If you are looking to be overworked, underpaid, underappreciated and micromanaged by Executive then this is the place for you. The CEO switches direction of the company based on the newest book that she reads. Don't be fooled by thinking it is a company that empowers women, in fact it is quite the opposite. The free product and odd sponsorship are the smoke and mirrors they hide behind to pretend they care about the community. The CEO had to hire a man to try to get the company back on track and deal with all of the tough conversations and decisions she was afraid to. She hates conflict so she will say one thing to your face and then go and do whatever she wants anyways. Yes it is her company, but why hire people if you can't trust them to do their job. The pressure and expectations are unreal and the mental and emotional games they play get pretty tiring.

It is very sad that so many amazing young women think that the way they are treated and the expectations that are put on them are normal. They are not!  The pressure to be better or do better is a constant and the only one that benefits is the Executive. You shouldn't be asked to come back early from maternity leave or work while you are on maternity leave. You shouldn't be asked to sacrifice your family obligations or holiday time to sell more sparkle balls and you certainly shouldn't wonder each and every day if today is the day that you are going to get fired for no good reason.

You can get promoted from within but don't expect an increase in pay, just more work. If you are one of the chosen few who can do no wrong then you are lucky and you will love that you can come and go and do whatever you want not having to be accountable to anyone. But there are only a few that get granted this honor and it has more to do with how they look and smile and say yes then how hard they work.

If you think that you can come in and make a difference you will be sadly disappointed. There is only one person who matters at this place and trust me, it isn't you.

I spent nearly 2 years at Hillberg & Berk and was very disappointed when I decided to leave. This job gave me some amazing experience with sales, collaboration and people skills - but the management was something that could not be ignored. Over time, the job grew to be an extremely toxic work environment run by cliques, and the manager was in on it. There were constantly things being said about one another, from and to our boss. She was very pleasant to be around during your shift, but as soon as you left it seemed that she dropped her guard and spoke about others. The management at my location wasn't the only problem, it seemed that they all talked and dished on their employees; very unprofessional and played lots of favouristism. I was lied to multiple times about scheduling things and job opportunities that had been previously discussed with the manager of the location. It was very disappointing to have dedicated so much time to a company that I thought cared for and valued their workers when in reality they won't even give you a reference for future jobs. I had reached out to other management and HR to discuss the issues faced at my location and was met with doubt and hesitancy, nothing was done. On the bright side, all of this taught me how to handle myself in situations that are unprofessional and possibly an abuse of power.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ladies that I worked with and honestly they kept me there for as long as I did. Over the period of one summer, all 6 of us quit for the same reason (management of the store) and no investigation into the manager was done. If that doesn't tell you something, I'm not sure what will.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part about working at H&B is the people we work with. Knowing that we all work towards a common goal makes it so easy to collaborate and give / receive valuable feedback. I always feel supported and challenged in my role

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is ensuring that you've made the right decision. As a leader, its my responsibility to make difficult decisions for the needs of the business and my team. That being said, I am always supported in making decisions and my peers / leader do a great job of challenging me to ensure I've given it enough thought. Mistakes are normal and all you can do is learn from them.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment at H&B is extremely welcoming and inviting. We live the values through every decision we make and work towards success together. We create space for employees to shine at what they're good at and provide them opportunities for growth

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My day is spent mostly in the stores with my team! I spend my time being their cheerleader and give them coaching around how to better their business.

I worked at Hillberg & Berk for the Christmas seasons 2023–2024 and 2024–2025. A typical day involved supporting customers across email, live chat, social media and phone, processing online orders, coordinating with the Distribution Centre, and resolving warranty or shipping issues. The team was welcoming and collaborative — coworkers and supervisors were always willing to help, which made busy shifts manageable.

I learned to use tools like Gorgias with live chat, Shopify and  improved my time management and multitasking under pressure, and gained experience communicating clearly with customers and internal teams. Management was supportive and focused on training seasonal staff so we could deliver consistent service.

The workplace culture was customer-first and very team-oriented; there was a real emphasis on creating positive experiences for clients. The hardest part of the job was keeping up to date on the service disruptions  during peak holiday times, which required constant prioritization and quick troubleshooting. The most enjoyable part was hearing the stories behind purchases — when customers shared who they were buying for and why, it made the work meaningful and rewarding.

