The owner prioritizes personal relationships over sound business decisions and retains managers long-term despite clear performance issues. There have been repeated instances of inappropriate workplace behavior, including sexist remarks and political discussions during work hours. One manager frequently displays unprofessional conduct, spreads rumours of staff being pe**ophiles, struggles with basic physical tasks, consistently places incorrect orders, forgets everything, makes comments about other managers, staff and customers and is unable to manage multiple priorities. 

Management provides little to no operational support. Staff are expected to handle all store deliveries, product dating, and shelf stocking independently, while management spends entire shifts on minimal tasks such as making a few tags or adjusting a single shelf. The owner has normalized this lack of involvement.

Managers regularly disengage, spending time on their phones rather than assisting staff, even during peak periods such as Christmas Eve or when staff call in. Overall, staff should not expect reliable leadership or support, as management is consistently unstable and ineffective.

Working here has given me a lot of confidence and has pushed me out of my comfort zone. But lately I have felt as though my department doesn’t get treated that well by others, especially when we have to constantly clean up after other departments. as well as doing tasks out side of our job description. It would be wonderful if every department pulled their own weight so it could be easier for my department to are jobs safely. To add on management should act professional but I feel as though gossiping about employees isn’t very professional if you are management you should act professional because you get paid to do so. I have had personal issues with management saying not kind things about me behind my back, instead of to my face. Management should be able to speak to me directly if they have any problems with me not to other’s employees. 

Lots of ups and downs. Lots to learn and lots of life skills you can learn. Perfect first job, product and local information plus learning people skills these are very valuable skills they give you, but definitely not meant as a long term job. They do have lots of drama within the workplace, staying away from it is a must to succeed. Management can be very helpful but can be unprofessional at times. They are very caring but sometimes lack sense of direction and training/retraining from month to month can be inconsistent. They expect employees to train other employees who have lacked training to begin with which can be difficult. If you’re a go getter kind of person I highly recommend but if you’re someone who wants sense of direction I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

I don’t think I’d recommend Hopcott for someone who hasn’t had a job before because here you need to be loud and use your voice to be able to get what you want, and i’ve noticed it has been difficult for some people. The staff could be friendlier, sometimes i feel like they look at me like i’m crazy. There needs to be a big sign on Senior Mondays. 
since you can get the discount if you have a loyalty app or not , you should be able to get the discount, and I feel like people are missing out on that because there’s no way to know unless someone mentions it to you. I also feel that the staff, definitely the people higher up, they tend to favourite certain people and to others it feels like we’re almost completely ignored. which I completely understand if someone has been working there for years it makes sense to have favourite people, but newer people that are there you should make them feel more welcomed. 

A typical day at work requires you to mainly help customers, work on production and keeping the area clean and the shelves stocked.

I've learned how to manage my time better and how to interact with the public in a more professional way.

The management are very friendly and hardworking but at times have a lack of communication with each other and their employees.

This company is positive, fast paced environment that is clear on selling high quality, local products.

The hardest part of the job would be making sure you do everything you're superior has asked of you fast and efficiently on a daily basis while also making sure every customer is leaving happy and satisfied with their experience and their purchases.

The most enjoyable part of the job would be feeling accomplished at the end of the day and being surrounded by friendly, upbeat people.

A normal day at Hopcotts is very predictable, they do things a certain way and it works well. The department I work you know what big jobs needs to be done the day you go in because it has always been done that day. Getting to work with so many different personalities has helped define mine, and it shows just how diverse the culture at this job is - and welcoming. Management needs to communicate way better than they do. This job can be hard when you have to move the heavier things, but there is always someone there that wants to help you. The most enjoyable part of any job is the feeling in my department - we are like a big family and treat each other as such.

While there is routine and "typical" days, there are changing and moving parts to this business that offer excitement and opportunity to the employees on a weekly, if not daily, basis 
Staff culture overall is great, with open minded and welcoming folks throughout the company. During breaks most staff overlap in the lunchroom and are interacting and having great inclusive conversations. 

Overall it was a good job for me, and it taught me a lot of useful skills. However, I didn't get the amount of training needed for my role, and I had some communication issues with management. It is overall a well run place and a good job for a beginner. Most staff were very supportive and welcoming. At times it can be a fast paced environment, and at others it is very slow which provided a lot of different learning opportunities. 

i love the ability to serve high quality meat. I am proud that we support local businesses.
Each day is different and everyday i learn something new.
I would like it if we could offer a "freezer pack" to suit single serving options
The cranberry tour this year was stunning and informative


Great job & great company to work for . Management are supporting and the pay is good but should increase with inflation.
