Justice Tween Brands

Started there when they opened, it was a fun and great place to work at first. Everyone pulled their weight and pulled together as a team. We always got our work done cause we respected each other and we're always willing to help one another. But, now it's a nightmare nobody is happy ever since the new manager took over in the fall of 2015.Its no good to complain  about anything to the higher ups nobody listens. She makes everyone feel like they are not good enough. We never hear good job, or made feel appreciated. She puts us down in front of customers, and always complains to us about how tired she is or how sick she is feeling. She is a single woman, most of us that work there are moms, college students, who know first hand what it's like to be both of these but we are not allowed to say anything, just put a smile on our faces and deal. She has all the higher ups fooled she is one way to them and like a  dog to us. She has no respect for us what so ever. I had customers that don't come in anymore because she is there. They try to come in when she is off. If, we try to talk to her about concerns we are cut off. She holds grudges, she is two faced, she has made people quit cause she doesn't like them even if they are good employees. The overturn in staff since she began is huge , everybody finds out what is really like and quits, or doesn't even bother showing up. The fun has gone,tension is all the time present when she is working. The only reason I am still there is because the economy in Alberta is so bad right now the is very little jobs,the shifts are not good they expect you to work a 3 hour shift,most people it's not worth the gas to come for  that short amount of time. I know it's part time work, but it's States in labour laws that part time people can work up to 32  hours, or more depending on the circumstances. Seniority  doesn't mean a row of beans to them,people getting hired 3 months ago are getting the same amount of hours as the people working there a year and a half. We work hard to prove ourselves and we feel like we just get a slap in the face. It's the only job I had where there is such a lack of respect and not giving a care about there employees, no raises, no bonuses only for management, we have to do all the grunt work, and the management gets all the rewards. We are trying to better ourselves, and have happy customers, but it's kinda hard to do that when you don't have happy staff. There are days when nobody even wants to be there, when we know we are just going to be snapped at or put down. We are not allowed to have an opinion,and when we do have a great idea, we don't get credit for it, or they take the credit for themselves. I know that we have lost a lot of customers because of the way the staff is spoken to . People one mom told me she doesn't come in as much as she did anymore because  of some of the things she's witnessed, with the manager speaking down to employees, she now drives further to go to a different location, I think the company as a whole needs to listen to the employees better,they need to do an undercover boss or something. They need to talk to the real employees that are keeping their company making money. It's all about the little girl that come in the store they say,that's fine and dandy, but they also need employees who are happy and in turn make that little girls experience that much more  special and memorable. Hopefully it gets better.

Typical day was greeting customers and telling them the deals of the week, folding and organizing clothing and finding other sizes in the back. If you were lucky people would ask you to help find a stylish outfit for their daughter, niece, cousin, etc. I had to answer questions from a 2 hour training video when I first started. I got to change sale signs which was one of my favourite days when I worked there as well as PJ day. However their were days when you stood around bored which you expect. My car also had a part go wrong 2 hours before my shift. Needing the car for school the next day I had to take it in or fix it myself. When I explained the situation they told me to take a taxi to work a 4 hour shift. That would be okay if the taxi wouldn't have costed me $50 to get there alone so needless to say I didn't go in that day for me to make no money. They send some last minute schedule changes to your email sometimes resulting in you showing up later because they changed it at 12am when you are asleep. Management may get mad when nobody is coming in when you are on greet so you have to move. Also asked me to come into work knowing I had school when they called. Other than that I actually enjoyed the time there but I don't think I would go back.

Got a seasonal position at Justice and was told in the group interview that my position would turn into a part-time position. I watched 2 videos on stealing my first day and then was thrown on to the sales floor on Black Friday with no knowledge of the product. I was not given an employee number, so I was writing down the hours I worked. When I handed the paper to my manager she became enraged and told me that I was given an employee number and that I must have misplaced it (I was not given a number) Payday rolled around and I was not paid because the direct deposit form I had given them was not acceptable because I had handwritten my information on the form. Nobody had told me this until I questioned them about my pay. They send you home early most days, and shame you if you don't know what you're doing because of the lack of training. I was given no shifts after Christmas Day, so I assumed that they had let me go. I had quit my other job for Justice, so I was left unemployed. There was no formal lay off or firing done. Management was rude and even if you worked your shift, they would get mad at you for leaving. They talk about boosting the confidence of young girls but tear down their employees.