The first thing that struck me about Hillberg and Berk is the supportive, friendly and collaborative atmosphere that exists here. In my job orientation it was stressed how important being pleasant to each other is and it shows. The work life balance is amazing as I work part-time and predominantly from home. For some of our retail operations we have Client  Ambassadors who go to school and work part-time shifts which fits their needs. The management team is visionary and have implemented strategies that are paying dividends for the company and this success is shared with its employees. Plus there is  a variety of work opportunities that range from production, distribution. marketing, finance and retail. Additionally there is room for advancement as many of the leaders have risen through the ranks. Of course, at certain times of the year when customer demand is high  that the employees are  very busy but that is just a sign of a successful company.  I find that because it is a prairie based company which supports a variety of causes including women empowerment that there is a lot of prestige and pride associated with working here. 



Where many companies provide lip-service about empowering women, Hillberg & Berk delivers a truly female-driven workforce, facilitating empowerment among women employees, laterally and vertically throughout the organization, which results in a more fulfilling experience than a top-down strategy in order to check a box. My three years of experience have been full of constant inspiration from fellow colleagues, immense satisfaction from accomplishing challenging goals as a team, individual growth and development, and the knowledge that I am contributing to a larger objective. The social mission of the organization enlivens an already exciting business environment. Most importantly, leadership is committed to organizational learning, and continuous improvement - taking opportunities to receive feedback and improve. A great place to work if you are a highly-motivated, achievement oriented individual with a conviction toward using business for social impact. This is a challenging work environment for individuals who prefer consistency in strategy and operations, struggle with rapid change, or who prefer more individualized work environments. 


Hillberg & Berk is a business, not a magical world full of sparkle and empowerment.  If you and your position are not part of their business plan and the bigger picture you, as a person, don’t matter.  It was proven time and time again.  

With the departure of dozens of employees (including many managers) there are no doubt opportunities within the company.  That being said, Hillberg & Berk has tarnished their reputation.  As many others have stated, the pay and benefits are lacking, executive team changes their mind and restructures every 6 months, and have demonstrated that they only pay lip service to their message of empowering women.  This is nothing more than a marketing slogan.  Under the pressure to perform, leadership has eroded immensely.

If you are young, ambitious and all you want to do is work there are opportunities to learn about a multifaceted business.  However, do not have expectations of anything beyond gaining experience.

Through my time at Hillberg & Berk I met some amazing people. Everyone hired shares the same values and wants to work together to achieve the same goal. However, the upper management (regional) sometimes puts the company first over the wellbeing of their employees. They will not always address and help with concerns even if they promise to always listen. And if they do, they only listen to one side of the story. There are a lot of promises that are made but are never followed through with. The company does favour certain stores and if you are not their favourite, then good luck. Don’t get me wrong, not ALL of management is bad but they should work towards really getting to know the Client Ambassadors more and listening to their concerns. This is a good job for anyone who is in school and looking for a job to get by, but there is a lot  of training to go through at the beginning and throughout your time there. Overall I’m glad I worked here but I hope to see some improvement as even clients would share some negative feedback on management. 

I really enjoyed my experience working at Hillberg & Berk. Throughout my time with the company, I had the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. I developed a strong understanding of sales through working with KPIs, learning various selling tactics, and experiencing a new style of leadership that helped expand my perspective.

I felt genuinely supported by my direct manager, which made a big difference in my day-to-day experience. It was also great to have the opportunity to reach out to other locations with questions or for help—there was a strong sense of teamwork across the board. I appreciated the regular 1-on-1 meetings with management, where we could discuss performance updates or any concerns in a supportive and open environment.

What I valued most was how aligned I felt with the company’s mission and values. Hillberg & Berk has a meaningful brand purpose, and it was empowering to be part of a company that puts that at the forefront.

Overall, I’m grateful for my time at H&B and everything I learned along the way.

Hillberg & Berk is for individuals that are career focused, face paced, resilient and adaptable who also thrive in a fun environment. At Hillberg and Berk you really do get the chance to drive your own career. There are so many opportunities across the board and if you raise your hand and work hard you will be rewarded with incredible opportunities. 

It's really important that if you want to have a career at Hillberg and Berk that you are OK with constant change and a fast moving environment. At times this can feel busy, stressful or uneasy but this can also result in career growth opportunities that are invaluable. 

On top of all of the development we receive at H&B (courses, leadership, events) the company also provides us with exciting perks. The fitness partnerships are fantastic, I have a generous discount on their products, and have taken part in fun lunch activities such as yoga, and workshops. 

The culture is unlike anywhere I have ever worked, Hillberg & Berk is truly a group of people who want to uplift each other, and see each other succeed.
