The Customer Research department is very organized to ensure maximum productivity. The team only consists of a Senior Researcher and a Quality Control Analyst. The daily tasks of this department are organized into a strict schedule which is updated daily.  Majority of the customer surveys conducted are presented to the board of directors, where the results are used to assess the performance of managers in different groups. Due to the involvement of the board we are required to provide results, explanations and recommendations. The research quality control position requires a very high level of organization, attention to detail and the ability to identify trends and changes. My overall contribution has been exceptional as I have managed to keep track of and meet all the deadlines outlined in the schedule.
The main objective of this internship was to gain some hands on experience in the Mathematics and Statistics field. Furthermore, I looked to be proficient in data analysis, increase problem solving skills, to improve on presentational skills, increase attention to detail skills and demonstrate technical ability by learning and using new applications such as SPSS. During the three work terms here I was able to receive a great deal of experience as the position required constant data analysis. This in return helped me meet most of my learning objectives. For example, when I receive the data from the vendors I am in charge of checking if everything is consistent which helped in improving my attention to detail skills as well as my technical skills as I constantly used SPSS to check the data. I was also able to develop new skills during my internship at Hydro One. Throughout the year I experienced and learned many different types of corporate social interactions such as in-person, meetings, conference calls, emails, telephone and so on. This helped me learn how to interact in a business environment which I consider a vital part when working in a business professional environment.
My work term at Hydro One has been an extremely successful experience for me and has provided me with many of the necessary skills and abilities I need in order to be considered for many career opportunities. In the future I hope to have the opportunity to work for Hydro One again, as I found the environment to be extremely comfortable and pleasant where I am able to utilize my academic experience to deal with real world issues. In conclusion, being part of the co-op program and obtaining this job was the best thing for me as it helped me advance my career experience and aided me in determining what areas I still need improvement in.

Training wasn’t great. We spent a lot of time waiting. The trainer would be emailing, texting and messaging. Then we waited for people who showed up late. It someone was absent training was held up until the people got back. All of a sudden training was rushed to the end and we were not prepared for the exam.

It’s easier to get into if you have a friend or family member refer you. In my training class way more than half the class had family members refer them in.

The trainer who was apart of the interviewing said our social media team was checked out and what they saw determined if we got an interview or not. 

Because so many people are friends and family it’s very clicky and it’s hard to fit in. I felt like I was in high school. They told us the culture is warm, welcoming and inclusive and they follow their code of conduct closely but that was not my experience.

The job itself requires taking collection calls and when you have a customer who is being disconnected, that makes for the most difficult customer than say a Rogers customer.

They told us they have a very low turnover. The absenteeism is like nothing I have ever seen! There could be 22 people who called in in one day! That’s because the job is stressful and the culture is really hard to fit in.

I don’t think this would be the kind of position that could accommodate people with disabilities especially mental health disabilities. The culture is tough, you do have to work in office 3 days a week. Then the job is stressful. 

The pay looks amazing until you see the deductions, benefits are amazing and very expensive. Union dues are a big deduction also.

Also you start off as casual union hall but it takes along time to move over to the Hydro One side. There are people who have been there for 8 years and haven’t been able yet to move over. 

So that means you are working along side someone who’s making over 10 bucks an hour more than you are doing the same job. 

For me they painted a very pretty picture and none of the things they said were true. 




One of the worst companies to work for if you care about family and/or having a life outside of work. It takes 5 years to get a full time position in which they promise every year to "move you close to home" but they never do. They force you to take jobs in isolating locations, because if you dont, you're fired and put in the highering hall where you will most likely get sent somewhere just a terrible. There is no communication from management on purpose to keep young workers stuck with no answers. They preach "for family for life" but will do absolutely nothing to help you and your family be together. Not to mention after putting in 6 years without any paid vacation or sick time, you get a nice pay cut and only 10 days paid off for the entire year to vist your family on the complete other side of the province.  They send guys to remote locations with 2 weeks notice to find living arrangements with no support from the company to help you find lodging. Also if youre a full time employee you get nothing to help offset the cost of paying double for everything (rent, hydro, internet ect). The expectation is that you uproot your life and move on a whim to wherever they put you, and if you have roots and a family somewhere else ...tough. Your options are to eirther  uproot everything and have them move with you, or go by yourself while your family suffers mentally and fiancially waiting for the time you might get moved home. Which oh yeah, you can only get moved once per year during the mass hiring, so your family will suffer for at least an additional year without you and there is no guarantee that after putting in your time that you will get moved home. No one at this company cares about you, if you dont like, it they will have another guy to replace you in an instant 

During my time as a contract instructor at the Orangeville location, I encountered a workplace rife with favoritism, unethical behavior, and a lack of accountability.

