When you're hired you're promised the possibility of advancement to senior therapist (position does not pay more but comes with more responsibilities). Management is told that employees need to respect their boundaries so if you get a call or text from an employee it's ok to ignore it until you have time, however if you're an employee and you ignore a message or call from your manager you'll hear about it. You're expected to cover shifts and have shifts covered in order to get time off, the time off that you're legally entitled to without having someone cover your shift - but if your shift isn't covered they'll lose money. You have to beg for a raise that you'll never get because they're never offered and if you ask for one get ready to have a meeting with management explaining that "We don't pay you, the clients pay you. Upsell your clients and you'll get a better commission." 
Don't try to bring up a policy or procedure or even behaviour from another employee that you don't agree with to management because you'll likely end up being made out to be difficult to work with and someone who likes to cause problems. Once that happens it won't be long until they find a reason to fire you. And they will find any reason to fire you.
Management (middle and upper) will treat you like you owe them a lot more than you're paid for. Your expected to go above and beyond all day everyday. You are replaceable, expendable and you may or may not have to pay for your own Christmas party, if you even get one.
Fresh out of school? Don't bother, you'll be taken advantage of.
Seasoned professional? Don't bother.
You will leave this job knowing how not to treat people.
Oh, but you'll get benefits after a year if you're full time, if you make it that long.



This spa provides high end customer service and treatments for their clients, there is a high expectation for professionalism. In downtime, laundry and cleaning duties are part of your job to keep things running smoothly and to be prepared for last minute bookings at all times. Staff are great at helping each other out when it’s busy, working as a team makes everything run smooth and keeps stress down. Our team has a great friendly relationship. As for salary and perks: you earn commission on services with opportunity to upgrade to increase the client’s experience as well as your commission. There is a back up hourly wage so you are always guaranteed a steady paycheque. Wage increases occur periodically, and commission raises are given on a time based schedule. Full benefits are provided after a year of employment, paid for by the employer. Pension plan also available with contributions from employer after certain time employed. If you want a professional career in the spa industry, this spa provides it. If you want a “slack” job, this isn’t it. That said, it is a very relaxed environment, as long as everyone does their part, the workday is very enjoyable. I feel relaxed when I come into work! 

Management promises mental/physical accommodation and accommodation for parents - it is not provided.  Those people become scapegoats for abuse in the workplace.

Policies are wishy-washy and change without warning, with little to no communication with the downline.  Punishment is public, critical, harsh for being unable to mind-read.

Communication book was frequently abused - used to leave passive-aggressive, targeted notes at unliked staff members.  Staff are encouraged when they find a personal problem with a person and harasses them at work - management plays blame game for who "deserved" it.

Tools go missing and are stolen and management won't get involved.  They gaslight the employees and tell them "well someone just must have accidentally took it" during a theft spree in the spa.  No trust among coworkers.

It's just not a good place. No work ethic, no cares, everyone's just there for the money especially the upper management and owner.

JFY is fast paced for RMTs and it is common to be fully booked. The clientele is diverse and often very generous with tips which is awesome to boost the pay check. It is rare place in the massage world with fairly predicable income and they provide a T4 making taxes easier and helps avoid surprises like a big tax bill (common with commission based or rent/room pay structures). Expectations do include cleaning and helping with laundry as well having a professional dress code including pleated pants. You do receive pay for stats, vacation and benefits after 3 months (rare in massage). JFY also has opportunities for advancement and has a progression raise structure. Sometimes it can feel disorganized with the fast pace but after a few months it’s easy to settle in. 

I have so many things to say about this company, but a few main points. I worked there for several years and would not recommend.
You get paid minimum wage without the opportunity of a hourly raise. In multiple years I never made commission (which is 25-30%, way below the industry standard).
You get paid once monthly, only able to get benefits after one year of working full time.
You are required to be at work 30minutes before your shift and 15 minutes after without pay.
There are supposed to be 5+ management positions, and one person is currently managing all departments, which is why the work environment is consistently stressful and exhausting and other staff are expected to pick up the overflowing work. & Much much more.

I worked hard here . Even went above and beyond . But was often over looked and under appreciated  . They have their favourites . 
Management is a complete joke . No staff appreciation . No pay raises . They do not pay over time should you do anything extra . Staff discounts were great but retail commission is a joke too . 
Don’t work here. It’s toxic . Front desk are gossipy . Esties are catty . Rmts are bossy and are overwhelming . When you bring up an issue a 
former employee was told they can leave , you’re replaceable and will rebuild . 
All the awards , acknowledgment is taken and you’re given the scraps .  
There is no team here . It sucks . 
You’re over worked to exhaustion , underpaid , under appreciated. 

The atmosphere is amazing! Beautiful work place. Co-workers that work as a team. High standards and extremely thorough training, make goals easy to reach and excel at. 
It's a workplace that creates careers not just a job. In the esthetics industry, that is extremely rare, I've been in the industry 15 yrs. First job in this industry, that breaks during the day are scheduled. And you are encouraged to make sure you are taking care of yourself! 
Management works with you side by side and makes sure you are confident in your treatments, so you are able to offer your client the best experience imaginable!! 
I enjoy that we are a spa family - at the end of shift we hang out, we leave as a team, we look out for each other. 
Our owner, leader, role model, is incredible!!  Extremely generous, in every way imaginable! I am a lifer - not going anywhere else!!

If you’re coming straight from school & want the experience, it is an okay job. The turn-around rate is outrageously high. Paid once monthly.  expected to come in 30 minutes early for work and leave 15 minutes after your shift, and if you have a full day of zero clients and are on commission you are expected to stay at work. If you go over with a client before your lunch, your lunch isn’t extended, even on slow days. The actual job in itself is relatively easy going, but the environment in itself made the job very tense and stressful. Management was one or two people, trying to cover everything, no true Esthetics management. No breaks during your work day, aside from your lunch break. The clients are amazing, and a perk is that the job had a full clientele already there for you. 

I worked here for over three years and it started off great, lots of training and the staff was nice, felt like there was opportunity to grow in my position, and couldn’t ask for more. But slowly you see what’s really going on behind the scenes. They favourite their employees, you’re not eligible for benefits until after a year, you’re expected to come in 30 minutes early, stay for your lunch in case they need you, and stay at least 20minutes after your scheduled shift to lock up. The owner seems very sweet and she has a lot of knowledge but if she doesn’t like you, you’ll get the short end of the stick. I’ve seen many past employees get harassed by her for no reason at all. It’s a beautiful spa and there are some perks like training and free services but I don’t feel like the good outweighs the bad at all.

I enjoyed working at just for you day spa the whole time I was there, I built so many relationships with clients and co workers. I learned something new there everyday and it made me smile and I looked so forward to the next thing. The only thing I didn’t appreciate was when I put in my two weeks notice no one mentioned it to me at all for days and then management continued printing my positions questionnaire as well with resumes, this broke my heart I loved them all. So I gave them my key because that made me feel so uncomfortable and so sad, I even had a lady witness this all go down with me with the printer and she told me that wasn’t ok as well.
