What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working in the Staffing Office at Kelowna Hospital were Management and my co-workers. Although I said nothing to my Superiors about being informed that mother was dying of Kidney & Heart Failure and had little time 2 days prior to starting my training. Fortunately for me I couldn’t have chosen better co-workers myself. Everyone not knowing what I was trying to cope with were absolutely amazing. They were all very patient & supportive. Prior to the end of my training I was given a less stressful position but I was not retaining much at all. While I was still training and on a Monday morning on my way to work I got the call that I lost my mother. I took an unpaid leave for a few months. But upon returning I hadn’t retained enough to be a productive part of a team which would have been unfair to all in the Staffing office. So I had a meeting with my Manager and she asked if I would feel more comfortable working in the position of a Pt Ambassador and would make contact with the Manager of that Department. She went above and beyond the scope of her responsibilities. I did take a position and enjoyed the job and  all my new coworkers. I really miss everyone because I relocated to the Coast to be closer to my family. If anyone considering working for Interior Health it will be a very rewarding choice. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working in Kelowna Staffing office was letting down my Managers & Cowokers. They all went out of their way to help me and not out of pity but because they are wonderful people. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Awesome… Supportive… Caring… Approachable…

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy, and frustrating, but I really enjoyed being part of that team knowing your coworkers had your back.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I loved my job. Although many think office and accounting work is mundane, I enjoy knowing what to expect from each transaction. I enjoyed the routine and I got to help people from all over the world.  I worked for Interior Health out of Kamloops in the corporate Accounts Receivable Dept. In my particular position, I dealt with the billings of Out-of-Country Emergency Room patients. Most with travel insurance and some without. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There was no stressful part of working for this company in the capacity of the position I held. The only stress I encountered was becoming ill and the extremely negative experience of dealing with certain individuals in authority.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depends on what department you are working for. As with all positions, there are wonderful people and there are others not so wonderful.  I tried to be friendly to everyone. That is my nature. I didn't need to be outside of work buddies but I did try to be respectful and pleasant to everyone. Some weren't so receptive and some were. The company does try to provide a good working and respectful environment. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Each day was pretty much straight forward. There were routines that had to be done daily. Other routines were done on a weekly or monthly basis. There was no stress. You just tried to get as much done as possible in your day. Accounts Receivable can be a challenging position when needing to collect payments from former patients who don't even live in your country.  I think most people who deal with Accounts Receivable would agree that collections is the worst part of the job but it must be done.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at the company is the collaborative and supportive culture. From day one, I felt welcomed and valued as part of the team. Everyone is genuinely invested in helping each other succeed, which makes it easy to tackle challenges together. On top of that, the company provides great opportunities for personal and professional growth, like mentorship programs and access to training resources. It’s been incredibly rewarding to grow alongside such a talented and motivated group of people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of the job for me is the uncertainty that comes with being in a casual position. Not always knowing how many hours I’ll work or having long-term job security can sometimes make planning ahead a bit challenging. That said, I focus on staying adaptable and doing my best every day to contribute value, which helps me manage those uncertainties.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The atmosphere at work is casual, professional and friendly, which makes it easy to build strong relationships with coworkers. Even though everyone takes their responsibilities seriously, the vibe is laid-back, but very professional, and very welcoming. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day for me starts with most importantly reviewing tasks and priorities for the day. I spend most of my time handling paperwork, scheduling, or managing inventory. Throughout the day, I collaborate with other team member, and respond to any immediate needs. By the end of the shift, I make sure everything is completed and ready for the next day.

Most lab sites in Interior Health are chronically understaffed. It gets better or worse in waves, but years after I have left I still hear from former coworkers that staffing levels are causing burnout. You will be getting harassed by stressed nurses and doctors while you try to do the work of 2 people and then management will come to blame you for problems caused by their poor organization while also asking you to stay late and pick up shifts (if you are not being mandated already). Heck, an attempt to switch departments or job sites will often be sabotaged by your boss so they can keep you trapped where you are, not that they will make any attempt to retain you as a staff member beyond that.

It doesn't help that the salary is not enough for the cost of living in any interior city/town, though somehow the pay is still better than the more urban B.C. health authorities closer to the coast. MLTs complain about not saving enough to buy property, MLAs complain about not having money after rent, Lab Clerks complain about not being able to afford rent.

This isn't anything unusual in Canadian healthcare. You will hear similar things from anyone working in a hospital today and honestly my job was not as bad as my review makes it sound. But if you are considering taking work in Interior Health, why not deal with the same problems somewhere that pays better?


