K-Jay Electric Ltd

This company gets a bad rap for being a rotating door. That's what happens when you only desire to keep people who're able to get the job done to a higher standard. I've worked for K-Jay for a combined 3 years. I left on good terms the first time because they're very open to you exploring other opportunities in your apprenticeship as long as you're open with them, and they took me back when I needed them. I learned a lot of skills from K-Jay and the group of guys working here are awesome from the owner, to the management, to the electricians. If you're willing to work hard, learn and adapt, this company is great.

K-Jay is an okay starting point for anyone looking to get into the trade, they pay at the low end of most other companies and don't offer benefits until after you go to school and its not guaranteed they would hire you back. I often found myself learning from other first years that started just before me.

Excellent people, and great middle management. Though the owner seems a little out of touch with his workers, long windows of little to no communication.

Overall, a great place to begin your apprenticeship, but little to no growth in the company available any time soon.

KJay is a great place to work.  The culture is very friendly and inclusive.  The management is very fair and understanding for any issues that may arise that you need to deal with.  They are concerned with you learning about the trade and not just getting the job finished.

they require you to come in, in the morning and work for 1 hour for free while you load up your vans. no overtime
no benefits

Management and co-workers were great, however it was clear this was not a job that would last as 90% of all employees were first or second year apprentices. But that is the nature of the residential sector I guess

work outside 
pull wires
terminate wires
install panels
terminate panels
follow direction of foreman
work well as a team or individually
enthusiastic, always willing to learn more
work well under pressure to meet deadlines

It’s a good place to start but not a good place to end.

Get your blue book, maybe complete your first year, then move on to something else.           

Pros - easy to get into the trade this way

Cons - unless you have a van, you have to pay for your own gas

In my opinion it is the best place for an apprentice to start because I learned many things during my 5 month period. I was surrounded by many friendly and smart people which made my experience at work more fun

This is a family run business with a friendly, fun, dynamic environment. It is busy as well as very productive! Fun place to work with very supportive management!
