Jiffy Lube

A typical day at work included guiding vehicles into the shop without them driving into the open pit (which was sometimes a challenge as customers would sometimes not pay attention to the signalling you would give them). Entering data about the current status of the vehicle after making the standard and optional checks. Draining the oil from the vehicle and changing the oil filter. Refilling the oil and doing the transmission oil level check while vehicle is running. Any other services required based on checks such as topping up air in the tires, flushing coolant/transmission/power steering systems, cleaning windows, and oiling hood/ door hinges where necessary. After all services were done the customer would be billed out and goodbyes said. As well there would be stocking the 3 bays with shop rags and filters as well as ensuring all tools used were wiped clean after each use. Every couple days we would give the floors a good scrubbing, as well there would be an order of oil, filters, and other supplies that would need to be put away. The hardest part of the job would have been the days where we would have maybe a 4 or 5 hour rush of course where you would just have to work your butt off with no break, although I would consider this the hardest aspect of the job it was also one of the most enjoyable as it would make the day go by quite quickly and most of the customers were a pleasure to work for. There wasn't really a big difference between management and regular employees in the shop. The major difference being management would be who you would seek out when not sure how to go about a certain circumstance or problem you were facing. Which would happen occasionally with the variety of vehicles and things people would ask us to help them with (for example I once had a customer ask me who the blackberry specialist was so we could help him hook up his phone to his car using bluetooth) although I had never used a blackberry in my life I knew how easy it was to set up bluetooth and jumped on the opportunity to help him out. I learned many varying aspects of the up-keep of vehicles while working at this lube shop.

The location I was at (Dec 1st 2016 - Jan 15th 2017) was a decent place to work, but not the best. 

Management was horrible (micro-managed, expected ALL types of tasks/jobs to be done in a minimal amount of time) and the staff/co-workers were OK to help or train. Sad part was that the experienced techs weren't the greatest at helping during a rush or any good at multi-tasking. Asking questions during a rush was not always a good thing, but asking after was decent because it would be explained. 

However, certain services and answers were questionable or could be found to be questionable if, you had basic training and/or schooling. An example: coolant transmission flushes. Tranny flushes weren't necessarily done properly and coolant flushes is something you don't exactly do. At least not the way it's done at Jiffy Lube. 

Also, doing tire repairs and tire switches were VERY questionable. Having worked in a tire shop, some of the practices for tires was not exactly the greatest. Example: using tire plugs ONLY & ALWAYS putting in 35psi of air in the Winter tires. Doing the latter apparently helped with fuel milage, which was a new practice for me & a head-scratcher.

Have worked there for about 1 and a half years. Learned the hard way that no matter how hard you work & no matter how much time, effort, and passion you put into this place. You aren't valued and respected as you should.

$18 seems like a good pay, but when you work your body off like no tomorrow constantly every week 5 days a week and you deal with RUDE customers who act like they know what they're talking about 
( If they did they would be doing it themselves ) AND ON TOP OF THAT deal with UPPER MANAGEMENT that keep you reeling you in with "Benefits" that are never given & "Raises" is the word that they toss at ALL the staff to just keep you wanting to stay. 

The only benefit you get is experience in the field and learning how low your standards can get.

The only raise you'll be getting is probably in your depression pills for the lack of sanity you get for being at this place.

Honestly tho, me and the staff always did our best, but just imagine constantly being watched and nagged at by UPPER MANAGEMENT everyday.

Work is about making money & gaining experience, and the only way you're going to keep your sanity is by having fun, bonding with people, but apparently we aren't allowed to do that.


I wonder if Jiffy Lube has ever tried coming in and looking at this bushiness cause they should, its ridiculous.

