A typical day at Hero Home Care was active and meaningful, involving care coordination, clinical oversight, communication with clients and families, and ongoing support of caregiving staff. Each day required strong organization, clinical judgment, and empathy. Through this role, I learned advanced care-management skills, strengthened leadership abilities, and gained confidence working with modern care software, updated protocols, and evidence-based practices. Management is highly professional, approachable, and genuinely supportive of staff development. The workplace culture is respectful, collaborative, and strongly client-centered. The hardest part of the job is the emotional responsibility and the need to be available outside standard hours, including weekends and holidays, because many clients rely on timely support in their homes after returning from hospital or when they suddenly become unwell while living alone. The most enjoyable part is making a real difference in people’s lives and being part of a dedicated, compassionate, and professional team.

Let me start by saying that as far as the clients that were in my care, was the only reason why I went to work. The clients and some of the family members made me feel appreciated to have them in my care. 

Favoritism is another concern; it often felt like some employees received leniency for mistakes while others faced scrutiny for similar issues. This created an environment where it was important to maintain a façade of positivity just to be treated fairly. There were a lot of caregivers that got away with questionable behaviors like calling in sick, to go to the bar. While the caregivers who are actually violently sick, Management/On-call staff would tell them to go get some aspirin along the way. They would also make an attempt to negotiate with your sleep and personal life. By asking you to answer emails/phone calls on your personal time or Change the start times of your shifts without your consent to convenient other caregivers who want to leave their shift early, (you don't get additional pay for doing “extra” work). 

If you are an immigrant of the country, they will use you and make all sorts of promises to help you with your immigration process. Only to reap the benefits of you working and you will get nothing in return from them. And have your immigration status at risk. 

They will have you chasing them for shifts. To the point, where it feels like you Are harrassing them. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Worked with HHC for about a year.  Good onboarding program which gives you an overview of the company.  Great collaboration with a core group of team members.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
High expectations from the owners and upper level management.  Lack of trust and communication between them and the team causing confusion with  lots of finger pointing.   Be prepared to be micro managed, and scrutinized should you make a mistake.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture of the office  work very well together especially in stressful situations.    They often find humour especially in the communal kitchen.  Do note due to the size of the company,  opportunities to grow within the company are slim to none.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On my average day of work, I start the day off by checking my emails. This way, I can reply to clients and get everything organized at the start of the day. I then look over my to-do list and get started on the projects that have my top priority.

The most enjoyable part of that job is supporting people, encouraging them and knowing I am making a difference in peoples lives.  Loved having an experienced, trained and kind manager.   I learned that it is important to keep showing up and bringing a smile to every client's face.
Hardest part of that job is the hours are not stable or consistent, no position can be given and financially can be very tight.  The pay was low, though I had tones of experience and training.  
I am grateful to have supported some awesome clients and sad when some died.
I have an attitude of gratitude and always appreciated how encouraged I was when I did my work.


Too much training and meeting every day. No time to because of many meeting and then employer complain about less work done. Employer always complain nag about everything. Unfair work and force all employees to work more than work hours. Even after office hours and weekend without overtime pay. Even if sick must go to work or employer call and force to go. Too many bosses all nagging staff together so rude.

Everyone is happy to see you 
And they are very thankful at the end of your shift.
Management is very supportive 
Not to comfortable when l have to say goodbye to a client 
When l hear my clients having fun with me 
We have some good laughs 
When l make there day easier. Finding a better way that works for them

Low salary—> they only raise your wage once a year (on Nov)
If you reject the shifts, they push you and keep messaging you until you say yes 
Clients address on the apps sometimes wrong so you need call them for the right address 

Hero Home Care was a great place for me to work when I was looking for extra hours to support my other part time job. I was later able to build up to a fuller schedule when I was ready. I felt supported and built a great connection with my care manager.
