What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
For management, there is very little time to complete tasks and daily responsibilities because more than half the time they are on the floor covering as a regular cashier and helping recover. Then there is no hours for the part time floor associates.  Part time associates are also given random hours with no consistency. It’s hard to balance work with daily life because shift are so random and inconsistent.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Dull. Stressful. Demanding and unrewarding.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wait for customers, ring them up. Clean the store and recover. Help with store sets, help bring out merchandise, help complete operational tasks, help manager and supervisor with their visual and merchandising tasks. Get customers to sign up for credit cards and rewards.

It's basically high school all over, there's the popular table, if you make it to that table you're good. If not... Have fun doing everyone elses job, and being criticized for not doing it well enough, daily. 
There's no room for growth, promotions are not based on seniority, reliability or even performance, just popularity.
Last of all CREDIT CREDIT CREDIT, you are only as good as your last credit application, if you can't give this company atleast 3 credit applications per shift .. you're worthless, and not only will they remind you if that, but your "appraisal" will also be determined based on how many credit apps you took during the year. 

I found the schedule to be very good. I would arrive at work and having had excellent training when I started with J.C. Penney, Inc. I would know exactly what was expected of me daily. All of the breaks which were allotted by law were strictly adhered to by the company. Management was very easy to communicate with and managers had a heart for the employees daily success. Co-workers were very friendly and many friendships were formed amongst them. The most difficult part of the job came when there was a very rare customer complaint. Usually the customer complaining had a rough day elsewhere and they were easily calmed as a result. The most enjoyable part of the job came, when you saw the customer smile because they were truly thankful for the help they received from you.

Every JCP will be different, yet you will find that the advancement opportunities are not very pronounced. No one I knew actually ever went very high up the ladder, but, that said, most minimum wage jobs won't foster upwards mobility.

So, this place might not qualify as career producing from the bottom up, but you might be able to move up if you know someone or are very social--I am a medium introvert :( .

Three stars because I think JCP needs to be more employee focused, without pampering the employee. This generally means if you work and sell well, there should be opportunities to promote from within.

You will be able to learn how to navigate stressful, rude customers and be able to apply that experience/situation in other areas of life or other jobs. You develop great customer service skills and practice your communication/social skills. Management was fantastic. Management is very personable, professional and funny. All in all, I highly recommended it. If you are fresh out of high school or need a part time as an older adult. Made life long friends from there as well. 

Management will NOT hesitate to punish their employees for not meeting their personal credit card application goal. Whether that be through not getting any hours or being flat out disrespected.

After being hired they refused to comply with my condition of employment, which was to work around my current job.

There are plenty of reasons why JCPenneys is, and should, go out of business.

Great Co. and lots of great associates. Everyone works hard and really cares about what's going on. Unfortunatley, the new CEO has cut costs and people so much that moral and sense of stability are lost. Hopefully, JCP will regain its footing. The changes are all very exciting, but transitioning is rough.

I have a lot to tell, I started in costume service and as a cashier and then I worked on commission in costumes until I got pregnant and I must admit that I really enjoyed it.  It was a great experience!!!!

I enjoyed working as part of the drapery department at JC Penney. This was a great start for me into the world of draperies, fabric and hard window treatments. I learned much from my managers and suppliers. I had a number of repeat clientele, which as a young designer meant the world to me. This is a great company that I wish many more years of success to.

JC Penny is a culturally diverse business that is all about diversity and inclusion.  I enjoy coming to work and the day to day job functions are always a fun challenge. I always feel accomplished at the end of a work day and look forward to coming into work.  I love the team aspect of JC Penny.
