What is the best part of working at the company?
My time at Homeward Trust has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Over the past six months, I have had the opportunity to be part of a team that tackles challenging issues, specifically assisting individuals and families who are currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Although the topics we deal with can be difficult, there is a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment in knowing that our work is making a real difference in people's lives.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
One of the biggest challenges of working in this field is managing the emotional toll it can take. The intensity of the work often leads to stress and emotional exhaustion, making it hard to maintain a healthy work-life balance. 

When you're passionate about your job, it's easy to let it consume your personal life, risking burnout and neglect of self-care. Establishing boundaries and prioritizing well-being are crucial for sustaining both passion and health in such a demanding environment.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture are predominantly supportive, fostering collaboration and teamwork among employees. There is ample opportunity for socializing, which helps build relationships and camaraderie within the team, and the role offers a degree of flexibility that many appreciate. However, despite these positive aspects, there is an overarching sense of stress that permeates the workplace. Employees often feel the weight of high expectations and deadlines, which can create a tense atmosphere. This pressure arises from various sources, including demanding projects and external requirements, making it challenging for team members to maintain a balance between their responsibilities and well-being.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The workload varied significantly from day to day. Some days involved working on different projects, while other days had only one task to focus on. More often than not, multitasking was necessary to ensure that nothing was overlooked, especially in the communications department.

In my experience at Find, I observed a shift in the company’s focus, which seemed to impact employee morale. Staff members, including myself, often felt overworked, underappreciated, and struggled with inconsistent schedules. The workload increased as the company aimed to meet daily budget goals, which made it harder to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The team was often short-staffed, and the reduction in part-time employee hours due to budget cuts contributed to burnout.

I also personally felt that policies designed to protect employees were not applied consistently, which left me feeling unsupported. Additionally, the frequent introduction of new policies created confusion and added to the overall stress in the workplace. There was also sometimes an imbalance in how individuals were treated, which contributed to a sense of unfairness and division among staff. This affected team dynamics and made it more difficult to maintain a positive work environment.

In terms of the physical environment, I found that the building would get extremely hot during the warmer months, often exceeding 30°C, which made it uncomfortable to work in. The lack of air conditioning contributed to this issue, creating a challenging and unsafe environment at times. Some areas of the building had uneven floors, which made moving furniture difficult and posed a tripping hazard for both staff and customers. There was also inconsistent operating hours (closures due to weather or events) that created challenges for those of us relying on public transportation to plan effectively.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I love being part of of this organization. The people we serve, the people I get to work with and for are all wonderful.  I love the emphasis on innovation and being able to pivot as priorities change.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with those who have suffered and been subjected to traumatic life events. It hits hard and can make for difficult but rewarding days.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Amazing. So many talented and empathetic people all working hard to end homelessness.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It's always busy with lots to do.  We have a great work plan that will have a positive impact in 2024 and beyond. Very exciting to be part of it.

Poor accounting - expense cheques either wrong, late or not at all. Employees expected to ring up personal credit cards to purchase building supplies.
Managers are not proactive. The buildings require more work than the organization is willing to deal with. Happy tenants are rare. Quality of life for the tenants is poor, at best. Building security is lacking. Criminal activity is common in the multi unit buildings.
Maintaining public image is the organization's priority.
It keeps funding money rolling in. It's a shame that the dollars rarely end up where they are truely needed.

Amazing support, great work/home balance, financially fair and very competitive

It isn’t stressful because there are so many supports in place to minimise stress and work loads

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Supportive, inclusive and positive 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It’s busy but productive with new challenges and opportunities to continue growing and learning. I am eager to go to my job because of how fulfilling it is.

The atmosphere was calm and team work was the best asset of the company. Most days we started of with assessing participants if they are eligible for the housing program, we used an assessment tool called the SPDAT, which classified participant as a priority to less priority. A team meeting will be held every Friday to hand over eligible participants to housing workers a nd they would start the housing process based on our assessment and participants needs.

The management does not care about workers' concerns. Often if there is any sort of unhappiness management will use the excuse of the good 'we' are doing for the community to deflect issues. Was a very stressful environment because it seemed like anyone could be unexpectedly fired at anytime. There also was an especially high turnover in departmental supervisors  which led to constant chaos and disorganization.

Great staff at homeward trust. They're very concerned with getting people housed and sustainable housing that's lasting. We are Bridging people, working together with many other non-profit agencies. Including new and smaller non profit organizations as well. We assist with other outside referrals. Helping people who have various types of needs. 

The complete management needs to be replaced for people who really care about the company and their employees. They don't know anything about team work,  organization time management and.

When you start they talk about all the positive work they do for the community but when you work it's like junior high. There is nepotism, favoritism and backstabbing. Very disappointing employee experience.
