Just Junk

This place broke my spirit. I do not recommend anyone work here as management are tone deaf and create a toxic culture where bullying is allowed, if not encouraged. Some of the things I experienced whilst at Just Junk: 
- was made to drive into work during an ice and snow storm several times when other staff members were told/ given the choice to work from home. Keep in mind I lived the farthest away from the office and would outright ask to work from home because it was unsafe to drive but was told I had to come into the office. 
- the CFO/ HR manager (yes, they hold both positions) followed me into the bathroom to listen to my personal phone call and screamed at me in a meeting immediately after that because I told me dad I was unhappy. 
- was treated noticeably horribly by management. So much so that it was a joke amongst the sales team. It was a joke that everyone else could essentially get away with murder while if I wasn't 1110% perfect I would get in trouble. I didn't realise it was just me being treated like this until my colleagues told me. Favoritism was a real thing and if the manager liked you, you could do literally anything. If the manager didn't like you, they would make your life miserable. This is with me putting my heart and soul into this job and trying everything in my power to please this manager. 
- we were understaffed and given additional work for no extra pay to the point where we were all burnt out. When bringing up these issues with management, we are told to "dig deep" and do one thing at a time. This would be frustrating to hear when we would consistently be up to our eyeballs in calls/ chats/ emails and the two sales team managers would be seen talking and laughing looking at pictures as opposed to helping their team. 
There isn't a member of the sales team that is happy there and they had lost 4 good, full time staff in the last 6 months out of the 8 that were there when I started. All of those staff left as a direct result of management. 
The complacency of other senior members of staff is shameful and in my eyes, nearly as bad as the bullying as they leave staff members that are struggling to fend for them selves with no support. 
The turnover is high for a reason. They promise advancement and great opportunities but it is a lie. Do yourself a favour and do not work here.

It changes from franchise to franchise, but a typical day at work starts with meeting at the yard roughly 45 minutes before your first job. You are assigned to a job board, which may have anywhere between 4-8 jobs on a typical day. The management does a fairly good job organizing the boards to keep them balanced, helping prevent one truck team from getting really far behind. A truck team will always consist of two people. All the guys on the job are great, hard-working individuals, which helps promote a healthy workplace culture. 

Although this job can require long hours, and hard work, overall it is a great place to work, especially if you are a student looking for a good summer job. One of the best things about this job is that you will stay in shape, and be outside most of the day. When you are not working at a job site, you will be in the junk truck driving around from site to site. Some days you will work for 10 hours, but 5 hours will be spent in the truck, which I would barely consider work, besides calling the customer and navigating the driver on how to get to the next job. If you are interested in business, this is a great transitional job between working a summer job and working a corporate job. You get hands-on experience with interacting with the customer. From calling the customer 30 minutes prior to making their appointment as smooth as possible, you learn a lot about business. 

All in all, working at just junk is a great job. In many of the reviews people complain, but people will always complain about everything. This job can require long hours, and working hard. If you can't handle that, maybe this job isn't for you. However, speaking from personal experience, I have grown tremendously as a person from this job, and I have had a lot of fun doing it. Lastly, one of the best things about the job is the weekly pay and the size of the paycheques. It changes franchise to franchise, but for our franchise, starting pay was $16.00. Although never expected, we do receive tips, and on a good tip week, you can see that $16/hr almost double. If you do become a quoter, you make 2% commission, which adds up, and if you work 50 hours a week, there is a lot of money to be made. 

I currently work as a Labourer/Navigator with JustJunk, and I’ve been part of the team for a year now. From day one, it was a unique and stimulating work experience. Everyday is something new; you go to new places, you meet new people, and you get the chance to learn something new.
For the most part, you find yourself typically removing furniture/appliances, but the items you collect can be very diverse; such as electronics, household waste, yard waste, construction debris, commercial junk removal, and even shed demolitions! If anything we acquire is in good condition and can be donated; we do that as well!
The boss of the franchise I work for is a really good individual to work with too; both as an employee and a customer. He makes sure everything is done to perfection, treats his employees very well, and is always more than willing to go the extra mile for our customers. I couldn’t think of someone better to run the business! 
Overall, this last year working with JustJunk has been phenomenal!

