervisor manager and whole team put their efforts for betterment of employees. Management care about employee and easy to approach. You can share your problems with people and culture team anytime. They listen and try to solve them immediately. If there is an incident or report they do proper investigation of that. They do care about their employees health and safety. I would recommend this workplace to work. Friendly environment not stressful. HR help employees if they have any issues even if its their work related or any personal matters to deal with.

Employees are treated as disposable, no job security. Little value placed on employees thoughts/concerns. Pay well, but not worth in long run. With the exception of 1 person,  who resigned as a manager, left the company and later returned in a non managerial position,100% of all managers, sales, customer service and administration positions have turned over through firings and resignations over the past 12 - 18 months. 
Positions  in job the posting sound really good, and they talk a good game during the interview, but the reality is much different. 
Steer clear of this company if you can.
