What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The peers are the worst. you work with people who don’t want you to have a positive outcome and the company makes sure to have new people wear orange so you’re instantly disregarded as anything important. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hot work area like super hot with minimal conditioning & that’s during the winter.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
7AM-7PM move cores to areas needed, apply tape then epoxy while identifying any potential damage to the cores, remove metal plates that were bounding them,

They treat there employees very badly 
They work them way too much and “have no room for failure.“ They say that they can move you to another department or even another building if you mess up or are not good at what you were hired to do and then they never do they just let you go instead. Every day for the last two months of my contract I asked how I was doing and what I can improve on to make sure that I did not get fired. I kept being told I am doing a good job and cannot figure out why I got fired anyways. The whole reason I asked for feedback on how I was doing was because I wanted to avoid getting let go. I would recommend to anyone who is trying or would like to apply to JFE Shoji Power Canada Inc.  do not apply instead try and look for a job somewhere else

Management is awful, they just hire their friends with zero schooling or certificates to fill out their important roles. Ie. Flow leader. 2/3 supervisors have no idea what they are doing. They have hired people back who have stolen from the company on multiple occasions, not just back either, they gave that person a team leader position. They don’t treat new employees that well at all. It’s a situation where it’s constantly rush rush rush because that’s what they want and they’re never actually thankful for anything their employees do, they just expect more. This would be a very good company to work for if they changed out about 75% of the management/office.

I don't dread heading into my shifts at JSC! There is always someone or something in place to help you succeed. Everything from carpools to colleagues, supervisors and management always willing to take the time to explain, answer and assist in anything you need. I was pretty intimidated my first day (as i never worked at a manufacturing facility before) but my trainer made me feel so comfortable with my surroundings, the  buildings and equipment as well as all the safety precautions in place to avoid injuries or accidents. 
They do a great job of making everyone who is apart of the JSC team feel happy and proud of where they work and what they do. 

I finally found my forever job.



Work duties fairly simple and understanding. Unfortunately was put into an unfounded position of being accused of sleeping or dating a member of management from another member if management. Complete unsubstantiated gossip that forced me out of place of work that was paying my bills and literally the food on my children's table, I am the only provider for my 2 kids and not once was that even cared or considered in this toxic and patheticwork environment.  Absolute scumbags at cogent power.(not using caps on the company spelling is completely intentional due to a lack of respect for cogent)

I have been with the company for over 20 years.  I have been fortunate to be able to advance in this company over my time here.   I have worked in many departments within JFE.  JFE has provided various types of training to help us be successful in our positions.  I have been part of the Ups and Downs and feel we are on a positive trend in the right direction.   the wage is competitive. benefits are good.  with some recently added incentives to help with rising costs in our personal lives.  Annual family events (Kids Christmas Party, family day event at well known attractions....).  

I've been working for JFE for 16 years and started working in a department called tear down. I moved up through the company doing various positions, Team leader, Forming/Tranco, Shipping/Receiving. All jobs require some sort ability to do but it's all manageable if you have the willingness to work. 

Working the 12 hour rotation for me was bit of a challenge but everyone handles it differently. The plus side is you only work 14 days of a month and some times the holidays you will get off but that is at the pull of our customers.

Safety is our number one policy here and the company takes it seriously.

Manager is fine, generally reasonable and helpful. 

The company was acquired by JFE and changed name from Cogent to  JFE Shoji, there was some change in the policy which conflicted with how the older employees used to work, and that caused some confusion and dissatisfaction. 

Schedule is 12hr work day, where you work day shift for 2 weeks, then change to night shift for 2 weeks, which might be tough for some people.

Coworkers are very friendly and tries their best to help, answer questions when you ask, respect each other as well.

Some mixed feelings, as I was only a summer employee. I will say that it's a pretty casual environment with friendly people and coworkers, and the repetitiveness of tasks is actually enjoyable, because you can eventually operate on autopilot almost.  I have worked there 4 summers in a row, and it's one of the only jobs I've enjoyed. The management - for the most part - actually care about the workers as People and not just as Employees. The one thing that I didn't enjoy was that we were scheduled on every stat holiday.  Apart from that, I'd recommend JFE as a decent place to work.

I have been employed at JFE Shoji Power Canada (formally Cogent Power Inc) since 2013. I have worked in many different areas of the plant and it is been a very rewarding experience to say the least. Great team environment where we are all working towards the same goal. Celebrating the wins and losses at every corner and milestone, constantly improving and helping each other grow on the way. We work 12 hour continental shifts and a strong work ethic and physical aptitude is needed. If this is something that interests you, then this is the place for you!
