Just Cozy

Beginning months the store was not that busy it’s really relaxed (other then management) but holiday months was extremely difficult and you only work alone at the kiosk so it was very stressful and anxious for everybody. We often asked management for another person because it was difficult to keep up with cash and continuously folding shelf’s of tights (customers would often mess up or dump shelves on the ground). They wouldn’t put another person on schedule and then when the shift arrived and it was to busy they were calling and texting people to come in on there days off. Saying it was busy. Even after all this everyday you worked under stressful circumstances and had to work these busy days all by yourself with no help from management. (People often couldn’t come in to help on such short notice) This and many other things made the work environment extremely unprofessional and toxic. Management was awful nothing was communicated, checks were messed up, they always dumped the work load on one single person. My personal manager left during her shift to shop around the mall or just go home everyday. Our manager didn’t even train people. They would just have a new employee come in out of no where with no prior knowledge given to the working employee and the employee there would have to train them. The manager was even on schedule but not there. Overall I wouldn’t work here again. It was not a supportive workplace and everyday it was stressful and anxious going in to your shift.

Most of the co-workers were great! The store managers were wonderful and worked around mine and another workers school/other job schedules. The store managers tried their best to keep the atmosphere positive.

Upper management is terrible and doesn't offer helpful solutions when you need it. Lack of clear communication from upper management. If something out of our control happened, we were essentially blamed. 

Weren't technically allowed to sit on shift except for a minute or two while no customers were in the store. (We were busy most days so rare to sit). At one point, the chair that we did have was taken from us. Worked alone for the most part and we were told not to have food behind the counter so good luck eating especially with no actual breaks.

We didn't really have a dress code at our location so that's a plus.

Not enough training.

If stock came in, we were expected to have it all unpacked quickly even if it was just one person on while also keeping on top of greeting customers, checking in their items, keeping the store tidy and items folded. It was a LOT for just one person to handle. Very stressful.

Often times we were sent items that we already had a lot of and didn't need so it took up valuable storage space. 

Friends/family of an upper management role would come in and 'visit' but it was really to spy on us and make sure were doing what we were told to do. We'd be talked about after such visits.

Bottom line: upper management needs a change and new people need to take over. Terrible. Stay away.

Firstly, I’ve always gotten praise from every work place I’d ever been. I am very confident in my work abilities and how well I can connect with costumers. 

That being said, I received several, several complaints from management over things that did not make sense. I would get told customers would complain about me, then when I ask what I did wrong or how I could improve she would ignore me or brush it off. It’s just funny to me that not only was it my first customer complaints in my professional life, but she also couldn’t tell me what I did…

I once broke my toe and my entire foot was swollen, I texted my manager about this and warned her I could hardly move, but I would try my best. She didn’t ever respond, but a couple days later texted me saying I was being “lazy” and sit down too much despite me constantly being on my foot and doing chores around the store when I wasn’t supposed to be on it. 

I complained about the silverfish in the washroom & rats that were scattering the store, complained about my coworkers who would leave food out and many crumbs on the floor. I was the only one who ever cleaned, and I deep cleaned a lot because it was disgusting. Nothing was ever done about this and none of them were ever talked to about the issues. 

Genuinely if you can find any where else to work, do it. I was the only one who did anything, and performed 10+ hour shifts often because my coworkers would just not come in, yet I was constantly talked down on. 
I was fired quite literally the day after I deep cleaned the store and complained to management again. 

Unprofessional and disgusting. 

My time at Just Cozy was one of the most disappointing and demoralizing professional experiences I’ve encountered. From day one, there was a complete lack of structure, no proper onboarding process, and virtually no effective communication. Expectations were imposed without providing the necessary tools or support, making success in the role nearly impossible. Despite maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked store, recognition was entirely absent. Instead of acknowledgment, there was consistent criticism—even when outcomes were positive. The environment offered no encouragement, no positive reinforcement—only pressure and scrutiny. Employees were routinely left to operate stores alone for extended shifts without scheduled breaks. There was no regard for rest or basic human needs. The demand to remain on the floor at all times created unsafe, exhausting conditions. The workplace culture was toxic. Management relied heavily on intimidation and fear, regularly using job security as a threat based on sales targets—many of which were influenced by uncontrollable external factors. There was no mentorship or development—only unrealistic demands and constant pressure. Retail is demanding, but that does not excuse the absence of basic respect, structure, or humanity in management. This job was defined by exploitation, not leadership

The company itself is all over the place with what stores they’re keeping open for the year vs what stores they decide to close. Our store found out 2 weeks before our contact ends that we’ll be extended for a year. 

