HyPower Systems

Job was offered by my previous supervisor who transferred and worked with them.

a typical day at work involves repair of hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders, hydraulic piston pumps, servicing of hydraulic system of equipment, occasionally accompanying the foreman in onsite servicing, Hone machine, hydraulic test benches operation.

I was not required by the management a certification to do my job for the reason that "I have shown and proven that I am very knowledgeable on what I am tasked to do". I realized that you need a red seal certification when you apply with other companies. Learning the essence of (DVA) Documented Value Added as a marketing tool is really significant.

The management personnel have professionalism and good personnel management abilities. Work quality and safety were given at most priority.

I had a good relationship with my co-workers and team work was well practiced.

I had a hard time when I am idle and have nothing to do.

I enjoy so much finding solution to a hydraulic problem, it gives me satisfaction when customer are happy and satisfied with the work I have done.

Typical work day - Managed, scheduled and coordinated repairs and service calls. Maintained and ordered inventory as per service agreements with clients. Compiled “Request for Quotation” and estimates, writing of detailed technical reports for clients with a full assessment of work carried out. Analyzed inspection results and worked with shop personnel to coordinate scope of work and priority 
of repairs. Liaised with clients to resolve technical queries and the placement and tracking of sub-contracts for outsourcing. Prepared project status reports, data sheets, technical data packages, QC documents, regulatory documents and job invoices. Participated in and reviewed the creation of engineered templates and tools for the repair/service centre. Maintained effective internal and external communication with sales, purchasing, production and customers. there was a lot of office politics with the existing co-workers. Management was none existent as management was located in Saskatoon, SK and Surrey, BC.

The area manager for this company fosters a culture of "everyone is replaceable". I worked for this company for several years and saw nothing but a revolving door of good and bad employees. Usually the good employees would be under paid, and under appreciated, and once they figured that out, would leave for better jobs. The employees that stay are usually the under achievers, as in they fly under the radar, and do as little as possible, which translates into a lack of overall knowledge and poor customer service. Most of the employees are not ticketed, or are not properly trained to do the jobs they are expected to do. The customers end up paying good money figuring they are getting trained professionals, when in reality they are getting Jo Blow that was just hired off the street, these guys usually have little to no experience in the trade. The company provides a bonus system for management based on keeping costs down. This also includes keeping wages down. The less they spend, the more management can pocket. Think about that when you want a pay raise.

Hypower was a great company to work for back in the day. The company was at one time the number one go to for hydraulics, now it is usually the last place people go to. It started to go down hill after they promoted a sales manager, to regional manager.  Now this same guy has been promoted to VP of the company. Could trust him about as far as you could throw him. Many good employees have been lost over the years due to being poorly treated, and in most cases grossly under paid. Most of the employees don't have any proper training, and most don't have any actual trades tickets. Very shady business practices, they end up over charging customers for sub-par work, and will find excuses to not give customers warranty even when the work was done improperly. Most co workers were decent to work with, but if you needed to be trained, remember you are being trained by people that have zero qualifications, and don't really know the proper way of doing the work themselves.

Been a long time employee, keeping my head above water and not drowning in the drama created by management. Employees are severely under appreciated to the point where you either quit or terminated. They have a track record for bad customer service, over/under billing jobs and blaming it on the workers, not the fumbles and decision making of the managers. Human Resources are useless to help.
If you are looking for work, this place will cause extreme anxiety, stress, fear, and manipulative tactics, better to pass on this one, unless you want an unhealthy work/life relationship that will get you nowhere.

I feel in my current job I have no choice but task manage. On a daily basis we have customers that need work done yesterday at any cost customers that can wait a day but pay to have it done today and customers that want things done in a timely matter but cost efficiently. It is up to me to ensure those customers get what they want when they and how they want their services delivered. My work usually is gone unrecognised and never valued by my superiors, which is with out a doubt the hardest part of my job. I work with a great, fun group of guys. I learned to be tough-skinned quickly and sometimes you have to step outside your comfort zone and take charge.

Started my apprenticeship there in1988, terrible learning environment , some of the people were ok and others I have never missed. I was fired for no reason and the manager who fired me was fired himself a month later. I left and never looked back , I found much better employers and companies to work with. I am now retired with a great pension. Over the years I have dealt with other  hydraulic companies through work worth a lot of money , but strangely enough , very seldom Hypower.

great place to work just a little to much  miss management and no real goals at all need to stay focused on getting the right things done very unsafe with little to no training at all need to promote within and stop laying off people at the wrong end of the pay scale

HyPower was a great place to work with a great system of teamwork. Great shift which provided a great balance in work and family life.

It's been too long since I've worked for HyPower, so this review will not do much good.  I did enjoy a good portion of the experience, but perhaps they were not able to innovate enough to really make an improvement in the future.
