Hills of Kerrisdale

I would not recommend working at Hills. The management and HR teams are extremely poor and cliquey, making it a difficult and frustrating place to work. Communication with HR is virtually non-existent – it’s incredibly hard to even schedule a meeting with them or receive any kind of response to your inquiries. This lack of communication trickles down into all aspects of the job, leaving employees feeling unsupported and disconnected.

The culture here is toxic and exclusionary. There's a clear sense of favoritism, with certain individuals or groups being given preferential treatment while others are ignored or sidelined. The work environment feels like a high school clique, and if you're not part of the "in" crowd, good luck getting ahead or even having your concerns addressed.

Booking time off is a nightmare, and when you do manage to get a request in, it's often denied or ignored. Breaks are scarce, and the culture encourages overworking with little regard for personal time or well-being. The lack of work-life balance is a huge issue – you're expected to be available at all times with little recognition or proper compensation for the extra hours put in.

Advancement opportunities are nearly non-existent. If you're hoping to move up within the company, you're in for a long wait, and even then, it's unclear what criteria are used to promote anyone. Overall, the lack of support, toxic environment, and poor management make Hills a very unpleasant place to work. I would advise looking elsewhere for employment.





The management here is absolutely useless. They are catty, unprofessional, constantly on their phones/ disappearing to the basement... Anytime you have a genuine concern, they console you, pretend that they will do something about it, but it will NEVER happen. They are super cheap, there is no room to grow- the pay was terrible, trying to get a raise was pulling teeth. They only give you the time of day if you are well-dressed, or somewhat attractive. If you have none of these qualities, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Managers are on constant "vacation"- the training process takes months. I have witnessed coworkers getting eaten alive by other staff & customers. Do not waste your time. 

The work culture in this space is super unfair and bias. Very cliquey which makes it hard to build trust within the team, The upper management is not very keen on creating a space to develop team members; making false promises,

They have put people in “leader” positions, who have poor communication skills and no leadership skills to lead a team. They have people who have been there for years but hate working there, thus creating a very toxic and draining space to work in.

Very unfair job security as well.

I worked here for 3 years as a sales person and was often on their monthly list of top sales people and the only time my pay was raised was when minimum wage went up. They offer no benefits, raises or incentives to make staff feel valued.
 HR is highly incompetent, they don't respond to emails, ignore requests for time off and have no strategy for solving conflicts. 
The only thing I learned at this company was what poor management looks like. 

Working here was tough. A lot of the management is stuck in this old way of thinking and running things like there are all the head of the school. I attended a fashion school and did not receive any opportunities for growth and was paid $17 for work that was below my skill levels. I would NEVER recommend someone to work here, they treat you like you’re in high school. 

Hills of Kerrisdale is a great place to work if you know a bunch about fashionable brands that are trending in the world today. If you don't come from that world, the learning curve to understand what separates which item from which can be tedious to some to remember. Management in a store like this can be intimidating but overall seemed peaceful enough to help new employees.

The managers were extremely nice and caring. The hours were never harsh and whenever an emergency arises all help out. The managers were understanding with any potential change in the schedule and promoted effective communication.

Great staff that make the job even more enjoyable. A great community to work in in Vancouver. They make you feel like you are so much more than just a face in the company and you actually matter.

Working at Hill's was quite the experience, it was my first time working in retail. I learned a lot about store displays and how to best display product. Working for them had lots of perks that I sure miss today.

Hills is a bad place to work if you like to be treated well. The HO is cliquey and if you do not fit in with them then there is no chance of advancement.
