A typical day at Kott Lumber would consist of me waiting outside the buildings where the roof trauss were being built, and once they were built and sent out through the rolling pins to crush them together, I would stack and strap them together for the tractor to come around and pick them up to be placed on a truck. then delivered to construction sites to be used.  I learned how to strap big piles of wood frames together and use a strapping gun.  Management was alright other then they changed managers positions every week.  Co-workers were ok to work with, didn't really see them much since i was outside by myself.  The hardest part of my job was stalking them fast enough when they were coming out, and doing it in the rain cause the ground would become all muddy.  The best part was the end of the day when we got to leave.

If you’re hired for stairs and think you’re going to do carpentry you’re wrong at any time, they could ship you the trusses a demotion where you’re swinging a hammer all day with no skill involved in attempt of constructive dismissal and matter fact, right now they’re hiring for stairs. Why there’s still stair guys in the truss shop and if you think any of the management team is going to stick up for you, you’re wrong
A waste of time, putting in many many years

This location is the only good location for Kott. The one moodie drive has been referred to as a 'Boot Camp' by literally everyone who has worked there.

This location however has a good boss and good people.

Problem isn't them, it's the state of the housing market. All the operations of this facility are within the housing market and well.... Things are great in the housing industry right now....

As a result I rarely have work and as someone with ADHD it's my kryptonite. This is why I am not actively seeking the furtherment of my job here. 

Working in the yard gives you quite a bit of experience, especially in a warehouse type of environment. They have you working long hours outdoors in all types of weather. From the physical toll that the job puts on your body and your mind due to a terrible work/ life balance, you aren't compensated very well with your salary. Currently the hours for the yard positions are 6:30-5 monday to thursday, and 6:30-4 on friday. It doesn't leave much time for a social life since half your day is at work.

I at first was satisfied with this company. However they are expecting high volume s of work to be done yet they haven't given any raises in 4 years. I have a family and a home and the cost of living continues to rise and this company doesn't understand this. they expect more more more yet they don't want to compensate their employees.

I worked in the yard so there isn’t much to say. You’re at the bottom of the food chain. Even if you have 15 years of experience, the office staff and management will still think your head is full of sawdust. Frustrating to have people who have never done the job trying to tell you how to do it. 


Dont invest any of you're precious time here.As I stated you're efforts in transporting in stressful and impossible situations while trying to deliver customer service goes unnoticed and always found that was overlooked for any internal opportunity because of the nepotism.

The Smell of wood  is nice. That’s all.

No encouragement and extremely dangerous

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not friendly. Tough guy swearing vulgarity tolerated.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Be extremely productive nonstop. Breaks so short for extreme labor

Honestly, this has been my most enjoyed and liked job to date.  I worked with great people and had great supervisors. 

This one of those places you work; and when they ask you for overtime, you do it gladly.  Not because you Have to, but because you actually want to. 

Only reason for leaving was seasonal temporary lay off and I moved and found employment before I was called back.
