Hotel Zed

a typical day at work for me means getting here at 11pm. i close the hot tub, reset the living room, and do computer work. then i am able to relax and keep an eye on things here, watching for security issues and being available as needed. i vacuum and mop as well. the management here is amazing. so free to joke with, and also serious about doing their jobs, and always in a fun way. super accommodating to their staff. the hardest part of the night audit for me is working alone, but that’s also the best part of the job! it is hard to wake up so late to come to work too. but i feel appreciated in what i give, and i feel that being given back to me as well! the workplace culture is incredible. you are told to have fun, be yourself, make things better, and have each others backs. the management plan days out for us, from surfing, to paddle boarding to a boat trip to a floating spa day and sea kayaking! we also have the most fab staff parties a couple times a year. they encourage us to be a family with one another. there is a disco, ping pong, playground, hot tub and sauna, all free for staff use! they have a staff kitchen, filled with great things to cook with. there is a staff lounge room with a TV, projector, couches, etc. they also truly care about what you are going thru, and are ready and willing to help you deal with life. whether this be about medical, emotional, or psychological wellbeing. i’ve personally benefitted from these programs! what i’ve learned here is having a job doesn’t mean you have to dread your life every day. you can have a job, and love going to work! i’ve never experienced this before and it’s life changing. 

Found the wages very low, most jobs other than management are minimum wage and they keep them low. No room for advancement that I could see. No weekends off. Staff can't take time off from May to September. So no summer vacation. If you make into management, you'll get weekends off and summer vacation but not  the staff. You may be required to work when sick, rather than having  the manager or assistant manager fill the shift. Noticed the management like to lord over the staff. The management are young and change often. Its not at all the fun place they make it out to be. The vintage Vans break down almost daily. The bonuses are $20.00 gift cards for the mall across the road, their not every month only sometimes. I found it much like fast food culture. Very high staff turnover. Their more management first than about the employee. You may have to deal with the police while working their, they attend the site often. I've heard safety concern from female staff. Might be a good first job for somebody young and just out of school. They try and sound like a small family business but they also own Accent Inns chain and farmer construction. If your required to have a class 4 licence, they pay at the low end of the pay scale for commercial drivers.

Zed was the best place i have worked, pay was an open subject, we had semi-monthly staff meetings to discuss any issues at all, Benefits we’re great, and the secret bonuses that you don’t know about until you’re working there made the business a very friendly and comfortable environment. There’s so many good things to say about Hotel Zed, I would have never left if it wasn’t for personal circumstances outside of the job. Elyse the current manager will do as much in her power to make you a happy worker and that ranges from all sorts of things. Scheduling is pretty flexible as well with many different shifts and positions in the building i was able to switch around from one part of the hotel to another when i wanted a change, this was happily accepted by the managers and provided me with the ability to learn many new tasks. I would gladly return to Zed in a heartbeat, if you are thinking of working here, DO IT!  1000/10 

The company, management, and co-workers are amazing. I have worked here for about a year, summer and winter and this company is fantastic. I have felt valued, recognized and compensated for everything that I do throughout my duration of working here. The benefits are amazing, the work environment is welcoming, pleasant and I truly feel excited to go to work every day, I'll even come to visit on my days off!

The Company's focus is centred around employees' happiness, they create events that encourage making friends, they allow us to genuinely be ourselves and dress to our own tastes, and support us by encouraging work-life balances and don't make us feel bad for taking a day off when needed. I've never experienced a company that puts so much pride and focus on its employees' experience before. 

I'm definitely planning on coming back to be a part of this team again...

I LOVE working at Hotel Zed. We have an amazing team with support from all angles and all departments, from the house person to the CEO. No matter the job title, everyone has a positive attitude and will jump in to help when you need a hand. It really is ridiculously fun here. We are spoiled with treat days every week, and if we have ideas for outings, celebrations, or events, the managers are always ready to arrange something for the team! The company is invested in our learning and growth at all levels as well, which is very important to me. I really do feel valued for my contributions, and am given space to make mistakes as well (as well all do when learning).

I've worked at Hotel Zed for over a year now, in multiple positions of multiple departments. There has never been a second since I've arrived where work has actually felt like work. It's such a light hearted atmosphere and it's the most fun, stress-free job I've ever had. The management is incredible and always support my growth. They feel more like friends than they do bosses. All of the staff are equally awesome. We have tons of staff events and it feels like a grown up summercamp. It's the first time in my life I've found a company that truly lives up to their values. 100000/10 I drank the koolaid and I think I might retire here one day.

I started at Accent Inns, the sister hotel..I thought to pick up a few graveyard shifts at the hotel zed. It was the best decision..I love and enjoyed working at this funky fun hotel. During slow season in the wintertime at front desk you always finding yourself busy and distracted. Either watching people go by through the glass window or dealing with fun crazy  party no- guests or guests. Extra entertainment.  Working on a project. You are always going to find something to do and keep yourself busy.  Your shifts goes by so fast. Everyone is easy to work with.

High turnover and poor organization. This company might be a good place to work in a few years, but definitely has a long way to go. New leadership may help. The company does not actually operate in alignment with the company values. Looks nice on the outside, but the image they want to project isn’t reality for the employees. I hope they figure it out one day because there are some good people working at the Tofino location. I don’t see a future with this company.

Worked here. Made minimum wage for a pretty physically demanding job which is whatever. Benefits don’t kick in for a long time then it gets slow and you’re bumped to part time so don’t qualify anyway. The best manager left. Now it is run by managers who aren’t even from here that fired everyone for “not being able to accommodate to their schedule” even though you give them 3 plus days a week. Now they are more of a disaster than ever and have no staff left. 

You never know what to expect working at the Hotel Zed, everyday brings in a new and fun challenges. Employees not only have great benefits but are well surrounded by amazing team leaders who empower them to go the extra mile not only for the guests but as individuals. This instantly creates a harmonious and respectful environment and motivates everyone to work collectively towards providing the best service possible.
