- Typical day at work is showing up, and sitting in one position for about 10-12 hours, depending on where you work. Breaks are extremely minimal with water arriving at your location at anytime of the day (4 hours past shift start time is the sweet spot).
-the learning experience at horseshoe is noneexistent. They require you to do the work, and not know why, or try to improve upon making situations easy for themselves you, or the customer.
-I dont even know who management really is there. You have about 12 different people claiming to be the head of one department coming through and never praising you for your good work, but always critisizing you for what youve done wrong, or could be doing better.
-Co-workers are for the most part, just a bunch of teenagers with legal, drinking, and drug problems. They are the easiest to sign up for this job, but the hardest to rely on.
-The hardest part of my job is having to abandon your designated post for some mundane task that management couldnt have managed on their own, or have picked someone else with a more laidback job that doesnt require constant attention.
-The perks that Horseshoe offers you, such as free attractions in the park, free ski lift passes, free golfing, a discount on food and merchandise

Poor upper management has led horseshoe to go downhill over the past 5 years, toxic work culture but good peers.
Dumb decisions are made, most of the directors/management (not all, there are some nice ones) come in for a few hours usually seen drinking at the crazy horse while they watch everything, and complain that frontline staff are not "busy" enough which causes people from different departments to be doing the work of other departments when it is not busy, leading to poor customer service, and lower morale.

Because of this disconnect between the people actually doing work, and the decision making from management the customer and working experience has gone downhill.

Raises are not given(some supervisors got a 50 cent raise), Breaks are very strict, and the working environment is bad, so there is a high turnover. I have never seen a thank you or "you did a good job" from anyone to anyone.

It surprises me that horseshoe has not run into any constructive dismissal lawsuits over the past few years, or that skyline has not purged upper management.

Rooms were a total pain to clean. The only incentive is getting tips, however the front desk or other staff that went in and stripped your beds before you would rob you of any tips. Once this happened, you'd lose all motivation and just drag your feet all day since it was totally unfair. If you do housekeeping here, my suggestion is to get your room list in the morning and then check all your vacant rooms right away to get any tips that were left.

Oh and forget about advancing here. It's well known that every year they let everyone go and start with a fresh group of employees next year. Not just housekeepers either. Everyone. Managers and all.

And its minimum wage and parttime hours.

Great place to work , great people. Very low pay for what you do.  Sometimes hard to get time to take your break depending on staffing levels and your manager and depending on what role you have.

Nice perks though you get an employee discount and if availability allows for it you can use the facilities free of charge which is an amazing perk.

For people on the front line though there seems to be no recognition from the company that Barrie is one of the most expensive cities to live in in Canada as the pay is very close to minimum wage.



As a fully graduated from post secondary adult I can confidently say this company and my specific role is a great starter job for high school students. 

Unless you get lucky to find a full time permanent role in the company close to no growth is available. The only growth in my department is team lead which now makes only cents above the non lead positions. 

Since the old director of recreation has left management feels much more relaxed and friendly. 

start at 9-930, crew meeting, get cart organized, clean stays, clean the checkouts, put cart a away, help others who are not finished yet.
I have learned a good hard work ethic, teamwork and organization. All my co-workers are fun-loving and all hard workers, we can all rely on each other for help. The hardest part of housekeeping would be having to clean 20 rooms by check in time(4pm) It would get stressful at times. Most enjoyable part would be working with my co workers & dealing with customers.

The front desk manager was very rude from day one, assuming people are "unfit" for the job ( even when I proved her wrong) Very disorganized with shift and always blamed me for leaving early when I finished my work early and she had nothing else to give me. I voiced my concerns but that didn't seem to be enough. Other staff were great but management was defiantly lacking.

Great people, but this company does not recognize top employees the best employees at Horseshoe are always taken advantage of and taken for granted.  There is no retirement plan in place here and you can work with this company for 25, 30 years and when you are retirement age you have nothing to show for your dedication.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best place to work, management is Awesome!! the staff is absolutely amazing, I absolutely loved my time there. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
sometimes the front desk gets flooded but if theres a certain amount of check ins you wont be alone. and management and coworkers are super supportive

Started working 8-4 that lasted for a few weeks then it was 7-4 
The expect a lot fir little pay
Don’t pay overtime or banked time
Some days were 7-11pm so very long days when you had to do your regular job 7-4 then be Duty Manager until 11 pm
