There is continuous cross-talk and misinformation given by higher ups that result in confusion. Considering the nature of the work, there should be constant re-evaluating of systems that are not working and ways to improve the children’s way of life. 
Often when changes need to be made, employees are met with apathy from management. The company’s first instinct is to terminate employment of individuals when something goes awry, instead of educating and fixing deep-rooted issues. There is no sense of job security with this company. The company is essentially a revolving door, this is an incredibly toxic model as it negatively effects the children we aim to help.

Management is lacking here and no standards are kept up. I would come into work one day and things were to be done a certain way, then the next shift it’s all over the place. Staff are constantly illegally on rotation and on call doesn’t care, team leads will be on call and won’t come in to cover shifts. I was left overnight multiple times to work with multiple kids with some who needed 1-1. It’s below market wage for above market work. The only pro is that they focus on sibling groups so they’re trying to keep families together and they treat the kids really well, staff on the other hand, they’re forgotten about and over worked and under paid. 

The company expects staffs to work with high risk behavioural children, without any training and appropriate guidelines. The On Call team leaders are often unhelpful, confused, and provide wrong instructions. The team leaders and few staffs at company often tend to gossip and spread false information. As well, the job is not secure. Staffs are fired spontaneously without any investigations and inquiries. The management offers little to no help in dealing with stressful situations within the house. 

Good team work. Shifts are good. Typical day starts 7 am, during the hours I worked I would assist clients on morning routine, help them get ready for school. Transport clients to and from school, medical appointments, plan recreational outing and cultural outings. Paper consisted of daily log, daily progress reports, daily data. House month ends, clients month ends, quarterly reports, supervision reports for staff and clients. Grocery shopping, house shopping, clothing shopping. Working with a budget.

Busy mornings getting the kids off to school, most don’t want to get out of bed due to lack of motivation or poor parenting when they come into care. Lots of cleaning and cooking outings. One thing the owner does is ensure the kids get access to fun activities and cultural enrichment.

Was recently involved in a group layoff and given less than one week notice of losing my shifts for the week. The rules for clients are always changing. The company preaches about being a "home" for our clients, but it honestly felt like a prison a lot of the time. Management moved all workers around and provided little security for employees as well as clients. Management needs improvement. 

The overall work environment was generally welcoming. Most of the Youth Workers and supervisors were kind, caring, and friendly. Overall, it was a tolerable place to work if one could overlook the management and the inadequate compensation. The owner and management appeared to be overworked, which often resulted in poor communication and strained interactions with the staff.

Group Care with high demands.  Not sure why others are surprised they work with high behaviors children, this isn't daycare. Kids in group care have significant trauma that impacts their ability to regulate their emotions resulting in difficulty managing their behaviors.  Staff are provided with external training in trauma informed care, de-escalation and other training.

The organization provided supports but was not supportive. Supports such as trainings but most where in house and not recognized. It was not a supportive place. Staff were always reminded that gossip was not acceptable, yet it stemmed from leadership.  Staff would not work out problems and would go directly to the ED.

I loved working with the youth and doing the work, but the company was run so poorly that I could not continue to work there. The management did not value or respect their workers, and there was extreme turnover due to it. Overall working for the company was a disorganized mess I lasted a year and it was a year too long.
