You will never advance in this position. Pay is low and not enough to sustain even a basic quality of life. The work environment is stressful, staff teams are clique-y, and obtaining permanent employment is difficult unless you befriend your managers. You can work a 12-hour shift, and still be mandated to stay if someone calls in. This happened almost every weekend during my employment with the agency. At one point, my coworker was on the way home when management called and informed them they had to return to work as night-staff called in sick and they were told if they didn't, there would be consequences. When you are in a temporary contract, it can end at any time leaving you scrambling. They do tell you this, but will say you can expect it to last a year and then cancel it in a month. Employees of many years have been burned with the loss of their positions and were left with nothing to show for their work. You are expected to go above and beyond with no rewards. Most supervisors don't even acknowledge the work you do. Staff are overworked, underpaid, resentful and therefore create a toxic and negative work environment. 

Benefits/Vacation for full-time is good. 

A typical day can include being mandated after a 12 hour shift, they will say this does not happen often but unfortunately it does

I have not learned much regarding this job other then that staff are stressed and being mistreated by management and youth

Workplace culture: being guilt tripped into picking up shifts, running the job site without a supervisor there. Having a supervisor not cover shifts and having them inform there boss they do

Hardest part of the job, is the lack of work life balance. Every day off I have had I have received a phone call regarding if I would like to pick up shifts or information regarding other peers in the home. In this job you can not make plans after work ever because you never know when you will be mandated and expected to stay. On call is not required to come. 

The most enjoyable part was making a few friends at this job. 

In my time working here we have had several staff go on stress leave, quit, relocate, we’ve gone through 3 supervisors, 2 managers, and then some. Staff are often burnt out and do not have reassurance from upper management whatsoever. Youth in certain programs aren’t even at the level required to be in the program at times, it’s all about funding and who brings in the most funding. I wish I had done more research before seeking employment especially within this agency as it’s corrupt and has bounds of conflicts of interest within staff and youth, you’ll be challenged with ethics dilemmas and dealing with things out of your comfort zone on a regular basis. On top of it all, the lack of staff due to the high turnover rate is atrocious, individuals in service would rather be homeless and on the street instead of in their of programs. A LOT is swooped under the rug when it comes to ethics and it’s truly unfortunate, please steer clear from here.

The most poorly managed job I have ever worked at; management does not care about what their employees and clients think and feel and were often invalidating. The workplace environment was very toxic and co-workers regularly gossiped about each other and behind people's backs. The long, irregular hours and frequent mandated stays made having any life outside of this job impossible and the pay is extremely little for all of the responsibilities staff are given. All of this caused constant understaffing as people constantly quit. The youth in these treatment programs don't have much of a voice or say in the program and are very unhappy being there.

This agency is absolutely terrible!! Staff are constantly mandated to stay due to lack of staff. The lack of staff is due to poor management and them simply not caring about their support staff! The individuals and families are extremely unhappy with the support provided, and as a counsellor myself it is sad to see the lack of actual support given. Compared to other agencies i’m not even sure how compliance hasn’t been able to shut this agency down already. Steer clear if you’re looking to add meaningful experience to your resume and actually feel as though you’re truly making a difference in the lives of individuals, rather than be consumed by constant guilt as their support funding is clearly drained with no real difference being made to their lives (whereas it should be !! )

supporting vulnerable population and having a great meaning of life is greatest feeling about working at humana. I joiner as DSW and I applied internally to get to the higher position. There is a lot to learn and management is very supportive.

As you work with a team there can be pros and cons but if you hold your values and avoid negatives this is the best job to keep doing. I love to go to work and finish my duties. I like to face chellanges and I have redesigned myself and my portfolio working at Humana. it suits my career goal and there are lots of opportunities that you get when you work at humana social services.

Clients and regular staff were great to interact with.

Some directors and management were hard to work with and lack clear communication and understanding of project management.

It's okay as long as you fall under the right management.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On the go, fast paced and sometimes a environment that requires lots of patience.

Humana’s on site managers are amazing, but, they are limited by the non supportive, unprofessional HR persons. HR will fail to respond to emails that are urgent for medical needs, and will completely ignore the employee, forcing a grievance or resignation. Employees get mandated regularity because lack of staff, and support from higher up. The job does not pay what it should , nor do the staff get the respect they should, or support when working with the high risk population they do. 

Staff were constantly leaving. Youth made it great but the company and management changed their philosophy day in and day out. At one point it was to make kids feel important. The second they changed to “treatment” some kids were no longer important and wouldn’t be accepted into a home due to lack of profit. Staff are overworked. Critiqued. And preference is given to those who knew each other before. 

I liked. Work .i worked  nights pretty consistent. I alway learned something about the kids. I had a great supervisor who would call me onces a week to help me with my anxietirs. The ageny lent me a car to go to another house because i did not have a vehicle. The staff was great always will ing to help out with my computer issues. They were fun to be with. The  hardest part of the job the  computer. The most enjoyable part of the job the peopl residents, staff and management. All good.