Stock is a constant issue, you never have a say in what items are received and the warehouse is constantly out of what we sell the most of. if you ever ask for things customers actually want we just get told “everyone’s asking for that we have none”

 Upper management is the absolute worst to deal with, if you ever try and explain something they just tell you to stop making excuses. You receive little to no help from anyone in upper management other then when they blame you for things (which they will because apparently anything that goes wrong is on the staff and not them)

Don’t expect a raise if your store stays open either. They’re far too cheap for that 

Days are slow, there’s never anything to do except the rare times you do get a delivery, and that’s usually dealt with in one day.  Upper management Gets mad at you when you “do nothing” when there is literally 0 stock to put on the floor and everything else has been cleaned 

Breaks are horrible, you get 1 30 minute lunch (unpaid) if you work a 8 hour shift, otherwise you don’t get a break. Company cut middle shift from 4 hours to 3 and cut the middle shift completely on Sunday and Monday so you don’t even get a break, it’s an absolute joke

 

 I was trained on the basics and how to fold and work the store in just 2 shifts. 

The way the manager would speak to us associates was very rude and condescending expecting us to know how a certain task was meant to be done without any guidance. After they left it was hard for them to find any replacement. 

When a new manager was hired it was even worse, no customer service, didn’t want to cover shifts so we were left alone during busy hours and expected to have the store clean while stuck at cash and tending to customers. 

When trying to complain to upper management we were just ignored

The products are subpar, barely fit everyone the same. When new product comes in a lot of it is damaged and takes up space in the backroom and we are left without space for actual stock. Ordering stock is a huge problem as they send everything they have at the warehouse which at times is not needed.

We get “paid shift breaks” if you work over 5 hours alone which are ok if you bring food with you, but they don’t provide a fridge or a microwave to store your food.

If head office takes advice from the staff working the store the company would be way more successful, having different sales, ordering specific stock, providing a kitchenette area for staff

The rules are changing so frequently, but staff are never told when. We are treated as if we have done something wrong despite us following the instructions we were previously given. Upper management is unprofessional, takes personal calls while “helping” staff, and trash talks them immediately to their manager. Zero praise from management. Team members fired for things that become okay to do weeks later. Constant complaints about short staffing yet zero hesitation to fire someone for an honest mistake. Extremely ableist vocabulary is permitted, so is homophobia and transphobia. The products themselves are hardly held together, restocks are rare, and the sizes are hardly inclusive and only fit the “ideal woman” no matter which size you pick, yet plus sized staff members are forced to squeeze into the leggings. Inaccurate contract, little break time (30 minutes for a 6+ hour shift, in comparison to how most jobs will offer you 2 paid 15s and an unpaid 30 for 8hrs). Customers are allowed to walk all over staff by management. Again, I cannot stress enough how you will receive ZERO praise. You are only ever told what you’re doing wrong, never once is “good job” said, nor is an ounce of gratefulness shown to staff. Please save yourself time and work somewhere else. 

Absolutely stressful environment. My co-workers were decent to work with, but management (regional and district) were the polar opposite. 

Management can and will talk about you in their own private chats on the Sling app, constantly watch the cameras to try to get you in trouble and yet refuse to offer any support during stressful days such as the holidays. They are inconsistent with their rules, almost always changing how things are run in the store and are absolutely dismissive and condescending. You are expected as an employee to pay for your work clothes out of pocket, and you HAVE to wear their product, no exceptions or you will be told to buy their clothing to wear immediately. They never tell you in advance about the sales and will change them at the last minute, so then you're unprepared and having to rush around to change signage before opening. There is an employee discount, but that's about it. 

You're almost always working on your own, so you can't really have time to eat anything or have a break. You're expected to tend to customers at all times even when you need to have a meal or go to the bathroom. 

My shifts were scheduled for 10-6 which is a 7.5 hour shift, but I was told by the manager I had to come in at 9:30am to be open by 10am and stay until 6:30pm to close, so I actually fact my shift I would work out a total of 9 hours but when my paid cheque came I was only getting paid for 7.5 hours. When I brought this problem up to the manager and district manager they were extremely unhelpful and Unwilling to solve the issue at hand and pay me for the correct hours I worked. Another issue I had with this company is that they did not care to train me to do this job properly. On my first shift I was told a very vague description on how to run the cash register then on shift manager left me to fend for myself when a customer come in to do a return I apologized and had I figure out how to do the returns on my own. This not only stressful for me but it took a long time to get this task done. When the manager return she told me her shift was over and that I was to close the store by myself the manager left without training me on the steps to close the store properly and again I was left I figure it out on my own. I find this to unexceptionable behaviour. I would not recommend this job to anyone.

Things can get pretty stressful, but that’s how it is with any occupation. Lots of folding, unpacking boxes, more folding, greeting the customers, getting into fun conversations about clothing with customers, then there's more folding and finally always making sure the store is always neat and tidy. The best part about this job I can say, was always having a great time with my co-workers, a positive work environment always encourage us to do better. My store manager was pretty awesome, has so much patience and kindness. God bless. However, the cons would definitely include that this position does not come with any health or dental benefits, no incentives of any sort, the work can definitely get too stressful for a minimum wage salary. Besides these few cons, I'd say I definitely loved working here, only because I met wonderful people like my store manager, coworkers and customers.
