HighTies Cannabis Store

With so many stores, working at High Ties varies depending on what location you’re at, your understanding and level of expectations, and how much you intend to put into the job.  Simply put: expect a central location to be busy with a large customer base where some days are filled with sales, and others vary depending on time of day and month; expect a more suburban location to have less customer interaction with more free time, but the possibility of fewer hours available.  
If you’re interested in working in cannabis retail, at High Ties, there is a smaller, close knit management, so what you put in, typically you will get out.  Meaning: if you come in and do the job well, and treat everyone with respect, you are likely to move up when possible.  If you are expecting to come in and point out real or perceived flaws to highlight your abilities, you will likely be regarded in a similar manner.  Use your imagination: as a manager, would you prefer to work with someone who does the job, or someone who believes pointing out (what they think are) your mistakes and why not do it their way? 
Overall, no cannabis retailer is perfect; it’s a very young industry barely 5 years going, and no business is perfect in any industry, nor any employee.  The profit margins in retail, particularly cannabis, are so thin, there is simply not enough money spent to accommodate some people’s expectations.  In my case, the following is exactly what I experienced: when working hard and doing what is asked I moved up quickly, and when I clashed with people I was less “on the inside group.”  This is understandable, and yes there are some issues with communication and scheduling, but for a job that is generally laid back, where you get to talk about cannabis all day, there are much worse scenarios.  
Everyone on this side of the industry are stretched thin; I very much sympathized with middle management who had a small input and large responsibilities, with limited resources- again, this is not specific to High Ties, it is the same with most young companies, which ALL cannabis dispensaries are.
Enter with realistic expectations, treat your colleagues with respect, excel at your position, and you will move up.  Dwell on issues that are minor and beyond your pay grade and full understanding, and you may not have the ideal experience.

There is not enough bad things I can say about working here. It’s the lowest paying dispensary in the city (multiple people quitting has gotten them to raise the pay to $15.50 though! Still less than any other dispensary). You receive no discounts as an employee and they are more expensive than most dispensaries. There is little to no management involvement in the store and day to day business, so it’s ultimately up to the employees who receive no training to make sure the store stays running. Despite the lack of management presence, they still have high expectations of their employees and expect them to be the perfect face of the business, regardless of the corruption of the management. When you do address issues to management, you’re met with passive aggressiveness, and told that they’re “still figuring things out” (you guys chose to open 5 stores in 5 months, it’s not your employees fault that you don’t care enough to even pretend like you do). There are many other dispensaries open in the city, you’d be better of working ANYWHERE else.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The only “good” thing about this company is when you get to go home after working a 5 hour shift lmao.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything. The management, the hours that they give you. They book you in even on days that you’ve requested off… the environment and the area is horrible. They’ve got a hole in their ceiling for god’s sake. Their whole front door is still smashed which is real welcoming for new employees & customers… how embarrassing. Just over all a dirty place to work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Be prepared to call the police literally almost every single day because they let everyone in and they don’t care about their employees safety.

Fairly chill job for the most part, however stores are chronically understaffed meaning you will work most, if not all, shifts alone, it's hard to get days off or have a sick day covered, and you will often not receive proper breaks. If anything goes wrong while you are working alone you will be blamed.
Pay is very low considering the company owner flexes luxury vehicles & shoes and you must be licensed to work in cannabis stores. 
Store managers are great, but upper management team is disorganized, plays favourites, and does not treat staff with respect as human beings.

First, its hard to sell products that are something 40 % more expensive than OCS or other stores ! ! 

Second, management is completely inept.

Third, They hire people over and over and people leave for other shop as this is the worst cannabis company ! 

Fourth: Pay is lower than any other store in the industry and NO employee discount with already super high prices.

Fifth: The disconnect from owners and management and lack of understanding of the cannabis industry is what makes this shop hard to work at and shop at for a customer since they are so far from knowing what works and client wants.



Overall it's one of the WORST places to work.
Management don't care about you at all, it's minimum wage but yet they expect you to do everything and they expect you to do THEIR jobs on top of your own, they give you too much to handle or nothing at all (we sit here for hours twirling our thumbs, waiting for customers to come in), the "Higher Ups" lie about a lot of things or over exaggerate,  etc etc (I would mention EVERYTHING but then I would be here writing for a few hours)

They except too much for what they pay/ benefits. Had no sick day benefits. Upper management very obviously played favorites in terms of employees and stores. If you were sick and couldn't go in? You were forced to go in. The first 2 months were ok, they act like they care, but once 2 months pass, true colors are shown. High turnover rate, dishonest about work conditions and hours. Do not recommend

The job itself was quite laid back and enjoyable. Management was a mess. Very catty dynamics. There’s like 12 managers and it takes up to 30 minutes to reach one, which is difficult when you are a working alone in a location in a rather unsafe neighborhood. I had customers who live in the area come in and tell me that I was not safe working there by myself as a young woman. Coworkers are lovely but it’s just run poorly on the back end. 

This is an exciting time for cannabis users as it has become highly available all over. People are content, curious, and always keep me on my toes- so it's a nice challenge in that aspect.
The owners and staff are easy to approach with anything you need to discuss and try to assist you in every way possible. 
Great work atmosphere with no pressure selling.

I loved working here and I loved learning more about products and the industry! Everyone is super kind and my team was super fun. Very laid back job, but can get long standing on your feet all day. Either way, this is a great place to work, especially if you are a university or college student.
