It was overall a pretty nice time there but I believe it all has to do with the position you have there. I had a higher position and therefore had a slightly better experience.  Over the recent 2 years I have been there, it was great, but it started to not be that great due to the concert series coming into fruition. The concert series did not have a great planning from the start and was all over the place. After that, the employees and the workplace culture went down in the negative light it seemed. The new HR people that joined were basically firing people left to right and seemed that they  wanted all new staff except for the head leadership and management. There was definitely a new change that came there. Hopefully, now its starting to be better because of everything but they are still in a slow incline of improving things at the moment. Just keep an eyes out when applying and being there. 

Also they got new housing in the port carling area so it might be a fixer upper. If possible, find a better place when you gain friends there and get a place with the same timing in the same department with a car. Groceries in port carling are expensive because of tourism so make sure you have a person that can drive you in surrounding areas such as Bracebridge, Gravenhurst or Huntsville. 

When I was there, the management seemed reactive and not proactive.  Besides management, everyone gets to know each other and loves to hang out outside of work. Good place to work in the summer especially. Everyone always will work together especially go to other departments to help each other out if they get stuck in the weeds as the hotel is very fast-paced. 

Please be warned that you cannot really access the facilities that they offer to normal guests. It is at a luxury standard so please be aware of that as they have guests first over the employees. Something to think about going into or applying to the job. 

Worked there for 5 months over the summer and made a ton of money, keep in mind in August I worked over 100 hours overtime, sometimes 10-14 hours a day. 

I made friends that I'll take with me for the rest of my life, and on my days off we'd go out on the lake to their cottages and enjoy Muskoka. However, this was quickly offset by the fact that the management was manipulative, took advantage of you every chance they could, and tons of favouritism. It was rare that you would get your time-off requests approved. Some people would skip work without calling in sick on multiple occasions and not face any consequences, but others would do the same once and be threatened of termination. Management only focused on negatives, and never recognized you for your accomplishments. You could be the best at your job, but to them, you're just a number! The only reason to bust your butt working long hours for them, is seeing your tip envelopes at the end of your shift. The average guest who go to the JW Marriott are high-end individuals/families who expect luxury service, and they will pay you accordingly. 

The kitchen staff were so unequipped, as a server you gained strong problem solving skills, as guests were ALWAYS complaining. Food often took at least 30 minutes - 1 hour to come out at a mediocre quality at best. You can't blame them though, all three restaurants operated from the same kitchen as banquets! 

I lived in staff housing with other young adults (early 20s). If you're older, I highly recommend you find a place in Port Carling or Gravenhurst. Staff housing was comparable to a college dorm setting or hostel - tons of partying...and bunk beds.

If you're looking for a fun summer to make lots of money! Work here! Don't expect much either than that.

Firstly, while looking at staff housing, we were not sent any photos or information about what the room entails. While moving three hours I expected to be accommodated more, although we had to email multiple times desperately asking to view the housing. Which seemed to be an inconvenience to the housing managers even though we were the ones having to take time off of work and school to drive all that way just to know what we were signing for. Upon the tour it was obvious that the housing was inadequate and that they weren’t showing it for a reason.

While we were brought in early on a busy weekend, we were promised prior training and training the following week on slower days. 2 months later we had still not yet received proper training.. Overall, the management and department is highly disorganized. 
The products such as the polishes are old and not up to standard. Also, while working for over a month, we were out of the most important products needed to provide a variety of services. Meanwhile, clients are paying an expensive amount for knock off treatments as we do not have the appropriate products. 

Lastly, the standards and expectations for working at the “luxurious” JW Marriott have been substantially disorganized, stressful, and unprofessional for such a big name in the industry.

This was by far the worse job I have ever had to work. The living conditions for staff housing are disgusting and completely inhumane, not to mention the resort charged people to live in them. To put simply, if you like: 
-unsafe drinking water
-unsafe structural foundations
-sharing a room small and crammed roomed with 3+ people
-bed bugs
-cockroaches
-mice
-poor/no internet connection

then this is the place for you. 

On top of that, I am fully convinced that they do and will hire anyone they can because the resort is so understaffed. I was absolutely astonished at how highly regarded HR and managers made this workplace out to be. We were constantly reminded to treat the guests as if they were royalty, but when it came down to it, upper management and all authoritative employees treated seasonal staff like garbage. I am actually ashamed to say that I have worked at the 'JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa' so much so that I even left it off my resume. The resort itself is beautiful but it is run off the backs of mistreated employees and it is an absolute disgrace to the JW name. I highly recommend not accepting a position there as you will be treated like trash. 20/10 would not recommend to anyone.

Days varied in terms of hours. I worked at all the outlets here as well as banquet serving. The outlets were fine and the hours were not too long, but when I worked banquets I would often work 14 hour shifts or longer. Such as 2pm to 4am and were not allowed to leave until everything was done. They would also schedule you to work until 12-2 in the morning then you would be scheduled the next  morning at 7am. I think they were severely understaffed and if they had more staff this problem would not arise. The management was decent although there were so many of them, they would not even notice if someone didn't show up for a shift. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to live in Muskoka and work in such a beautiful work environment. I think with better staffing and better management this job would have been amazing but it just wasn't.

A typical day at work for me as a housekeeper involves arriving at work and having a discussion as a team in the housekeeping department about the days ahead and plans for preparation. Before I can actually begin my work I must stock and prepare my housekeeping cart and ensure it is in an appealing shape as I take it out into the halls to assist with room cleaning and preparation. There is a wide diversity of culture at the hotel with people from all around the world working there and I enjoy getting to know everyone. The hardest part about my job is attempting to clean my assigned amount of rooms by the end of the day before I have to leave. The most enjoyable part of my job is meeting and learning about the cultures of others working in the hotel and also interacting with guests.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I’m love the people that I work with and I love the people I serve. I was recently awarded with the LQA Excellence Award and I would not have been able to achieve this award without the support and encouragement from Leadership and my colleagues. From Senior Leaders to new hires. It’s the best place to work. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is nothing stressful. Your career is how to you make it. If you choose to be your best everyday, your work ethics will follow.

Amazing! Great people, friendly, knowledgeable and supportive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fun, happy, fast, luxurious!. My days again are how I make them. I am always looking for ways to make my days and my coworkers days the best they can be!

The benefits of working for this company are nil and none.

The Senior Management Team have so many inconsistency, and bicker between themselves. Never knowing if the Human Resource Managers are going to accuse or assault

Not professional at all, no structure and they don’t provide staff with a safe working environment or equipment

They were very underhanded people who were knowingly cheating the workers at the bottom of the pecking order out of about a hundred bucks a week while smiling and assuring us they cared just because the awful inn they had us living at wasn't cost efficient. It's illegal to charge more than 15~ish dollars a week if the rooms are shared and meals aren't provided yet they were charging if I recall correctly about 80 dollars a week, close to the maximum they are legally allowed to charge if the rooms are solo and meals are provided. The inn was a dump and a safety hazard on a good day, run down and cramped. Do not work there if they have you staying at the Bala Bay Inn.

This is by far the most amazing company anyone would ever want to work for! The environment is all about striving and working together to provide people with the greatest experience of their lives. Management become friends, easy to talk to, accomodating, and they truly take pride in and appreciate their employess. The only downside is the long hours, which are made up for by the fact that you become close friends with every coworker, and going to work doesn't seem like a chore at all.