Worked at Justice under several different managers. All managers appeared to be nice and organized during the first week but later proved to be too unstable to hold a management position. The staff and managers in this establishment are very unprofessional and unorganized. As a woman it hurts to say that the staff and manager in the Milton Justice prove the stereotype of women not being able to hold a position of power to be true. Very emotional thinkers and frankly too invested in gossip, drama, and each other's personal lives, rather than focusing on customer service and driving up sales. Upper management however is great, and they check up on the store often. Overall, try your luck at a different location, do yourself a favour and avoid the Milton branch.

Work life balance was sometimes hard as it is mall hours
Management does not know how to use positive coaching techniques and all meetings were what negative things you were doing.
Low pay for the amount of work you had to do

Management is not allowed to talk to on floor staff
Management was not allowed to leave for a 30 min unpaid break unless another manager was on schedule
Too many captains for such a small ship leaving people not having clear directions on tasks that needed to be done.
Some employees were doing tasks that were not even in their job description

CONS
- Gossip and drama are huge here
- No guarantee of hours: scheduled 3-hour shifts with on-calls, the possibility of being called off the day before, seasonal staff given priority shifts, etc.
- No room for growth: the process to go any higher than "lead brand sales" is extremely difficult unless you're willing to relocate
- District Manager has referred to employees as "just numbers" when explaining how everyone is replaceable. So as you can tell, they really care about their employees. 
- Anything brought up to the District Manager will fall on deaf ears.. don't bother wasting your time
- Management's told to only do "figure 8's" around the store leaving style advisors to do everything with no recognition or compensation, unlike management.

In the beginning of my experience here at Justice, I really love the environment and the message the company was trying to sell to the customers. I felt like it was important for me to send a message to little girls that every size is beautiful. I love how the management is easy to talk to, and they understand how your schedule is going. However, the hours that they give is very little, almost to the point where I didn't feel like I should be working anymore. I wanted to work for more hours, however, they have me the opposite of what I needed. Especially since living in this province is very expensive. I would say that If you are a part-time student, I would recommend this to be your first time job.

Despite the store's bright and colourful physical look, entering the store as an employee carries a wave of dread. Although the work culture can be fun with a strong and helpful sales team, it doesn't help that management is corrupt and full of shi... You could show great initiative, work 13h+ (not including OVERTIME) without PROPER breaks, excel in customer service, take on extra tasks/responsibilities without better pay, or have a wonderful sales review... do not expect to move up or advance in this company unless you have a "friend" or know someone in the business. Better yet, suck up and bribe if you ever want a higher pay.

This company is alright for part time work but there are no benefits or vacation time/pay for part time sales associates and they pay way too little and expect way too much work. At my orientation i was told that it was ok if i called in sick as long as it was 2 hours before my shift and that i was allowed to book time off but when i started working here i tried to call in sick one day and they told me i either had to find someone else to take my shift or i have to come in and when i tried booking two days off for holidays i was not allowed because it was black out season. Other than that the rest of the sales associates are very nice but i didn't care much for the management.

There was absolutely no formal training when I was hired. I was just expected to know everything. I keep getting the "how do you not know this". Every shift they put me at the front of the store then complain when I do not know how to do cash. 


To this day I do not know who is who when it comes to managers. I have 5-6 managers, three of which I met. I do not know who is responsible for what. Where to go if I have an issue. 

I understand what 15 minute breaks do not have to be given under 5 hours but most other stores will give one if the store is extremely slow. My other job provides paid breaks and we are busier than Justice. They could have 1 customer every half hour and have 5 employees and not provide one unpaid break.
