1. A Typical Day at Work:
As a Student Plumbing Ambassador, a typical day often starts with a morning meeting to outline tasks and goals for the day. Duties may include assisting faculty during plumbing workshops, helping fellow students understand plumbing concepts, and providing support during hands-on training sessions. The role may also involve preparing materials for demonstrations, engaging in discussions about plumbing practices, and participating in safety training. Each day can vary widely, providing opportunities to learn and apply skills in various plumbing-related activities.

2. What You Believe You Learned:
Throughout the experience, I gained practical knowledge about plumbing systems, tools, and techniques. I learned the importance of teamwork and communication while working with both instructors and fellow students. Additionally, I developed problem-solving skills, as plumbing often requires quick thinking to address unexpected issues. This role also helped me improve my public speaking and teaching abilities, as I often had to explain concepts to peers.

3. Management:
Management in this role is typically supportive and focused on student development. Instructors and program coordinators are generally approachable and provide constructive feedback. They encourage collaboration among students and take an interest in our success, making an effort to create a positive learning environment. Their open-door policy fosters an atmosphere where students feel comfortable seeking guidance.

As Plumbing Ambassadors, students come together from diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone’s input is valued. The culture promotes continuous learning, not just in plumbing but also in personal development, as we are encouraged to share ideas and support one another.

5. The Hardest Part of the Job:
The hardest part of the job can be managing the challenges of teaching complex plumbing concepts to peers who may have varying levels of understanding. It can be particularly challenging to explain intricate ideas in a way that is relatable and easy to digest. Additionally, working with physical plumbing systems can involve troubleshooting unexpected problems, requiring patience and persistence.

6. The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most enjoyable part of the job is the opportunity to share knowledge and see the progress of fellow students. Witnessing a peer grasp a challenging concept or successfully complete a plumbing task due to your assistance is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, the hands-on nature of the work allows for a fun and engaging learning environment, where students can apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations. The camaraderie among students and instructors also adds to the satisfaction of the role, making each day enjoyable.

The co-op placement was a mandatory course within my program. Experiencing being an esthetician has helped me gain confidence in working with a diversity of people. Ranging from offering and performing services to working at the reception area gave me an idea of how it would be like to work in those field of areas. I really enjoyed getting to interact and driving retail sales as I got to share my experience of using my favorites products from Dermalogica with my clients. Working at the Humber Spa allowed me to build my clientele and meet all sorts of people that I will experience facing with if I were to work at an actual spa. A typical day at work would be performing services for clients, interacting with them, and selling products. The course also offered an experience of being a manager for the day. That experience gave me a quick learning and idea of what it would be like to be in charge and taking leadership. I also got to experience working at the front line where I got to practice using the Point of Sale system, picking up phone calls, booking appointments, etc. The hardest part of job at first was dealing with clients who would constantly come in late, but still having to complete the services on time. This taught me to compromise more by doing multiple things at once. For example, if I were to perform a facial, I would put the masque on my client and perform a massage at the same time rather than performing two things at a separate time, or using my time wisely by putting more time on targeting the client's concern and leaving less time with the less concerns. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to see my clients leave with a happy smile/satisfaction. That showed me that I did a job well done and that would give me extra energy or a boost of confidence for my next service. I also really enjoyed the overall experience of the work environment, the people that I got to work with, and especially my clients.

Unfortunately my opinion of schooling in North America isn't very good. Having taught at Humber, OCAD and George Brown I can say that too much emphasis has been placed on making money from students. In Sweden where I did my masters they have a much healthier model whereby the industry and government fund schools that only take as many students as the industry can accept and consequently can be much more stringent with the entrance requirements. This is much better for the economy and reputation of the schools, not to mention the benefits students experience. Students can spend time learning and not working several jobs to pay for the ever climbing student fees. Efforts to augment the experience with outside sponsored projects are only worsening the situations as the students might get a couple of thousand in prize money which devalues the student and uses the teacher as a cheap consultant. 

As for the Staff at Humber College. They are a mix bag, with some very talented and dedicated people who do the best with the system they exist within.

My experience at Humber College is not only the one of a student, but also the one of a worker.
As a full-time student I need to attend to class, complete tests and assignments, and learn how to become a respectable Electronics Engineering Technologist. 
As a worker instead, I need to coop with different situations that include the management of a small class of students and helping in the processing of international applications. 

