First of all I want to say that most of the people there are great and I enjoyed working with them.  That's why I stayed for so long. 
 I've learned since then though that every DI clinic has some great people so you may was well work where you're valued.  

What I didn't enjoy is being expected to work with ancient technology.  We're expected to find pathology that can be very subtle.  The technology should support those efforts not hinder them.  Just about every day a new  rule came out, most often without any explanation and they didn't seem like they were for making the workplace better.  The explanation we often got was more or less "because I said so".  If you questioned policy then you were put to the side.  It's one of the reasons why this clinic is behind the times compared to other clinics in Edmonton. 
 They can't adapt, grow or evolve when the leadership is totally stuck in their ways.  There's zero room to grow .  I asked for more duties and responsibilities and all they offered was that if I paid out of my own pocket to get more education they would reimburse me about $600.  That didn't even come close to the cost of courses that I needed to maintain my licensing or to even attend a single conference.  This company is extremely nice to new people but once you're contract is fulfilled they really don't care about you.  I've seen techs migrate across canada to work for them and then end up trapped in a toxic work environment.  If you're an ultrasound tech I would suggest not applying.  

When I started here I was super young but I didn’t really think it would be an issue if I mentioned it, but apparently it was. For a long time I was treated like a child and every time a mistake was made everyone was pointing at me. This job has been so great in so many aspects but my mental health has gone completely downhill. Not only is the management poor here, it’s impossible to get along with most people (at least for me) to the point where you actually want to hang out with them outside of work. I definitely have many many great friends here and there are so many receptionist ladies and techs that I adore, but it’s the ones that treat me like I’m a little kid or the ones that are always after me that really stick in my head. If we set the awful work environment aside, Insight does try to treat their employees with respect. The pay is good, hours are decent, and they always send me a message when I call in sick to make sure I’m doing okay. 

So if you want to work at Insight I believe that you will definitely get paid well and you will have some enjoyable moments, but be prepared for high stress and very busy days. Expect that some people will be nasty to you. But I guess that’s just the world we live in. You tell people that your mental health is suffering, no one will care because a job is a job.

working at insight had such a toxic work environment, in the technologist role you would often be running the clinic by yourself while your co-workers are making excuses to dodge cases or often dodging the "harder" patients. 

For example, I would be running a clinic where two techs should be scheduled, and my coworker would be using excuses like...
 "I need to go talk to the manager."
 "I gotta use the restroom"
 "I'll be right back to do some stocking". 

Its even worse for managers working "on the floor".... anytime a harder/longer case appears on the worklist, the manger always needs to go check on emails. 

Alternatively, insight often has many clinics work short where you would be doing 40+ patients by yourself, you will be run dry and burnt out very quickly. 

^ this is where the favoritism comes in, as the scheduling manager will book in her friends into the quiet or easy clinics and the "others" into the extremely busy clinics. 

site leads are toxic and overbearing, if insight doesn't like you then you will be assigned the busiest and worst clinics. 

The pay is quite good as the match AHS, however they do not meet the weekend and evening premiums. 

Overall insight vs AHS you will be losing money on shift differentials, benefits and the pension. 

Insight has 20+ Partners who are responsible for making decisions- in my opinion a major obstacle to forward progress and maintaining a positive work environment.

In my opinion, their ongoing issues are politicking, gossip, a lack of accountability, employees who bully each other, poor communication between departments, filtering of information, disloyalty, and a lack of clear processes.  During my time there, some of this dysfunction came from the HR department itself, making it very difficult to bring forward sensitive issues that needed to be resolved by an objective third party.

In my opinion, the Radiologists are inconsistent in their views and approach (not a surprise with 20+ people in charge).  Some are conscientious and good at building relationships, others are focused exclusively on profit and have insufficient people skills.  This inconsistency trickles down through the rest of the organization.

In my opinion, Insight has the potential and materials to be one of the best workplaces in the province.  Unfortunately, again in my opinion, until the Partnership accepts responsibility and addresses these issues they will not retain their talent and the environment will not improve.

Hard workers aren't appreciated. The only way to keep a job is to be friends with site lead and managers. Site lead gossips about others and lies. I was treated different because I don't have children. Casual tech can pick and choose days worked and locations while full-time staff are to move around to accommodate. Skills are taken away and an expectation to work in an area and use these lost skills after months of not being given the opportunity. Manager ignores requests to discuss issues but will talk about issues with site lead, who lies, as well as staff friends. Others suck up to managers to keep jobs. There is no confidentiality or professionalism. Site lead changes templates with expectations to do more work than other sites. Site lead will ask to drop days so the friend has more shifts, as well as makes comments about not needing to work fulltime so friend gets shifts. Incompetent staff is not addressed. Favoritism at its best. Those who go the extra mile and work hard don't have a chance.

Pros: they will try and make your home site closest to your home, pizza lunches, friendly techs, good learning environment, a fun Christmas party, some radiologists are quite approachable.

Cons: they place favorites on techs who they like most, many with lesser experience, they are not always willing to help expand and grow the skill set of an eager tech, they constantly add new protocols and worksheet updates without offering more time to perform exams, somewhat toxic work culture that  feels like a high school popularity contest (eg. the chattiest or most vocal people get ahead) hard workers who take on more are not appreciated or rewarded.

I worked as a patient care coordinator for a good amount of time. I found this job to be quite enjoyable but very fast paced with new information and changes daily. I loved the people I worked with and the management wasn't terrible. There isn't alot of room to grow in this position but occasionally there are opportunities. The company seemed to treat there employees well compared to other places. Overall I would recommend this job if you like working independently, and excell in a high pressure constantly changing environment. 

Working for this company is like living within Game of Thrones.  Every day someone is thrown off the ledge.  The management favours their friends with many of them promoting people that are inexperienced simply because their kids are on the same sports teams.   The workload is ever increasing for ultrasound techs.  Each month new requirements are added on for each exam but no extra time is provided.  If anything they're cutting back on time.  

I was working for this company for 5 years and I gave in my 2 week notice due to University demands, Nursing Job and Personal life. My mom was sick with stage 4 cancer and they released me without pay for the rest of my 2 weeks (illegal according to the labour relations board / law). The day they "fired" me, I took my mom to the emergency department the night before and stayed until morning. I even showed them the sick note I got from the emergency doctor.

This is a positive working environment,busy clinic but supportive staff and technologists and good benefits. They start staff at 3 weeks of vacation time annually with personal time allowed as well. There are frequent company building events and activities including golf tournaments, bowling nights and Space Science Center.
