My experience was over a 6 year span in 2 different locations. I have worked in the big main warehouse in Coquitlam and the store warehouse in Victoria. Both very different sets of people but everyone I've met in my time with the company have been very colorful characters meaning lots of personalities with their own kind of quirks but very fun to work with and also always a willingness to help eachother out. There, as with most places, are a few grumpy people but they fit in and are usually to themselves. I have seen a few different cases of workers come through both locations. I have some advise, If you have the drive to work and willingness to learn and aren't afraid to ask questions, then you will go far in this company. This company has always provided the opportunity for growth and progression within it. The managers I have worked with and the higher up GMs I've had the pleasure of meeting (who do come by and visit the stores every year--sometimes more than once) are very supportive people. It is a family owned business and they give to charities continuously. 
And yes there is a lot of stress that goes with any job within the company, but this is based only how you carry your stresses, what position you are in and even when the times were tough, you're in it with a fantastic team and the pay off is rewarding. As I said, you have to be willing to learn and ask lots of questions in order to excel in the company. There is a lot to know. But I wouldn't trade my time with them for anything else. It was such a great learning and job experience. 

I had the absolute pleasure of being a part of the K M S Tools team in Kamloops, British Columbia, and I cannot emphasize enough how truly amazing the culture is at this company. First and foremost, the management team deserves a huge shoutout for their exceptional leadership skills. From day one, I was welcomed with open arms by a team of talented, friendly, and supportive individuals who made the workplace feel like a second home. There's a wonderful sense of camaraderie and teamwork that permeates throughout the company, making each day enjoyable and rewarding. -Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records
-Supervise, investigate and approve all credit applications
-Monitor account aging reports. Communicate to Account Sales Manager
-Maintain AR customer files including PST information
-Receive and process Payments on Accounts ( POAs) and EFT payments
-Ensure outstanding A/R over 60+ days are put on Credit Hold
-Generating and sending out monthly statements by mail or email
-Research and resolve customer queries regarding accounts details
-Assist customers in arranging financing for projects including leasing options
-Confirms/updates Accounts Payable supplier information as necessary in database
-Includes recording and tracking of payment terms and early pay discounts
-Purchase order confirmations and backorder follow-up using PO follow up report
-Reconciles and submits for payment Environmental Levies
-Investigates and Corresponds as necessary with KMS physical warehouses to confirm receipt of shipment where discrepancies exist between invoicing and receipts of goods
--Reviews Unvouchered PO report monthly and investigates as required
-Manage collection calls
-Reconciliation of Kamloops Account for intercompany transactions
-Audit store errors
-Audit posting errors and correct
-Audit store accounts
-Other task/projects may be assigned as necessary

I had to train myself at this company. Half of the staff already there don't know the processes and the management are not willing to train you themselves. Expect a manager who hides in their office all day while the store goes unmanaged leading to staffing shortages, your work going unnoticed, passive aggressive coworkers and the expectation that any extra work outside of your job description will be completed anyway without question or compensation. They will cut any extra time you have to work down to the minute and will claim to consider a raise when the paperwork goes unsubmitted to their head office. Their warehouse pays lower than most in the job market and their justification is a bare-bones benefits plan that won't save you much except on prescriptions, and even then not alot of those. Their "core values" include entrepreneurship, which is a sneaky way of telling you it's up to you to manage yourself on most days, but if work isn't completed you'll be held responsible even when you're unaware of the work needed to be done. They often post the schedule the day before your work week starts. Would you like to work for a company who openly disrespect your personal time and individuality? It starts here!

The company runs like it had invented a time machine and went back to the 1980's, and everything is a very tightly run ship.  As a result, their definition of "room for growth" and measurement of success may vastly differ. Would highly not recommend if you're free spirited or not a fan of unfulfilling work. 

Middle management seem to actually do their job, unlike most useless ones at other organizations which I revere. They can be a control freak and super petty at times, which is weirdly at a high level for some reason. However, they won't give you a hard time if you follow exact processes no matter how useless or inconvenient, and don't cost them their valuable time - which is seen as a lot more valuable than mine.

They have an extremely high turnover rate across all departments and the ones who stick around are nepo hires. However, this is the most stable job I've had by far since trades are booming in Vancouver. Management is allergic (anaphylaxis level) to giving you raises, but you do get a christmas bonus with a bottle with their logo on it. 

If you want to feel incompetent 90% of your day, work here. The staff is 40% easy to get along with, however team morale and the environment make it hard to want to be at work most days. Finer points:
 
* Management is great to work with you for schedule, until you have to make adjustments that is.
* Favorites are picked and played. If you have an issue with one of the managers favorites it will be brushed under the rug, no matter how crude or meanly you’re treated.
* Department “managers” don’t train you, you’re left to fend for yourself. Questions are encouraged however if you ask too many you’re treated as “annoying” or like you know nothing. 
* Expediters do not sort department items to proper departments.
*  Management is too much of a  buddy, not enough of a boss.
* Pay is subpar to industry standards, and raises and the supposed profit sharing are none existent.
* Your wifi activity is monitored on their in store server (no personal details but anything but their sites are “flagged”)

There is more but this is already long enough. Do yourself a favor, apply anywhere but here.

I was fortunate to be able to work in the Coquitlam store throughout the early phase of Covid 19.   In that time I didn’t miss a single day and I’m very grateful for that. The sales staff is very knowledgeable and most are good people to work with.   The inside manager is a very fair, easy person to work for.   She treated the sales staff very well.   Having head office connected to the store isn’t ideal.   There is a huge difference between being a “store employee” and working for head office.   Ownership is very fair but I think upper management needs to understand that not everyone on the floor is equal in relation to sales and industry experience.   Pay people what they are worth.  Don’t just base it on job description and how long you’ve worked there.    And don’t have operation manager do sales employees reviews.   They don’t know the first thing about selling!    

One of the most stressful workplaces I have worked in. Management believes that they can extract the most productivity from a worker by not training, discouraging lunch breaks, not allowing coffee breaks not allowing employees to sit down, encouraging constant and continual interuption of deadlined tasks, shorting vacation hours with very poor explanation, no support from management regarding difficult or abussive customers, constant suspicion and blame and accusation from head office, installing site blocking software on computers thereby reducing effective sales opportunities, not giving proper benifits in a timely manner ie 90 days after employment, leading/missleading and false promising  employees about benifits. Co-workers are all fantastic people who deserve to be organized and represented as a worker group.

This is a big box company that still tries to operate as a small ma and pa store. There is no company wide structure, every department in every store makes their own rules, and with 14 or 15 locations now, its chaos. Wages are far below industry standards. Workloads are outrageous in the warehouse, often getting slammed with 30+ skids of product with no heads up or planning whatsoever.  Upper management would rather punish frustrated workers than address issues. I was once told by a manager whom I brought a stock issue to that it "wasn't his problem." Two star overall rating only because there are some awesome people working the sales floor and warehouse.

Purchasers are the best I have ever seen, from basic stock purchasing, marketing, pricing and always keeping up with the newest products and evaluating product sales.
Management is doing their best. 
KMS Tools is growing like a monster that has left management behind. They need a professional corporate management team.
If that happens, Home Hardware, Home Depot and all the big box stores won't know what hit them
Wish I could have finished my career there!
Hope they move into Ontario and the east of Canada.
We need them here.