I am very grateful for Jiffy Lube and Mr Lube because theses were by far my hardest jobs. this industry is hard labor, fast paced, think on your feet, bad weather conditions, etc. 
I learned how to talk to people here, i also learned the art of persuasion as well as how to talk down temperamental costumers.  
the management for this industry is usually unstable from my experience, they dismiss employee desires and often rights, and the benefits do not compensate for the amount of work that is done. 
the hardest part is meeting with unrealistic expectations, wither it is a sales goal, hours worked etc. 
we sometime receive free lunches, however these are due to circumstances when we are to busy to receive proper breaks. the lunches are supposed to compensate for lack of breaks, 
I make it a point to learn as much as i can to make this job more enjoyable. so i did learn how to think differently, how same cars for example can have the same problem but require different responses. Sometimes we get bonus with our pay, but management can withhold it without notice.

I would maintain shop cleanliness and help around and learn new things such as tire rotation whenever I can. 

When a customer would come, I would guide them to the pit and ask what would they want serviced and I would recommend any other services when necessary such as, their blown out tail light. 

I management and co workers to be too lenient as they would leave me un attended, I didn't mind as I would always make myself busy, but if it were someone else, it would allowed them to slack off.

Guiding the cars to the pit was the hardest part of the job as the responsibility fell into my hands and thus I would have to pay for the damages, and the worst were the confident customers who don't listen to the guides and drive right into the pit. Once, someone almost drove into the pit.

The most enjoyable part was that I was gaining knowledge that I can carry with me and put to use at home with our car.

I worked at this place for a month, as school drew near and I had to make some preparations for it.

Overall the work environment is slow paced 
Not enough traffic there in store
But the management is very rude and partial with the employees
They just want to do cleaning all the time 
Because owner has OCD problem 
Owner and management. Always be on camera and watching and interrupt by calling every-time.

Ad offers up to 19  any amount but they offer less than the ad shows on indeed by saying we will check for three months on provision and upgrade it but it never happened 

Plus they can fire you without giving any notice and because they get signed from you the paper which says without notice so be careful while signing any document

Additional charges for dress as well 
 
No store discount and if u purchase on their account from lordco or napa you have to give them 15 to 25 percent loyalty plus tax.


There was a great group of people working there for the most part, unfortunately the owner was never around.  He was very unethical and was actually scamming people by selling them a product that wasn't same quality they thought they purchased. Also i injured myself 3 Times and actually hurt my back so bad I was unable to get out of bed let alone go to work. They failed to follow up with my WCB claim and instead fired me. There was an alternative motive to be fired it was 4 days after I put in my 2 weeks notice, in order to receive my tips for that month and the month prior I needed to put in my notice.  This is a very shady way of receiving my tips and paying it out to the other employees, which I was worned about but I tried to do the right thing by giving my notice, because this has happened to many other x employees.

A typical work day involved either my being a hood tech, sales or work in the pit and provide maintenance services for vehicles.
The management was fair and were always present, this was best for the shop's work ethic as we all worked in a close, teamwork oriented environment.
The hardest part about the job was learning to service the vast array of vehicles that came into the shop, memorizing the parts for each and service points for each. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was the ability to work on a vast array of vehicles, some of which I would never have dreamt to have worked on. The highlight was performing maintenance work on the ghost busters car!
An amazing work experience, amazing coworkers, and a solid learning experience.

I worked at Jiffy Lube part time. I enjoyed working with my other co-workers as they were cooperative and easy to get along with. I enjoyed my time that I spent working there as I learnt many new skills and practiced as well as furthered my knowledge in the skills I already had. The most enjoyable part of my day at Jiffy Lube is working with my other co-workers and helping and satisfying the customers at the best of my ability to make sure that they are fully satisfied with the customer service and the service(s) we provided to the customer(s). I have learnt to become more patient as well as how to deal with all sorts of different customers. I have also learned how to become very organized as well as how to multi-task and do many things at once. I have great customer service experience.

So I do not recommend working here, first off you do so much work for only $15 an hour. Then they tell you you’ll get a raise after you learn a different position but then say oh I’m sorry I couldn’t get you that raise after you already started doing the work for months at a time. They also have horrible management, they expect you to work 10+ hours without a second break! And they don’t care about your personal life and just great the schedule however they want. The bosses are lazy and never leave the office to help out and leave early expecting the other employees to pick up the slack. The lunches are late the entire time you work there too. I do not recommend working here, go somewhere else if you want to learn about cars.
