Managers are responsible for every aspect of very large independent living retirement communities. In addition to typical managerial roles live-in managers have an abundance of additional roles as well these include:
* being on call constantly
* Being completely responsible for after-hours emergency response calls of a medical nature
* Extreme pressure is placed upon managers to accomplish stringent  marketing tasks daily
* Pouring coffee and tea during every meal 

Some of the things I would like to point out to people considering a managerial position as a live-in manager are:
* You never get a long weekend. The only way to get an extra day off is to trade with your co-manager couple and then you end up working extra to pay it back
* Your evenings are not your own. When you are on call you can not leave the community
* You LIVE where you work

I absolutely LOVED my job as live-in Manager at an independent living retirement community because I LOVED the people. The majority of the work was enjoyable however the company I worked for had absolutely no sense of balance and unfortunately the focus for upper management had shifted from providing the best independent retirement experience possible to making as much money from each resident as possible. The communities themselves are declining because they do not receive the financial input necessary to make them the elegant environments they were intended to be and the managers are held accountable to keep them at a high standard without the financial input they need. The pay scale allotted for Enrichment Coordinators, Executive Chefs and Maintenance personnel do not allow you to hire top quality individuals or when you do, they quickly move on to situations that are willing to pay them what they are worth. 

Before you begin as live-in managers for an independent living retirement community you need to ask yourself a couple of questions. Are you willing to let your job be your life? And are you willing to let your job be your life for what you will be paid?

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY! They WILL work you to death with poor pay. They DO NOT care for the employees or the residents. All about the $. Major disconnect from executive's and the people who make it happen on the ground floor in the community. They hire under qualified mangers to take advantage of them. They say they are a great place to work... hardly close.... they talk out of both sides of their mouths. Backstabbing and will drop you in a heartbeat. They try to get every last penny from seniors and do not provide services promised. The food they feed the seniors is horrible, cheapest product they can find...     

The job was resident manager,  turns out to be a high phone marketing job with little property management aspect to the job.  A promise of caring for your residents with the Holiday Touch. After you sign up a resident and  they move in they care little about the clients and more about keeping the place full and the bottom line.  Back stabbing staff both in middle management above you and the staff the work for you. High turnover of manages. The property I managed had has 16 different manages in two years. That should speak volumes.

Early morning start at 6:30 am
Eat breakfast with residents then manage building by:
Dealing with employees and residents non stop.
Cold calling and produced lists to market building.
Visiting potential clients in their home making transition easier.
Constantly touring potential residents.
Making sure building is up to code and clean.
Handling payroll, vacations etc. for employees as needed
Keeping residents entertained, secure and healthy.

Manage in a community environment ensuring that company policies are adhered to. Learning the ropes of Community management. Ensuring that residents had opportunities to engage in activities and reside in a comfortable invigorating environment. Enjoyable - living in a situation where you can relate to residents as extended family.

made fruit plates for day, sandwich of the day, dessert carts, served on line with Chef- helped with clean up-pots and pans. Made main  dessert for following day. Did any prep for following day for Chef. Made soup of the day. Learned food preparation, presentation and quality. Kitchen staff was a great team- we made work fun

hardest part is the routine aspect, every day and shift is the same 
most enjoyable part is the residence and getting to know the different individuals

It’s a very good company to work for, I learned a lot from working at Holiday Retirement, they invest in their employees not many companies have a system that is structured to you succeeding  
I would definitely work for them tomorrow or would recommend anyone to work with them

This is a great place to work. Plenty of support from upper management.  Great teamwork. Excellent pay and benefits. Fun and welcoming for clients and staff.

Company was 5-Star  in all areas when I joined the company. When company was sold...it became less and less about the Resident and more and more about the bottom-line.
