Pay: Not great 

Management: Hardly do their job but will watch to make sure you are doing yours and theirs. 

Where to start... management is the biggest downfall of this place. They want you to drop your whole life to work for minimum wage. I’ve personally been told that I have no option other than to stay late. There’s been lots of complaints that management will just expect you to stay late or cover shifts. I’ve personally had a manager come up to me and ask me and my partner which one of us was going to stay late and which one of us was going to cover someone else’s shift with no option. Expecting too much for too little. If someone calls in the manager doesn’t want to do the work instead she asks that you call every employee to get the shift covered. They have in the past just added shifts to my schedule without asking. Very disorganized and negative, you won’t be told if you’re doing a good job but you sure will if they think you aren’t. Favouritism is a huge issue, so is disrespectful behaviour from management. They expect you to come in before your scheduled time and leave after your scheduled time. Just a fair warning before you start working here no one seems to be happy here. Very short of staff. - with reason. 

I was hired here as a Life Enrichment Coordinator in the Care Wing. This unit was fun to work in as we were able to interact closely with the resident and learn more about them on a personal level. While working in this unit I worked closely with the Nursing department and Housekeeping staff to ensure all residents needs were met. The staff are very friendly and are willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Management is very approachable and willing to work with me and my school schedule to ensure I could complete my education. I'm very sad to be leaving as my dad has received a job opportunity in Ottawa. Very rewarding workplace and family oriented!

I love my job and the people I work with. I learned so much by working in a Retirement home. The residents especially make the job great. It’s always amazing to hear their stories, as well as expressing their gratitude for any help you’ve given them. I don’t see myself leaving this job anytime soon. I find that Management is also great and understanding work life balance especially when you have children or trying to balance a job and home life. It can get busy at times like any other job can , but you just ask for help and stay calm like everything in life it always works out. Im not planning to leave this job!!

We do shift change huddles at the beginning and end of shift with fellow team members.
Learned how do medication dispensing along with Emar and PPC.
We are part of creating the care plans for residents which are signed off by the nurses.
Doing fall assessments and transfers to hospital.

The staff are always busy with little break time. Management are not at all appreciative of the hard work being done. Not only are you a housekeeper you also have to serve breakfast and lunch. Very. stressful work environment because of this. The owner is stubborn and not open to new ideas. The salesperson is aloof. The mother of the owner is there everyday and is very out spoken. She should not be in the service profession. They need to turn down the intensity and expectations placed upon the employees.


As an employee who’s been with the company since 2017, I have seen a lot of growth. Some days can be stressful, but management is always there with an open ear and a willingness to help get through whatever the problem may be.
The residents especially make the job great. It’s always amazing to hear their stories, as well as expressing their gratitude for any help you’ve given them. I don’t see myself leaving this job anytime soon as I love it! Management is also great in understanding work life balance especially.

Highgate is a great place to work, everyday is different and you never feel stuck in your role. The residents are a pleasure to interact with and management is always very approachable if you have any concerns or questions. 

Highly recommend if you are looking for a place with a friendly family atmosphere and having close working relationships with your peers and managers.

4:00 - you clock in as well as 6 others if you clock in before or after 4:00pm there will be a late deprivation and a significant amount will be taken out of your pay
4:00-7:00 - do whatever you have called for your shift and wait for everyone else to be finished their work because no one actually does their work right, on time or efficiently.

The best in care and most of all good management.

Taking Double shift because your co working call in sake.

This company is a very good place of opportunity to grow and learn additional skills and to be a part of a great team.  Team members are friendly and helpful. Management is supportive and always there to help they are approachable and hands on with the workers. Good place to build your career. Residents are great. Friendly environment.