A typical day at work involves different tasks from meetings with co-workers to data entry in the college's database. 
I like being able to accomplish a variety of tasks, so that I never get tired of what I am doing. In addition, this experience is helping me enhancing my time management skills. 

It is not easy meeting deadlines and coordinating the different activities that I involved in.  For example, a typical Wednesday includes working in the International Centre Office, going to classes and facilitating a workshop session. 
Despite the difficulties, I am enjoying my life. Classmate and co-workers are friendly and kind. Disagreements are resolved within small discussions thank to tolerance and understanding of different perspectives. Furthermore, I am happy to be able to help other students with getting to know the college environment.

My role as LMT at Humber College, North Campus began with an intense interview that ensured I was able to handle the dynamic and ever changing environment of working in a College.
Duties included ensuring that Labs (cooking classes) were stocked with all items and products that the Chef & his students would require for a successful lesson in cooking; My department was responsible for the proper functioning of the entire Hospitality portion of the College.  
With so many students always on the go, there was never a dull moment while on shift.  Students and staff alike routinely required our services and assistant in locating or making requisitions for future or current cooking classes.
At any given time during my shift, communication and interactions with Chefs, Professors and students was to be expected, it was difficult to find time to have a break.  HRT was and probably still is one of the busiest departments in the entire College. I thoroughly enjoyed this contract position and was saddened when the individual I had been filling in for was ready to return to work.

as a student and graduate working for humber I found that some of the full time staff leading the project work would undermine and disregard the students and grads in there work force. with limited hours a week to do the work they often got upset with the turn in of project work. This was made worse when work and designs had been completed and the staff was going over a review to make sure there where no errors in the blue print designs. during this specific process it takes a lot of time to find the little details that may or may not be there and when the work gets turned in again with very little changes accusations of time fraud get thrown around when the reality of the situation is the staff is just disregarding the time it takes to actually do the review work.

In addition the head of the research department is wonderful and understanding, always willing to help and guide the students as well as the supporting staff to help with the media, project funding, and general management are wonderful who respect assist and support the project staff.

Humber is very much like any other large organization, public or private. There are shortages in staff that make achieving goals near impossible. Nearly all service departments have offloaded their work to the departments they are to service, leaving those untrained in finance, human resources, and marketing wasting time making mistakes instead of doing what they were hired to contribute to the College.  Good people trying their best across the college, but misaligned operational systems makes everyone frustrated constantly. 

At Humber College's International Centre I am using my analytical and advanced data management skills to identify cost-savings opportunities and improve our overall performance.

I enjoy making the office more productive and I like the fact that my supervisor is always open to new ideas or suggestions.

In my position I have enhanced my presentation skills. I frequently requested to prepare reports and these have to accompanied with a clear and concise explanation that proves how the data is reliable and updated.

The hardest part of my job would be shipping tons of printed materials and promo items to student fairs overseas in a short period of time. However, once I am done I really enjoy watching how all the boxes arrive on-time to be used by the managers in charge of each market.

The prestige of working post secondary education is what drew me in but all that glitters isn't gold. Remember that?!

Make sure you ask questions before you sign anything!!!!

I was really disappointed from day one, first of all the posting said there were benefits which I was excited about because that is rare with part-time work. I trusted them and didn't ask anything further. When I finally reached out to inquire, I was told there are NO BENEFITS! I coasted along for half the time not wanting to make any waves. Once I started asking questions things took a horrible turn. But there were several issues that made for a stressful time at Humber. Things needed to be clearer and more organized and less chaotic. Management made me feel small and stupid once I disclose about my disability... On the bright side,  I did learn a lot while there and no one can take that learning away from me. For that I can honestly say, thanks Humber.

It was fun to experience and work as a RA! 
A typical day would be us being on duty from 7pm to 7am, being a very situational shift, our duties would be served if any situation required assistance at Residence. 
I've built my confidence in working with a team, and knowing how to voice my opinion in certain situations. 
The workplace culture has always been very friendly, my colleagues are very nice and helpful people. 
The hardest part of the job is always the mental stress some unexpected events can give you, so it's always a challenge to be strong and face as well as manage some situations. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is the role of a RA itself! I have always loved doing the creative parts of the job, organizing events with people, socializing with residents on my floor and advocating for their needs. After all, true leadership is when you understand others' needs are are ready to empathize and support!