Management frequently engaged in politics, creating a hostile environment where favoritism influenced key decisions. Despite the pretense of fair competition for permanent roles, it was clear that certain individuals were given preferential treatment. The culture rewarded loyalty to the "inner circle" over performance or fairness.

I faced inappropriate comments and behaviors that made the workplace uncomfortable. Reporting these concerns led nowhere, as HR seemed more focused on shielding the company than addressing the issues raised. I felt singled out, and my treatment worsened significantly, culminating in my termination under unclear and contradictory circumstances. Afterwards finding out they essentially made up a reason for termination. So much effort waisted on power playing an entry level employee is insane to me. The ratepayer money waisted, I’m guessing is in the billions.

This experience left me deeply disheartened. Hydro One’s lack of professionalism and disregard for employee well-being make it a company I cannot recommend.

Hydro One is a good place to work if you are unionized.  If you are non-union ("management"), then the level of job security or advancement opportunities is not to be assumed as there is a high turnover with senior management and every time that happens, the wheel is reinvented and reorganization happens.  Leadership always makes room for their cronies and family members at the expense of long-time, dedicated and admired management employees.  It has happened to many admired folks who have been there for years within a few years of their retirement which is unconscionable.

They promote health and safety as their #1 priority for employees but it is lip service and most of us that work there know it. They waste a lot of work time from employees to attend meetings where they discuss subjects that are common knowledge (how to back into a parking space, protect yourself from ticks, sit in a chair properly) and spend incredible amounts of money in salaries (400+ employees?) for an entire department where many do not have any health & safety experience.  Hydro One's #1 one mandate is to provide return on investment to their shareholders.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The salary is competitive and benefits great.  I was there 35.5 years and loved all the opportunities I got there to work in different areas such as audit, financial reporting, regulatory, PM roles for upgrades under 700 hrs. , investment planning tool for Distribution and Transmission, benchmarking, process improvements, records management, SharePoint 2010  and some exposure to SPO, trainer and administration for ARIS, Uperform, Etime and finally responsible for upgrading software and certification of net new products. As a CPA, CMA I have gained many skills which I can use moving to my next job opportunities. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Handling multiple jobs (4) due to staff movements or retirements and still trying to maintain the same level of quality.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hours of work vary depending on your job there are 35/37.5/40 hrs depending you your role. The number of days in the office also varies some roles require you to be there every day others only 2 days per week. In all the areas I worked in management supported my training, family responsibilities amd personal needs. All which are important when working for a company.

As a Project Manager Intern, I had the opportunity to help manage several large-budget transmission and switching stations projects, providing me with the challenge to execute crucial roles by tight scheduled deadlines and ensuring that communication among all teams was clear and up to date. My tasks included attending and leading meetings by either driving or flying to sites or holding them in conference rooms over phone, performing thorough material status checks and creating an organized schedule to keep myself on track, all of which required thorough pre-planning. I also worked simultaneously in the process management sector to keep myself busy and learn about how the information gathered was processed. 

The co-workers were very helpful when I required assistance or needed to offload a task. The environment was a bit slow paced but taking on more work allowed me to keep busy whilst also learning more. The freedom to talk to anyone and learn about what projects they work on was the most enjoyable part of the job. Additionally, being allowed to work on different projects and with different teams kept the work interesting.

My typical day involved performing database updates, coordinating activities with field staff with the support of my supervisor, reviewing and putting together new contract documents. This position allowed me to learn about the electricity distribution industry and its various components from both the business and field perspectives.

I acted as a liaison between field staff and management staff, providing technical support on field procedures. As an intern, I received excellent support from senior staff whenever it was necessary, and I was also exposed to working on some project as a sole contributor.

The hardest part of this position was initially dealing with uneasy staff, but I was able to find means to actually turn this into one of my most enjoyable experiences during my internship tenure. I was able to efficiently resolve issues and create an environment where everybody was happy to come to work everyday, through effective communication and staff management.

Hydro One is one of the biggest Electricity provider of Ontario area. It covers almost all areas in Ontario, so the management is structural and relax. 
I started my day by managing the emails of our team, and then I would release some projects to the field managers by using SAP.  I would also prepare the operational reports every month by using SharePoint 2010 and Business Intelligence due on a specific day each month. In addition, I would help to prepare the PPT extracting the data from Excel Analysis for our team leader to present to the field managers. My supervisors mentioned that I did a good job at work.
I learnt how to run and mend the Macros in Excel in order to run our operational reports and how to use SAP, SharePoint 2010 and Business Intelligence to release and get the data I need. 
The hardest part of the job is to mend the Macros since our operating system updated to windows 7 during that time. I learnt how to compile the Macros by myself to fix the compatible problems in Macros of Excel. The most enjoyable part of the job is that I have a lot of time to learn by myself.
