Preparing the lounge for the seniors before coming, preparing snacks and drinks. Then I have to welcome them and help them to sit down and serve them the snacks. Then arrange physical activities and some crafts to do with them.

Then prepare lunch and serve them, cleaning the place after they leave, and write daily report about the seniors about their physical activities, social, communication and rate their behaviour. 

The most enjoyable part was helping the seniors and making them happy, and having good conversation with them. Also, the staff were so friendly and helpful, and were wiling to train and teach at any time.

Training was minimal. Learning curve on policies and procedures was near zero. Ability to make mistakes and learn was near intolerable by management. Support by management when needing them was near zero. Things were not rocket science, but when you don't know something you should be able to ask without fear. Not this place. Co-workers tend to lean on each other instead of management because of this culture. Calling in sick during covid was deemed cause for dismissal. Micromanagement over nonsense. Quickly, this place became a dreaded place to work. 

I worked at Kerby Centre for a considerable amount of time, and was treated (and observed other staff being treated) very badly by the executive team. The staff culture was terrible at best, and the turn over rate was always high. The pay for program managers did not reflect the amount of work required ($41320 annually), and there was little to no support for staff, and everyone worked from a fear (of the CEO) mentality. If it was the only place in Calgary that was hiring, I would rather be unemployed.

Days are busy always something to do.
Learned that everyone can be useful regardless of ability or age.
The management is busy yet very supportive.
The most enjoyable part of the job is that you can see the difference you are making with the community.

Getting So many people at the same time.

Friendly, Outgoing, and very understanding

Kerby Centre is a friendly, intimate working atmosphere where I found everyone to be passionate about  their service to seniors. 

I worked first as a Recreation Therapist at the Adult Day Support Program, and later as Housing Coordinator in the Housing Department.

Volunteers and most of the staff

Upper management can be difficult to deal with

Good, as long as you're working with the volunteers

I enjoyed the time I worked at Kerby Centre. I learned a lot in my position and I was provided good support and leadership as well as being given opportunities to provide these things to others. It was a dynamic work environment that allowed people the opportunity to continue to learn and to expand on their skills and experience.

super caring staff, really good managers, they are always looking for the best way to help seniors. everyone has fun at work. As it is a non-profit, there's no pressure on profit or achievement like in the private sector, which actually makes it easier to focus on profit and achievement

I found this place to be an abusive work environment, very hierarchical, no support, pay is the absolute worst. Would not recommend to anyone. I have never seen an organization have such a revolving door for employees.
