Got into this company thru my dad. Worked with him doing general labor ex. Sorting thru product, cleaning, general repairs. It was long days of doing the same thing day in and day out but the pay was good for just getting out of high-school.5 months later advanced too being a excavator operator in Hamilton, again thru my dad but I no longer worked with him. After 6 months got "promoted" to supervisor, same pay just more responsibility,8 months later I never went back at the start of the season. Reasons, well they work with a loyalty system meaning the longer you've been there the more money you make. So a man in his 50s working there for his whole life was making more money than me while doing the "same" job. He was  making over 10 dollars more than me an hour. Since he was my senior, tho he had the same job title as me, i had to listen to him or be fired. So he would just pawn his work off to me.

A typical at James Dick construction does not happen very often most of the time the crushing plants are broke down due to wear and tear.. I have learned many thing that include operating many forms of heavy equipment and maintenance on the crushing plants.
The management is alright as long as everything is going to plan.. the co workers are great people i have learned a great deal of skills from them. the hardest part of the job is the stress of the economy. the best part is the many different skills that a person can learn.

nothing good about it. Don't care about anything but money

load counts. did I do enough or did I kiss the person's behind

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
suck ups always win. If you are brown you get away with anything

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
unorganized. management to busy stabbing each other in the to worry about jobs at hand. no communication

I've been with this company for 14 years.  For the most part it's a good place to work. We get a raise every year and we have full benefits.  The only problem I find is that the company doesn't appreciate their employees.  There's no loyalty . There have been people there for 25 years and when they feel it's time for you to go , your gone. Also there's a lot of favoritism and no seniority list. The equipment is better than it had been in the past years but still not up to par.

The managers are armatures and not very professional at this place. They are not use to diverse cultures and different races. The pay rate is not worth the work out in as an AZ driver. Very disorganized leadership and don’t listen and try to understand and relate back to their employees. 

Very well respected in the industry as a key ready-mix and aggregate producer in the greater GTA. The one thing when you work for a family owned business is you better spend the money wisely. This was a very hands on career with a lot of time being spent on job sites and in offices finding new business. The sales and operations people were to notch and a pleasure to work for.

Good hrs good pay and everyone got along

Nights and other vehicles on road

Excellent maintenance team and supervisors

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hrs shift work and on your own

Stressful environment and management taking the side of people that are rude and obnoxious.   Also it feels like management just wants the job to be done and they don’t really care about the employee whether you’re sick or not unless you are in the hospital hooked up to machines then maybe management will have a heart

Was no proper training, management just want things done in their way to favor certain staff.  When questioned about anything tend to freak out, even though your just trying to learn.  The other staff in dispatch will stab you in the back before you can even finish turning around.  From my first day I had staff whispering rumors in my ear about other members of the team.

I really enjoyed working with James Dick Construction. I wish I was able to stay, but I needed more hours and it was a bit of a slow time for them. Would go back if I still lived in the area.
