All of the following is solely on the paint and prep department as I cannot speak for other departments.

The shift is very consistent starting at 7 am and ending at 3:30 pm. The work-life balance is good because they do not force overtime on any employees but when orders are plentiful they will give you the option to work overtime if you would like, although OT is not always available. Working Saturdays is optional as well. OT starts after 44h. You get a raise at the 3-month mark, 6-month mark, 1-year mark, and a raise every year after. Base pay is ok in the prep department. I started at $18.50/h

Do not expect to learn any transferrable skills here, at least in my department. (Paint Prep) Almost everything you do here is only applicable to your job and nowhere else.

Management in my department is very bad. To start, it is HEAVILY micro-managed. The lead hand and team lead will constantly be over your shoulder and in your ear when things aren't done EXACTLY the way they want it. If things are done even slightly differently you will be gifted an earful, and sometimes even cursed at. If a boat gets finished slightly off schedule they will rant about how you are not up to par and how you were too slow. (Sometimes things take longer as some boats are worse to do than others.) Secondly, there is pretty heavy favoritism here. There are times when management will give special treatment to others simply because they like them more. For example, I'm on a boat with 2 others, and the team lead takes a person off to talk about their upcoming event for 20 minutes, while the other guy and I continue to take on the other person's work. Management will instigate and be open to arguing with employees rather than solving disputes. Management will be very condescending if you even attempt to ask questions if you don't know something. Be prepared to know everything guys and gals. Another thing is the little to no safety training. You are around countless dangerous cancer-causing chemicals and to this day I have not been informed by management about the effects that these chemicals can have on you. I was informed by another employee that the chemical I was using caused cancer. The one good thing about management is that they are very understanding of sick days and emergencies. If you need to call in they will not hassle you about that, as long as it is not abused.

Workplace culture is quite possibly the worst I have ever been a part of. People here are constantly stressed due to unrealistic standards for production, causing everyone to be grumpy all the time. I have witnessed people curse at, and threaten others and face no repercussions. Although, there are some quite nice people as well. Another thing to note is that there is a NO-TALK POLICY. I mean you cannot even speak unless it is necessary. There are points in the process of finishing a boat that does not require much focus because they are so easy and mundane. GOD FORBID you talk during one of these points in the process. Don't crack a joke, ask a question, talk about the weather, whatever. The lead hand will come up to you and no joke just tell you to shut up and work. But just ignore when managers stand around and joke with each other, this doesn't apply to them. Another thing is that you don't have job security if management doesn't like you. When times get slow they will lay off tons of people. So to avoid this you have to kiss up to them, or you're gone.

The hardest part of this job is the toll it takes on your body and health. There is a lot of repetitive motion involved which can destroy your body over time. Although not the most grueling work, and can get very exhausting over time. Coupled with the manager's shut-up and work mentality, it can be very draining. There are also tons of terrible chemicals you must work with, as well as dust everywhere. If you value your health do not work here. It does not matter how hard you work, you will not advance in the company, period.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the consistent schedule and good work-life balance. They also give you a 2-week paid break during the holidays.

I spent less than one day working at Hudson wish I could tell you why, I enjoyed the short time I was working there. While I was there they offered minimal training when it came to using tools like the air-powered wire brush gun.  That unfortunately was where I seemed to have an issue, I thought I was doing perfectly fine no one was saying I was doing my job incorrectly. However to my surprise I was, with no explanation whatsoever I get pulled aside and told it’s not going to work out because I can’t use the wire brush to their liking ( it’s my first day and first time ever using a wire brush ). So if possible I would give this place 0 stars for training new employees. So even if their applications say entry level expect to use many different air powered tools and riskier equipment. You will get fired if you don’t know how to use their machines they won’t even try to give you a chance. I was given a 10 second demo on my first day which has to be a joke. The team lead was always on the other side of the shop and was never there to guide and or help, the only time the team lead talked to me was to fire me. What a joke.  

A good crew of people work at Hudson.  Hudson has great day time hours and great benefits for you and your family.  The training is hands on and teaches you about how to work with carbon fibre.