Interior Health is truly the best employer that I have come across so far. This is a place you will find truly supportive management, great teammates and great experiences. The salary in Home Support starts a little less than a facility, but is so worth it in experience and the opportunity to be creative and adventure beyond a hospital like setting. The idea alone of helping people stay in their homes as long as possible is a positive feeling for a worker and a client. This is not a job for the faint of heart. You need a little creativity, equipment and tools are not neatly set out for you and that is what I would say is the is one challenge to the job. Another downside, is getting past the casual position. It is a hard slug making a living with casual hours until a position becomes available. Because you typically work alone in the community on a daily basis, the company has put in safety check ins. This ensures, that you are accounted for during your day. This is a company who is concerned for your safety. I would strongly recommend this work to anyone who is creative, likes to drive, and has a strong desire to help others.

Managers do not follow union rules at all.
1- In Grand Forks BC Theirs a Manager That believes The Union Should Not Be Followed, and makes you suffer for not being a part of their clicks. From Grand Forks BC to BeaverDell is a terrifying experience.

2- Violence through out Midway BC and Managers are okay with it.

3- You are told they  only use shift call ins from automated phone services, but surprise you with full shifts weeks above full time and say you have to. Which is well documented.

4- Grand Forks BC admins are fired and forced to quit on a continuous basis to fool the next group of admins.

5- Some  Boundary offices people are abused quite badly mentally and there are many many open investigations.

6- This company does not respect you in any way, like it states in there ads, you are used by current grand forks bc area manager of the admins.
7- Speak up against the abuse of this company. Just accept a position in Grand Forks Through Beaverdell and You will be a victim as well. 

Before signing up with them ask about current investigations into unfair treatments and such.

Much of leadership has stepped away from the Frontline and doesn't prioritize patient care or the needs of staff. Challenges frequently arise with leaders who do not have clinical backgrounds or the qualifications for their roles. Good leaders are often punished and in a manner that is obvious to staff around them, it is hard to watch those who advocate be treated so poorly. Peers will wait until coverage of leadership comes from another site because they trust that leader to help, knowing that they can't trust on site leadership. The leaders who protect us are few and punished - some staff would rather commute and took positions to be under different leadership that left. I used to have an amazing manager who got promoted and left, I miss their kindness and passion.
The highest levels will block information from getting to the ceo and hide significant concerns.
Not all sites are the same and some are much better than where I work, which is why you can see where people follow. My advice is work for one of the few great leaders that care about patients and staff - the few we do have are incredible.

Working here reminded me how higher levels of management are unappreciative, disrespectful, disgusting & manipulative snakes! 

If ur not in the “click” then u don’t deserve respect as per experience. As soon as u stick up for urself, just number ur days. They won’t fire u because it’s union but know that any enjoyment u got from the job will slowly dwindle away due to the unprofessional and arrogant attitude and behaviour of management. It’s great for those people that aren’t qualified and wanna work though. They will hire u even if u don’t meet the qualifications based on what the position requires sadly. All you need to do is be a friend of a manager and they will give you the job. You’re not supported by ur union even and excuses are made up. Everyone knows what goes on but no one will talk for the reasons I just mentioned because they need their jobs at a time where the country’s inflation is skyrocketing.  Highly NOT recommended! 

This job was a unique undercover experience in which I had to attempt to buy cigarettes from every retailer in the north Okanagan. Since I was underage at the time, if they sold to me they were breaking the law and would be subject to a fine. I had to write down the features of the person who sold to me so that they could be later charged with the offense. I also had to insure that they had the proper signage and concealed their tobacco products from view. The coworkers were great. We would just listen to music in the car driving from store to store and stop for lunch halfway through the day. The hardest part of the job was dealing with people who were mad at me for trying to buy cigarettes. One clerk said I was banned from the SuperStore gas bar for life but he didn't own it and I've been back there since. The most enjoyable part was catching people selling to me who were known to sell to minors often and knowing that they would be properly fined to their actions.

I have worked as a community care aide for over 8 years,and from all that hard work all i have gotten is a measly 6 hr a day 4 day a week posting,horrible schedulers who have absolutely no clue about simple logistics,no decent postings available,clueless managers and supervisors who do not stay long anyways,drive your vehicle into the ground for very little in the way of compensation,you just like the clients are just a name and number..latest is trying to recruit new hires with a shiny outdated electronic bauble..A.K.A Iphone 6 or hopefully retain those already there with same bauble..you know what would retain employees..better postings than 0.01 F.T.E..that is an absolute insult almost as much of an insult for what they pay to wreck your vehicle I would never recommend working for these clowns especially community care..have a lot more to say but they will just do the copy and paste canned response they always do..someone making good money to sit in front of a pc and do nothing really..worst place to work ever!!
