Typical day is they give you a start time and when you to take 15 minutes off for your actual start time. 
Then once you start they could send you to any other plant they want including Lafarge plants.
If you’re lucky enough to stay at your home plant then they will push you to move, even if you are on your allotted break (10 minutes of course), then you could get anywhere from 4 to 13 hours, however if you’re in your 12 hour they will push you to take another load, because they will say it’s cheaper to them for you to drive it to whatever site they’re sending you to and have it towed home then it is to be late or miss a load.
Their scheduling is inadequate by far, you will either start late and finish early or start early and then get pushed to work more than your allotted hours. They really push for the 14 hours.
The most enjoyable part of the job is going home.
The hardest part of the job is not quitting halfway through the day.
The lack of knowledge on the management part is unbearable at times, to many people who think they are in control and not any real leaders.
As for the work place culture it’s literally like high school. If you’re lucky enough you will fit in.
But if you don’t fit in you’re an outsider that they will be nice to around the holidays. 
And by any chance if you think you’d like to email anyone higher up, good luck getting their email.
They say they’re losing money, but they fix all these small things that can wait.
They also used to give jackets in the winter but as of the last one they want you to pay for it.


Not a good company to work for. Lack of communication from dispatch to drivers.
Lack of understanding and compassion for drivers. You could be on the 12 hour and they will say it’s cheaper for them to get you to take the load and get it towed back then be late for a customer.
Always waiting for parts for the trucks and back ups are grossly outdated.
Use cameras to micro manage and punish drivers but tell you that they only use it for coaching. 
Don’t have an Human Resources person and or don’t know if they’ve hired anyone since the last person retired.
Tell you to follow policies and change them when it suits them.
They say one thing and do another.
The most Senior drivers trucks(If you’re a favourite) is not allowed to be used by Junior
Drivers but junior drivers trucks can be used by anyone.
They will suspend you if they think your reaching for a phone without proof, but let a driver who backed into a barn and caused a lot of damage stay and get away with it even after he hits the slump rack with someone on it. And not punish them for it.
Tell the drivers not to do something and then when they’re in front of the customer tell them something else.
Basically if you are wanting a job who treats you fair the stay away

Decent place to work. Union job with union pay, good benefits and pension.
The problem is that it takes 3 years to get to full union wage. Because it’s union, hours are based on seniority (most senior guy is the first guy in). Every day is different according to work that day so sometimes everyone is scheduled, other times only say 20 of the 25 guys out of that particular yard are scheduled(the rest are on call). First year guys will struggle to get 40 hours except during peak summer months.
You get a guaranteed minimum wage even if you don’t get called in at all(roughly $500/week, same as EI). Be prepared to live on this for a good chunk of the first year! No joke. The first year is killer.

Never know when you will start or finish your shift.  Could be 0-13 hrs.  Preaches life work balance then management demands Sat work and tells you on Friday afternoon so don't bother making weekend family plans.  Understaffed in every part of company.  Employee moral zero concern of management because they are miserable and mistreated from above also.  Cameras inside trucks facing driver.  No privacy or trust.  Told used just for coaching but they use to watch for everything you do.  Used to be great place to work but new ridiculous rules and micro managing and lack of support have ruined this company.

Typically the day itself isn’t hard. Lots of micro managing drivers from people who have never done your job or know how. Camera in truck facing driver if you forget to wear a seat belt even when in yard you can be written up. Expected to drive over your daily hour limit, no work schedule. They want you available 24 hours 6 days a week. The pay and benefits are above average for dz but what they expect in return isn’t worth it.  You’ll never advance as a driver it’s a dead end job expect nobody to care about you until after 10-15 years working there.

put A lot of time and effort to participate and partner but never appreciated.  Took over a month of person time and travel for drug tests, physical abilities testing, and interviews with no compensation. Job would pay well if steady work was available. If they don’t like someone they will move you to the furthest yard to make your life miserable so you might quit instead of just paying a severance and professionally part ways.

Lack of management support.  Batcher support and proper directions to customer address.

The initial time period requires money saved. I have had very little work, considering being a 'full time employee'.

As my seniority grows, I would be getting more hours.

The trucks are maintained to road safety regulations; the newer trucks are in mint condition.
