My typical day as a visual merchandising associate would start at 7 a.m. When I was hired to do this job I had no retail experience but the hiring manager believed my previous experience would be ideal for the position. I learned to be a visual merchandiser as I usually received shipment and had to work on the display if the merchandise. I also took care of the markdowns and anything that was related to merchandising.
When I was done with that I normally worked on the floor to sell. I enjoyed interacting with the customers and getting comfortable each day! My sales were as good as the associates that had worked for the company longer than I and mostly in the top 3.
The most enjoyable part of this job was when customers that I helped left the store satisfied with my service and help. That always made my day.
When I was a fashion design student I knew I wanted to work in the industry but not as a designer. I feel sales is something that I was meant to do- I enjoy customer service and the creative side of it so much.

Working here is really great, the team at the location I work at is always welcoming and fun to work with. A typical day as a sales associate includes greeting customers, answering questions about merchandise, inventory checking for customers, maintaining the sales floor, and closing down the store by folding the entire store. The hardest part about this job is dealing with certain customers who feel like they are entitled to everything, folding, sizing, and edging every pile of clothing within an hour or two after closing, meeting sales goals when there are barely enough customers in the store while having Very Personal Stylists (AKA senior sales associates who have top priority) selling to most of the customers. The most enjoyable part of this job is the work environment, people are very friendly.

Overall, I enjoyed being at JCrew. Taking sales calls after awhile gets old and frustrating. The customers aren't always nice and it can be stressful. The company luncheons and surprise pizza days, incentives, snacks etc were a plus. Who doesn't love free food. Certain departments can definitely use some work with management and managerial skills. Even when you move to a speciality team(not taking sales calls) you are still placed in overflow to take sales calls. In addition to completing your work assignments for your specific team or department. Which is pretty much impossible when you're receiving calls back to back. 
Unfortunately, JCrew cant keep sales workers. And that makes it harder for others who are no longer apart of the sales floor. But still have to take calls to assist with the call volume.

This job was an amazing experience, everyday was different but you had your regulars who are in love with the brand. You are able to go to management and get scheduling issues resolved. the only thing is after three years it became stagnant for some individuals and it was because management started to favour different individuals, that was out in the open and many people ended their careers there because of it. But jcrew is a strong company with great training, opened up many opportunities as small as being able to change a light bulb in the changing rooms to processing shipments in and out with a great stock manager. Ive gotten to dabble in the visual merchandising time and did overnights when new seasons came in. This company solidified my passion for the retail industry.

Worked for the company for almost two years and when I started management was great, but unfortunately that changed. Very little room for growth and shifts become incredibly infrequent. Rather than give hours to the staff that ask for it, managers over hire and then ponder why they have such a large turnover rate. 

Managers also hound daily/hourly sales goals and place a lot of pressure on the associates, yet schedule based solely on who they like to the most. Getting hours is really just based on how high you rank in the stores popularity contest. Additionally managers hook up/date sales associates which gives them priority and creates a super weird work environment. Would not recommend.

Lot of activities and company led events. No benefits though. Pay was not great but the gave pay reviews often so that could get better. The dress code was exhausting so you’d be better off buying a set uniform and sticking to that every day. They give you an allowance for clothing for a uniform when you start so that’s good. But they do that thing where they give you no shifts as an old employee but hire new people and give them more shifts. Idk if it’s to push you out but I quit after that.

When I started at J.Crew I really enjoyed working there, however as management changed it became clear that their employees did not matter to them. I found it had become a very negative work environment where, employees were bullying other employees in hopes of advancement of their own careers, to the point of that there would be employees crying and the management did nothing but support those who were in the wrong. In the end there was not enough hours for a person to survive on and the managers were simply unprofessional and childlike.

Love going in and seeing the new merchandise. Customer base is nice and easy to work with. Have enjoyed working there for almost two years,
but so many associates are hired for Summer (college kids) and Seasonal
that the permanent part time associates are overlooked hour-wise and newer or even temporary associates are given all the hours.
I go from working 5 straight days for a 27 hour week to a 4 hour week.
This is the main flaw in working at J.Crew Factory Mayfair Collection.

I worked in one of the stores in Canada. Management would make the schedules based on how much they liked a person, giving friends more/ better shifts. There were targets to be met per shift that did bring out the competitive side of folks. I did meet some really great people working there. Overall it was a great store to work in if you had an a-type personality and became friends with managers. The employee discount was very generous and customers were on average very nice and pleasant.

same as any retail position, whatever they can get away with. Higher management sucks.
company is going downhill with the finance difficulties and investor buyouts. too many positions were eliminated and the company is not running correctly, especially distribution and allocations which are necessary for any retail establishment to be successful