Just Junk is a pretty terrible place to work. While you are guaranteed hours, you're paid weekly, and the schedule comes out a month in advance, those are the only benefits. Well, you'll get benefits, if you make it past a year and the tyrannical management duo who are so power hungry, they're legitimately crazy.
There is no room for advancement and this job takes up your whole life, 9 hours a day with a forced, not-paid-for, hour lunch. The management come in for about 3-5 hours a day, during which time, it's debatable whether they do any work.
The job itself is mind-numbingly terrible. Answering phones and being forced to stick to a script so minutely, you get emails if you get a single word wrong. Even if a customer asks a question directly, you have to go through the entire script before letting them know 'no, we're not free.'. Again, management is terrible and I wrote a letter upon quitting to the owner of the company and he did absolutely nothing, he didn't even talk to the two dictator-like managers or the rest of head management.

If youre an able bodied male, with a valid drivers license, well chances are You can get a job at Just Junk.

Generally you work with a partner, sometimes 2 and you drive around town picking up junk. Rarely you have to get your hands dirty and most of the time you are removing furniture and old boxes of stuff.

Occasionally you find cool stuff  and you can probably keep some of it  -'_-'  though that is against company rules

Hours are unpredictable though and the job pays 12-15$ an hour. You easily make more than that for your employer though. 

There is no med plan or insurance benefits.
and really this isnt a career job. It's a gig, but nothing more.

There is the rare occasion you have a dirty job as well, so wear clothes you arent attached o and bring protective wear.

One more thing, this is a CASH COW, so if you can, get in on the franchise rather than be an employee.

The basis of the job is that you and a partner drive around town picking up stuff from residential or commercial locations and then recycling, donating, dumping it out, rinse and repeat. The hourly pay is so so but the tips you make are the biggest x factor with paychecks. Sometimes you can get over $100 in a day in tips and the next you may get $10. Jobs can move from other trucks job boards onto yours or vice versa, this can blindside you and you may end up working hours of overtime when you thought you might have an early day. If you don't like an inconsistent shift end time then this may not be for you. But if you like getting OT hours and the chance of good tips then it's a good fit.

get in the truck with a co worker and go to customers houses or businesses and complete the job until its finished and then move on to the next customer until finished the jobs for the day. Then get dropped off at the meet spot and go home. learned to deal with customers and assist with their exact needs and expectations pricing wise. Sometimes drove the truck, wrote up paper work or invoices. Some jobs could be harder than others depending on what or how much they wanted removed or if there was no elevator. The most enjoyable part was meeting and dealing with all kinds of different people and also just doing the job at basically your own steady pace.

This entire industry is unsustainable; they prey on middle class people, mainly boomers, who feel guilt and believe there still prefectly good stuff will be reused or donated. That is just a lie, they lie and have thing opressive "reputation" it is really shocking. The way the structure your work is you are constantly on call, it is barely a summer job and the people who work there are not very smart, it is just another cGIG job, no future, no joy, just lies and lies and lies, I have never seen so many perfectly new things thrown out in my life. This is not a GREEN industry, nor a real job at all.

If you’re lucky enough to get tips that’s the best part.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management. The corporate structure of the company.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work culture is very toxic, lots of jobs customers expect you to compromise your safety.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work, phone customers upon arrival. Defuse a situation where the sales staff give an incorrect price to a customer and maybe you get work for the day.

I have been working at just junk a year and a half and it’s a great place to work. You have good management and great owners there and they treat us well. They have checked in to see how I’m doing more than once asking if the work is okay showing they care about their employees. You get paid really good and they pay well for overtime with bonuses and  tips too. The days go quick working outside. They always allow time off when needed for appointments. The atmosphere is great there and I would definitely recommend working here.
