I spent 4 1/2 years at intek and can honestly say the truth as I'm no longer an employee.

*The job is based of piece work and you are basically paid a base rate for each call you do, so there is a great about of hustle that is required, but job balance as you work at heights and need to watch out for your own safety as you primarily work alone, unless you work in commercial. 

*Company Vehicle:You are provided with a company work van that you can choose to take home or leave at the ware house, if you take the vehicle home you are charged 5.00 a day for use of the vehicle to cover "gas"

*Work Culture: The job is always on the go as you visit different customers homes on a daily basis, and meet a wide variety of people. You really do not see much of management aside from warehouse staff which for the most part are okay but are hard bent on supplying you on some of the supplies you need to complete your work. The hours are long usually the typical day during high seasons revolve on 2 shifts early:8-630 late:9;30 to 8:30. this sometimes makes it hard if you have a family or other commitments. and typically work 4 days on 2days off with one 3 day weekend.

*Tools:They provide you with all the tools you need to complete your job including a laptop, sim card (you need to bring your own phone), basic cable/phone tools, and fiber if your lucky, but you would need to purchase screw drivers etc.

Pay:The pay in honesty fluctuates up and down from good to bad depending on how the sales and services are working for rogers and the demand needed for technicians, you can make anywhere from 150-300 on a normal day to as low as 70 dollars in the slowest of days. They can also sit you if the work load is to thin. But this also depends if you are resi or commercial as commercial has higher piece rates and is overall a better job experience.

Opportunities: In the eyes of opportunity if you are a resi tech and you are good at your job the next step is generally commercial as the hours are better and the pay is still piece work but is also better. Other than that they occasionally hire supervisors but the pay is not great usually between 45000-51000 which most techs generally make more than that. 

Management: Honestly some people are great here, where others are not, They only really have 1 good manager in the place and the general manager is a joke, the other resi manager doesn't really support or work with his staff, and the commercial manager is in over his head. The HR does not really help out technicians nor listen to any concerns you may have. The supervisors are cool for the most part but good look finding them near the end of the day when most people typically need support. I won't name name's but for me the best manager was the one that ran york south and north at the time as I had previously worked with all three.

Overall: Intek is good if you are looking to get your foot in the door to rogers, or are looking for telecom experience, as they provide the tools, and training you would need to work in this field or related. Pay is give and take and there are good days and bad.

I learned a lot from Intek, and a lot of the certificates I gained from their training courses aloud me to access better employment opportunities in the telecommunications field. Work can be demanding, but it really good for people fresh out of school or people with no post secondary education or work experience. They provide almost everything you need to do the job, aside from a few tools I picked up myself just to make things easier. they give you a laptop and a work van which you can bring home, they pay for all the fuel and your courses to allow you to grow into a better employee and learn how telecommunications work. personally, I had no intention of advancing within the company, but I gained a lot of experience and made a comfortable wage while doing so. Great opportunity for younger guys who want to get their foot in the door, and have the ability and background to move on to bigger, better things, moving up within the company is also possible, depending on what ones goals are. You effectively act as your own boss, since you drive your van to job sights and complete orders, so no one is supervising you, good way to learn time management and self reliance. Really helped me to become an independent worker, and aloud me to gain experience as a contractor. all the certificates I received, helped me secure a better position within the telecommunications field.

What is the best part of working at the company?
First year as a training / independent is good but the 2nd year if you are still there and have not quit become extremely hard. Too much demand and expectation. The pay is by piece work .If you are good may be you make up to $750 biweekly. They are ready to dispose you easily when you are no longer their favorite. They even threaten you that they will make sure that you never work for any telecommunication company in Canada as  I am finding out right now when they fire me without previous warning because my wife accompany me to the warehouse in a company truck for restocking. I am one of their best Technician judging from customer reviews/feedback. I have out of work for the past 7 months and have had couple of interviews with potential employers and I don't know what they are feeding them about me. I am not the one with this bad experience. I think I made a bad decision switching from my usual tech support on computer because of the passion I have for the job. How can you survive on $1500 monthly, it can't even pay my rent not to talk of other essential needs.

The pay is really poor and employees are treated poorly. I worked more than 10hrs a day most times due to work demand at customer's place.

As a piecework employee without a minimum pay guarantee, I often worry about whether I will earn enough money for the day or the month.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Most employees and supervisors are friendly and helpful. I rarely have to deal with upper management; overall, it’s not bad if you do your job properly and follow safety and work standards.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Be on-site at either 8:00 AM or 9:30 AM. The typical workday lasts about 10 hours. You'll need to manage your time effectively if you want to take a lunch break, as you will be expected to handle 6 to 8 calls during the day. You may finish early if the workload is light(no minimum pay for the day even if you are on the clock for 10 hr and get no work you could end up making less than minimum wage). Please be prepared to work in all types of weather/conditions both outside and inside customers' homes.

Enjoyed the experience of working hands on, troubleshooting challenges make the work fun place to be. Meeting with new people daily, helped me grow personally as well as professionally. Management was very helpful, especially human resource personnel were always there to solve any issues in organization. It provided me with an opportunity to have a proper work life balance. 
Salary was fairly paid, in accordance of work. Co workers were extremely helpful and sometimes assisted at difficult technical calls as well. Proper training was provided for three months at beginning, ride on with mentors helped a lot. Even after training periods, i used to call my mentor for certain technical issues which proved beneficial. Later after one year, i myself became trainer and trained total of 3 new technicians. Helping fellow technicians gave a great deal of confidence and it definitely boosted my morale. Overall working at Intek communications was a great experience, one i would cherish my lifetime. 

100% piecework w/ poor payouts. Jobs are inconsistent and mgmt plays favourites. You are punished for failure to take extra shifts when requested (it shows lack of commitment) by being removed from the schedule for a day, without notice - you'll show up for work then be sent home without pay. Don't mention labour laws - you'll be forced to quit by getting fewer jobs to do each day and/or get jobs that take hours to complete but only pay $16. Remember - this is a contractor to Rogers therefore Rogers is the company's top priority. If you have a family or just want a stable income that isn't affected by weather, availability of work or your relationship with management and dispatchers, then this job is NOT for you. Best suited candidates: If you live at home and don't have to pay rent or buy groceries.

The company spends on employees' knowledge and skills development, contrary to most security companies. It provided us a good extended benefit. We did not have to invest our personal belongings for work a lot, compared to what many security companies did. It did not require us to rotate on on-call shifts, so we were not waken up in the middle of the night, like most alarm companies did. A pay rate was bad because it used a piecework system, one of the most terrible pay systems ever created, to pay us. We had to work 10 to 16 hours a day, like hunting dogs, to make our living.

The field service and installation technician position is a great job for those looking to get into the workforce, get training provided and make money.  You are paid piecework so the earnings do fluctuate, but I found that the more efficient and skilled I became, the more money I was able to earn.  Benefits start after 6 months and are ok to start.  After 2 years you move up to the next tier of the plan which is really good and includes a health spending account.  Some other great aspects are the training, including health and safety training as well the company provided vehicle, gas card, cell phone plan, laptop, tools, etc.

A typical day will be a normal 8 hours of working whereby I learned how to respond to customers in selling and marketing the company's products. The management were good to employees and the atmosphere of working was good. The hardest part of the job was be failing to satisfy customers' needs which resulted in long working hours. The most enjoyable part was solving the company's complicated problem in a short span of time.
