Iron Ore

Management is being kept in the dark. It's not what you know or are capable of it's who you know. They don't have enough people to run the project to it's full potential but they think less is better even though the numbers prove them wrong. The employees know it, the supervisors know it, middle management knows it but upper management have no idea and middle management will go on getting their raises and bonuses for keeping the number of employees down even though it's costing the company a small fortune. They aren't at all concerned about losing their experienced people.  There is no legacy planning. They don't want to hear the truth because it will mean they have to actually do something. There is no such thing as doing a job right the first time, it's "meet the time line, regardless of the consequences. No trust in their people. Respectful workplace only applies to the hourly employees.  They promote or reward based on how much behind you kiss rather than on merit. They promote out of province people ahead of people from the province and actually fly them in at extra cost when we have the expertise here in town. The company operates a port in Quebec with only three pieces of equipment. They are a tiny part of the operation but the majority of the senior staff are from Quebec. They keep replacing the Newfoundlanders with the French. Flying in tractor operators for snow clearing!!! in the rail yard while I'm sitting watching our jobs go to Quebec.  The employees are all aware of it and harbor great resentment because of it. The company could increase their revenue by %50 just by letting the hourly employees run the company. The people they put in place to run the actual operations  have no understanding of the work place, the actual process or limitations of the equipment and or how to optimize it. But they do have lots of meetings so everything should be ok and the company will prosper....until we completely fail and close.

This was a new company starting up and had many employees who may not have been ready for the demands which it was set to meet. 

The management and software were not correctly put into place before the business began. With that, there came many challenges of ensuring the correct product was on hand when the customers requested. it. The management in place we not educated in the product they were selling and therefore could not meet the expectations of the customer.

I enjoyed all the work I did with IOCC. Everyday was a routine, everyone in the operator/maintainer (laborer) class was trained in more than one area in which required different skills, both physical work as well as operating certain pieces of equipment that doesn't require more than a class 5 license.  Air brakes is also a asset I have.

very challenging place to work . i thought working in paper mill was same as working in mine ,was i ever wrong pump is a pump not so .very big difference i was blown away with difference coming from union background to management it was a eye opener .i have been at this now 10 years .

I also work on those big diesel electric truck 120 ton and also 180 tons and fun to drive too.

Worst place a supervisor could ever work. The upper management is  very transient and never seems to have a long term plan. The front line supervisors are left with very little direction. Probably one of the worst managed mine sites in Canada!!!

I worked as a student process technician studying and testing the mill operation for iron ore processing. The wages and benefits were good but the working conditions were poor due to high dust levels in the mill. The work was interesting and the shift was Monday to Friday dayshift.

seems a lot of management , are on a power trip. some not all . ioc claims to treaty their employees with dignity and respect when in fact they harass and bully and intimidate , make no wonder so many deal with depression .

Iron ore mine.  Working here has had ups and downs but has provided a great life.   I have 29 1/2 years experience working In multiple areas throughout my career.  If you are desiring change this is a place to eork

I had an amazing summer working as a summer student at the Iron Ore Company of Canada. I was placed in the Central Warehouse on the transport crew. The foremen and other employees were great to work with and they made the summer much more enjoyable.
