Very good experience in terms of time management and other learning experiences.
For mobile job they start you off from 12 the maximum 13.
The supervisors on the road are extremely useless. They do the bare minimum of work. The management is absolutely horrible. They are non approachable, jokes, use bad language and makes jokes of you while you not there, don't care about their job, and they never care if their supervisors on the road is doing their job or not. The guys who make 12 or 13 hour they work extremely hard.
These guys put 30 to 40 kms overspeed on the road to meet the work requirements.
The management use a magic word saying you are doing a good work, we gonna promote you to a senior patrol officer. Well basically that means more work for same pay. Pay never increases.
If you very well on your evaluation you are eligible for 19 cents per year raise if you are making 13. And even then you must do like 10 courses to be eligible for that. 3 courses are more than 2 days.
Don't work for less than 15 at this work place.
Do your self a favor. If not you will regret it. Good luck. And don't let the management yell at you. Quit the job if necessary. Btw in last two months 10 guys left the job and most of them didn't have a second job. And lot of those guys worked more than 2 years with the division.

Intercon has been to a large extent coasting on their past reputation as a high-end, high-quality security contractor, but they are not that type of company today. After being bought by ADT and then Garda, it has transitioned to a low-end, low-wage company, and employees have been caught in the middle. Intercon does not give raises in the overwhelming majority of cases and the turnover is so high that most people never get out of the probationary period, so that many of their employees at a given time are making minimum wage even when tasked with securing multi-billion dollar corporate headquarters. There is no prospect for advancement as there is a solid wall between the corporate administrative side and the service side of the company. Intercon will pay basement-bottom wages for quite difficult and demanding positions. Do not work for them unless you have no other choice.

As I get ready to go to work, I spend about 30 minutes checking in with the familiar faces of The Weather Channel.  This will give me an indication of how strong I should make that first pot of coffee, and whether or not I should even bother packing a lunch. Working security has been a learning experience for me. I have learned to work with others who not even the same job title as me. I have learned how to encounter upset clients and work with them to maintain order. I have also encountered situations that require immediate attention and don't give you much time to stop and think about it. I would have to say this job is an awesome job for people who want to learn how to responsibility. The manager is a good person who will work with you no matter the situation and your co-workers always back you up.

A typical work day or night is basically to protect the clients proper from vandalism, theft and liability. I have learnt a lot throughout my shift, not to judge people and to respect others, because it can make  your job easier. for eg; an individual may enter the premises that you are working and sees something that are out of order, and can be detrimental to life,if they were treated with respect they would have brought it to your attention but because you did not talk or approach them properly, they do not point it out to you as the guard on duty. The hardest part of my job is to work a 12 hour shirt by myself in one set area. The most enjoyable part of my job is to engage clients in a meaningful conversation and knowing that after they left it has made a difference in their lives.

I joined Intercon initially as a part time security guard but soon committed to full time. I availed opportunities to work at sites such as Roger’s center, Mount Sinai hospital, College Park, Hudson’s Bay Center, Royal Bank Plaza, Scotia plaza to name a few. As an Intercon guard I was able to benefit from the free training courses such as customer service, communications, legal procedures, handcuffing and baton and first AID. By dealing on a daily basis with issues concerning either clients, employers or general public, my communication, customer service skills improved immensely and I was able to hone my conflict management skills.

Typical day was tiring and very busy. The most enjoyable part of the job was the training, scheduled breaks, clean uniforms and polite work culture. The hardest part of the job was pleasing middle management who worked their way up through favoritism or seniority. Average Manager didn't have know-how to keep staff motivated by using praise, recognition, or rewards. Instead, average manager used personal bias, favoritism and fear to support mass firing after a year, possibly for cost-effective measures just before a recession.

Working with intercon, I was lucky to work with great people, who take their work seriously but also know how to enjoy their time. The hours can be very good, my favourite being the continental shifts: 12 hours, 2 days on, 2 off, 3 on, 3 off, rotate to nights and repeat. Rotation is every two weeks. The job isnt like that everywhere but when it is, its quite useful to have that kind of time off. When I worked there about 6 years ago, management was terrible. A bunch of overweight blowhards, extremely conservative, and mostly white.

I come into work and the first thing I do is go to my assigned desk for the day and get a briefing on what's going on the desk from the dispatcher I'm relieving. Generally, it's asking about the weather, As I sign into the computer, the phones begin to ring and fire alarm goes off. I learned to managed answering all phones and call 911. My managers and co-works all were friendly people. Answering radios and phones plus contractors. Dealing with people.

As an image request coordinator my job was to respond to image requests from ADT clients in relation to frauds, skimming devices, and robberies and send these images to RCMP. excellent co-workers and management, tight deadlines and punctuality pressure, but working for ADT has helped me strengthen organizational skills as well interpersonal and communication skills as part of my job was to communicate with clients via phones.
