You will not be appreciated or respected as an employee you are simply there to cover for the actual employees and point out what’s not working.  I was trained by someone not even familiar with the shift.  I was warned about this from Day 1 with training that they can’t keep casuals around. You get 1 day of training and 1 day of supervision to see how much you’ve learned they will then move you to a different shift and so on and so forth and by the time you get back to the original shift you may not remembered how to do that shift. There is tons of gossip and rumour spreading issues with a clique, if you bring it up you are “ quiet fired” they just don’t give you anymore shifts. The residents are awesome although also frustrated with management and high staff turn over which is hard for them emotionally. Not a bad job if you can keep your head down and turn a blind eye. The number 1 skill requirement is to work with a bunch of women of various ages from 20-65 and get a long. You’ll be lucky to get 7 out of 14 days. 

The residents are the best part of working here. They make showing up to work everyday worth it. However, management as a whole, not directly at the lodge but the hirer ups act like they care but they don’t. They give you the bare minimum hours, which results in not great paycheques, definitely not something you can live off of even as a head department head. Even with working set hours and days, your pay cheques are never the same.  Just because it’s over minimum wage, doesn’t mean you make good money, you’ll be maybe bring home $900 every 2 weeks. Head departments don’t receive much more. Coworkers have always been great, some drama but nothing out of the ordinary for a workplace. The residents see the problems that go on but you have to put on a happy persona and nod and wave. Company always says they have no money in the budget but it doesn’t add up. If you are a single income, a position here will not get you by. Absolutely heartbreaking to leave the residents because they become so special to you. It’s the guilt that will keep you there. 

Staff are very aggressive towards each other and residents. Several times a day the staff will call residents with dementia idoiots. Management will sometimes schedule for shifts without asking and there is two different places to check the schedule and both are unreliable, so I never knew which shifts were correct, but if I got it wrong and would talk to management, they would act like I was being mean to them? Full time staff have cliques and if you don't fit into the cliques, you get glared at during break or get name called like you're in elementary school. Definitely would not recommend working here, unless you like bully resdients in their home.

Management was almost never able to get a hold of, but if they couldn't get a hold of you, they wouldn't ever let you forget about for months! Staff was very politicized, and it seemed like none of staff wanted to be there, and it shows in how they will treat the seniors. Working conditions got worse and worse, all the while management and other staff would harrass and name call each other. 

Would not recommend to work here unless there's nothing else.

I was disgusted at the unprofessionalism of the management. The residents would tell me of abusive behavior the staff would do to them. The management have talked about removing an emergency call bell from a resident's room with dementia because "it's annoying when she accidentally pulls it". Please don't work here if you care about doing good work. Very unfair.

Bullying 

Management messes up and will throw you under the bus to save themselves. 

Non profit organization, low wage, unrealistic work load. 

Great working with residents and tenants

As a casual you never really have the same shift there's like 50 shifts to train on and if you don't know exactly what your doing people treat you horrible

What is the best part of working at the company?
The work load and to enjoy the conversations with the seniors, they keep me company on my shift. Bosses are very understanding 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The 11 to 7 shift nights. It isn't stressful but if not enough sleep can be bad

I have worked at a site for almost two years.  Management is responsive and fair.  They expect your to do your job and have high standards.  If you enjoy working with seniors and doing a great job, then this is the place for you.
