Do risk assessments of tasks to be performed that day and make plan to carry out work safely and efficiently in conjunction with management team. The most enjoyable part of the job was the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the work day. Also important to set good example for new employees so as to entrench a work culture that advances safety and productivity. As we all must realize that our personal success goes hand in hand with The Company's success. Safety and productivity will become a permanent fixture with a company if the right culture is encouraged, it will become automatic. The same can be said of bad habits if they are accepted and not challenged. To everything there is a positive and a negative, I say, "Accentuate the positive."

On a positive note in my role I get a lot of freedom to manage my daily and weekly tasks.

There is a lack of direction generally speaking from senior leaders in this company and decisions take a long time to get made or not at all - no decision. This can make it frustrating to set any sort of strategic goals.

Most people have good work ethic, and will want to work with you however definitely quite a few people that are miserable. Some things are a constant uphill battle.

Support services like IT are very slow, some people don't have the computer network access or hardware to do their jobs properly. It can take a few months to get set up. 

A lot of the operational and maintenance basics are missing. 

On a daily basis we monitored all vehicle traffic speeding & vehicle checks to deter theft. Did regular perimeter patrols to enforce all company policies, procedures,  safety protocols  to ensure employees & contractors adhered to all guidelines. Available at a moments notice to respond to all emergency calls for fires, accidents, ambulance services, rescue calls for high angle rescue or confined space.

Management changes quickly at IOC some for the good and some for the other. I experienced the latter, this caused me to move within the organization. I was supported in my second role at IOC and saw room for advancement. However life plans change and so did my location. Great place for a young family that want to get ahead quickly!

I worked with Iron Ore Company of Canada for two summers as a labour. It was a very well paying job. They really value safety which is great. They supplied me with whatever i needed regards to work gear. The most enjoyable part of the job was I got to work independently at times. I also worked night shifts at times with this job which I found good. Overall this was a great job.

I worked there for  24 years   and retired early to be with my family  in the western  provinces. IOC  was great to work for  very safe  and very professional..I've been working  all over Canada  from the Yukon  to shefferville  Quebec..You will never recieve  the respect for a job well  done   from another  employee  like the iocc  group.

Working as a maintenance Electrician My duties include; Maintainer Operator, Installing and servicing 4160/7200 Volt equipment, Instrumentation, Calibrations and Troubleshooting. I have to prioritize all my daily tasks that are assigned to me so I can finish in a timely manner.

Loading and off loading trains with supplies and vehicles.
Learned self motivation and the ability to do work at my own pace but still stay on track with time limits.
The supervisors were very nice and due to the small group of workers, it felt like a family.

Especially great if you are living in Labrador city. Overall a good place to make a great living. Management are supportive and respectful. Could use some improvement in the fly in fly out side of the business if intent is to keep employees for the long term. Overall I would suggest to anyone to join IOC !!

Meeting your team and scheduling work to be done safely every day was a plus. Management gave me many ways to improve the way we work with co-workers. The hardest part of the job was when an employee hurt themselves. The best part of the day was when all employees returned home safe and sound after a hard day.
