If you're a student looking for flexible hours, or a foot in the door to your field, this is a good job. Since they're commonly understaffed, they will generally hire unqualified people. Within the company, there's much room for advancement (because of high turnover), but many people stay away from moving up because of the tedious workload with very little pay increase. 
Forwarning, this job won't train you on site. It's extremely minimal and for the most part, they'll use their employees as bodies until they burnout. To avoid this, you need to beg supervisors to be scheduled with full-time staff who have the patience to train someone. Generally, management would rather blame and dismiss staff who have suggestions or complaints. Additionally, your hours/pay will often be fumbled, getting in touch with company payroll is extremely difficult.
This is a good job if you want extra work, but because of the culture within the company very little full-time staff stay over two years. I would recommend this company for someone's practicum, but no as long-term career.

I worked there a while ago in accounting team but right after two weeks I noticed something is not going normal with accounting department. Very soon I saw the accounting management team don't respect their employees so you will get blamed for nothing in their weekly meetings (absolutely nothing) even though your work is updated and going smoothly. During of one year of my working with hollyburn I saw several accounting members resigned of their job and the main reason was director of finance attitude who had the poorest communication skills I'd ever seen before. No matter how much you work hard b/c at the end you'll be ignored, disrespected and degraded, so better to leave there just for taking off too much pressure of your shoulders.... Trust me nobody even cares about what is going on in accounting Dep.!!!

I feel compelled to share my grievances to ensure others are aware of the potential consequences of joining this organization. When confronted with an incident that jeopardized my health and safety, I expected my employer to take immediate action and provide the necessary support. However, my expectations were shattered when nobody bothered to acknowledge the severity of the situation or inquire about my well-being. It was disheartening to realize that the company's negligence extended beyond just me but also to anyone who might find themselves in a similar predicament. I regret my decision to work for this company, as their lack of support and care for employees is wholly unacceptable

Love this agency they have been amazing and I am so fortunate to be apart of this dedicated  culture! The Special Needs Department is so committed and would do anything to ensure the youth and adults needs are met. It’s a very dedicated team and the growth over the 27 years has been outstanding. I have read some of the complaints and that saddens me that some may have not had a positive experience but they have been here for almost 30 years so that does speak volumes. 
I urge anyone to get what is needed to get complete because we always welcome dedicated hard working people and have seen tremendous growth and opportunities for these individuals.

A company in the midst of rapid growth brings employee advantages and challenges.
Hollyburn has the making and vision to be an excellent organisation. However dramatic growth in recent years and a skilled labour shortage has lead to some growing pains.
Hollyburn offers a fair benefits package, a market average (all be it low) wage, room to move up the organisation and career advancement.
With this unfortunately comes high demands and responsibility, an impossible case load, constant staff turn over on the front line and frequent changes in managment.
This is one of the most challenging and in turn rewarding companies in the area.

Learning and development. You get to be trained on the job. Sometimes, weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis with relevant accredited certifications.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
All jobs are stressful. When you have a passion for what you do. You don’t see them as stressful but as commitment and dedication for the job. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work life balance. Good friendly work environment. Managers, supervisors, and staff operate an open door policy. You will learn. However, you have to show commitment and dedication.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Good. Just have to be very observant and committed to your job. It’s a good place to work.

Hollyburn Family Services is a family agency located in North Vancouver, BC servicing North Shore families from Deep Cove up to Lions Bay and Bowen Island.  It has a myriad of services from Family Preservation to Family Support as well as Victim Services Support, Youth Safe House, Individual Clinical Counselling and many other non-for profit services for youth.  As a Clinical Counsellor who worked for this company for over a decade I can speak to the supportive team atmosphere, and has a close connection to the community.  I would recommend that the salaries need to be increased as well as benefits need to be improved upon along with vacation time.  You don't work for a Family Agency for the money or benefits you do it for the love of the job.

I have worked for Hollyburn services for a number of years now. Started as a practicum student and was hired shortly afterwards. The work is challenging and not for everyone, working with some of the most challenging children and youth. The teams are supportive, supervisors are approachable and management works hard to support. 

I find that commited and hard working people are given opportunities to grow. Lots of opportunity for in house and external training. 

There have definitely been hard times and difficult situations but I think staying commitment helps.

Friendly, supportive, professional, trusty, flexible. I had a good team.

I had a rough schedule, the new client mismatched with space arrangements for specific needs.

friendly, supportive, and flexible withing my team.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
shift transfers, shift conduction, and trouble-solving procedures were smooth and in a positive manner most of the time. Management and peers were mindful, trustful, and open-minded. Most coworkers were flexible with duties and kept positive attitudes toward clients and each other.

I was hired as an accounting assistant but they put me in AP position! because the AP guy left once I stepped in so they ask me to cover her job immediately and I stayed in that position 1.5 year until I quit. Hollyburn and specially accounting department is not a good place to stay long and many people hired and decide to leave after few month. Attitude is the worst part with accounting management. Another issue with accounting is too many meetings per month which are held only to blame you  even what you did was right!!! I JUST SAY NO TO WORK WITH HOLLYBURN!! DON"T GO THER TO FOR ACCOUNTING JOB EVEN IF YOU'VE BEEN ALREADY ACCEPTED AND HIRED.!!! Trust me, there is lots of opportunities out there!!
