Interfor

Working at Interfor has been one of the best career moves I have made. Although my base role was as a recruiter for our salaried operations, I have worked with almost every department in HR on projects and initiatives related (and sometimes not) to my role. As someone who has worked with a lot of recruitment processes and systems in the past, I can say that Interfor has some of the most progressive recruitment processes I have worked with. Even when things have been seemingly perfected, the team here is not one to rest with the status quo, they are always looking at the next trend or development in recruitment that we can implement or try. The management at Interfor seems to really care about engaging employees and keeping them excited and motivated about their job. During my Career Development Plan meetings, I've been asked every year what I'd like exposure to, and within weeks I've been set up with that team or put on a project related to that. Interfor is also a very family friendly place to work, I don't feel micro-managed and I am fully trusted to do my job, even if that means working from home to take care of a sick child. This level of autonomy I really value and found it very motivating. Finally, the people; I have been very lucky to be on teams that were not only filled with incredibly talented and intelligent individuals, but they were are also fun, warm and welcoming.

Productive and Great place to work for.. Very safety oriented company, does not comprise on safety. Great group of people to work with.Fast past production line, very professional management and great employees.
Sorry no playing time.I learned great team leading skills, never comprise on safety. The hardest part of the job was probably the extended hours on daily basis. The most enjoyable part was working with great management and unionized workers. I learned a lot about safety and quick pace of the production line without comprise to the quality of the finished product.They have bbq for the whole mill lots of incentives and great policy and medical coverage's.Great workplace culture.A typical day at work is safety first and production secondary, very fast paced.The workplace culture was great.

The people on the floor are good people. Typical work environment. Management are horrendous micromanagers. They have zero desire to work with their employees. An absolute abomination of an upper management team. I have worked many jobs in my 14 year career as a millwright and the grand forks division has got to be the worst.  This job is a stay AWAY! Unless you want to be deceived, actively tried to be made to look like an idiot, and treated like an employee number rather than a person. The motto on the floor is Interfor Grand forks isn't happy until your not happy. The only reason people work here is because there isn't much industry In the area and they have mortgages. Everyone is unhappy due to incompetent, micromanaging, lying management.

The Nairn centre planer and sawmill are a joke run by condescending and dumb people.  They promote kids who have childish attitudes to supervisor and the other supervisors are selfe serving jerks who have been working here for years and think they own the place.

There is a big dummy who is supervisor who goes pushing his weight around and is very condescending towards everyone. They do not care about their employees safety at all.  Worse place I have ever worked and very very unsafe.  Management for some reason will not get rid of these local jerk supervisors for some reason so people keep leaving.  I cringe when I think about that place.  The managers should be called mismanagers.  Place is an absolute joke.

This company has good and bad as all place. overall it can be a fun place to work at but the atmosphere with management and worker are at a all time low. most worker work in fear of losing there job which spread like cancer with in the rank. The union is weak and fractured and the wage for tradesmen are at a all time low and should be matching other industry in the region. Some manager are really great individual while other love to be condescending. WIth a strong union leader or a entirely new union this place could rank high in job sastisfaction

I loved the job,   have 110% every day.   In 2 years of employment i took 2 sick days off. The second sick day i was fired  for "taking excessive time off"   I never took holidays,  floater days,  i never missed a day of work.  I've never had complaints about my work.  In fact there are supposed to be teams of 2 and i mostly worked alone. Because i worked hard enough to complete my tasks without help.   And this is the way i was treated.    I'm very disgusted with interfor.   They preach their all about the employees,  well for anemployee that gave 110% everyday.   My thanks was bankruptcy and a failed marriage.  That's what working at interfor Nairn division will get you

They promise the world and give you nothing. Can't get proper ppe or tools to do the job or be able to communicate with coworkers properly. Management is one of the worst I've seen.  There is little to no training. They always mess your hours up. Not once they got it right and when you bring it up to hr, supervisor, payroll they will pass it off to someone else and say talk to "this person". Management and supervisor's are so far apart on everything. Supervisor didn't even know what my full job title was.

Typical day is 5:00 am start, review any safety issues from previous shift, and act or correct behaviours per any outlined issues. Learned quite a lot on safety, near miss close call hazard assesments, and reporting.
Co-workersare all very supportive and mostly team oriented.
Hardest part of the job is not the actual job itself, but my round trip 3 hour daily commute.
Enjoy working within a team atmosphere and following through on safety issues and new carreer opportunities.

Physically demanding. But rewarding.

Very who you know not what you know based 

Overall an okay company to work for but has a lot of room for improvement. Culture is very old school, “boys club”. Management is lacking skills and micromanages. Fast paced environment and rarely recognized for extra effort but expectation to take on additional work. You will not feel like a valued member of a team working here.
Senior Management also exercises favouritism with certain individuals which is evident and unfair.
