IMAX Corporation

There isn't two days alike in a week.  Every day is indeed a new day
as you will have guests from all over the world.  These people have
different cultures and don't automatically adapt to Canadian culture
when their passports receive the stamp to show they passed through
our borders.  You have to co-habitate with these differences if you
want to work in tourism.  Most of our staff throughout the high peak
season is students.  As a Supervisor you are there to enrich this
experience for the students but also keep them in line with the job
at hand.  My most favourite part of the job is working with the 
Korean people.  I enjoyed it so much that i decided to learn the
language.  It is very difficult but have had some success.  I am
hoping that one of the local colleges will offer it soon as they already
offer mandarin and japanese courses.  I would enroll in George Brown College in Toronto as they offer a beginner and secondary
Korean courses but unfortunately doing the beginner course would
require me to drive weekly to Toronto throughout the winter months.
Their requirement for the secondary course is that you are successful
in completing the beginners course.  A local church has a Korean mass on Sunday evenings as i just learned at Christmas time.  I am
going to try my best to attend.  So far it has not been convenient due
to weather or I am scheduled to work during that time.  I like to work
and keep busy and hopefully this shows in my performance.

I have never given a review, this is my 1st time because it deserves 0 Star. Management is useless. There are lots of Senior Management, as they is more “Chiefs” then “Indians” but where you need more help you don’t get it. The example: they have many HR for this and that and you lose track of how many HR they have but no help with anything that you seriously need. When you start at IMAX they tell you that the company wants to see you grow and succeed. I worked lots of overtime and on the weekends to catch up as there was a lot to learn. Unfortunately, as you progress through the company you realize they do not follow their own "10 values" and do not create the type of environment they project.  I always asked my supervisor for feedback and I got nothing, no feedback at all, not even constructive criticism I would welcome.  The mood is chaotic and disorganized. Constant long meeting with no particular resolution at all. They don’t care about employees because they know they have multiple replacements. Very cold and dark place to work.



A typical day would start up with coming in the to the theater and powering up and cleaning all equipment for use in the projection booth. I learned how to operate and trouble shoot projector and platter malfunctions, how to work efficiently and effectively without being supervised, and to work within tight time constraints. Co-workers were enjoyable when given the opportunity to interact with them. The hardest part of the job was making sure to always be 100% and setting up each show, so that no damage would come to the film. Most enjoyable part I found was being able to work unsupervised. It made me want to strive to do my job harder, so that my boss what take notice of how good an employ I was.

It is good industry, entertainment, employees are given out free movie tickets sometime. Workplace is nice and open that enhance social communication. However top management is so isolated and not easily to reach to, even direct report level.

Even working in finance, the most enjoyable part of my daily activities are working with engineering and manufacturing group.

At the Imax theatre, everyone gets along and the employees want to make you feel welcome. We have great corporate culture here and overall a good work day, and even though its a typical summer job working at a movie theatre, I personally enjoy going to work. There are many lists provided to make sure you get everything done on time and the managements main goal is to make you successful at what you do. Overall though it is a great place to work and I really enjoy being there

Great place to work within the post-production side of the industry. Excellent teammates and comradery. In hindsight, would have really loved to stay.

The production pipeline was proprietary but not unfamiliar. Most projects were managed in with excellent time-management and vision. Getting to work with various productions and markets was a great insight into the grander picture of co-operation between studios and production companies, and release timelines.

It was a really amazing experience to work for IMAX. One that I still talk to about to this day.

This place is awful!! For all they did when the time came for 25 years, they make your job obsolete and tell you that you're over qualified for any other jobs available!!! Truth is the job name seemed to change and let me tell you they buy out your pension for less then it's worth and after 24 years they replace!!! You mean nothing to them except a number!!! Kept my education up did everything I was told...I was a team player and worked great independently.  Let go only because they didn't want to pay me for all my hard work once I retired!!! Greedy disgusting company!!!!

Working at IMAX means working for one of the most innovative companies in audiovisual technology combined with all that is good about the world of movies. It is also a hub for smarts and an tech genius. Work is always challenging, always changing so its never boring. Management allows people to develop their initiative, which is the company's secret of success

answering all incoming calls form Theaters around the world with digital issues. Great incoming guests and agents, having them sign in and get them escorted to the right person or area.

Booking board rooms for different dept meetings and doing odd jobs for the Hr dept. Lots of interactions with all the employees who make working here a wonderful place

Loved working here. Did contract work twice. Department manager very accommodating for personal and family appointments. Always allowed to make up the time off on other days.
