Boy...what can I say within one review. I will do my best to be succinct.

-This is one of the biggest ones, so I'll put it first-- one of the most DISORGANIZED and CHAOTIC schools I have EVER seen. Total nightmare getting anything done! Who allows a THREE HOUR LONG Remembrance Day assembly? Guesstimate that anything planned will take at least an hour longer, and start at least 45 minutes later than you expected. You want paperwork done on time? No. You need your paycheque at the end of the month? Try again in ten days after you hound them for hours in the office. You want to PHOTOCOPY YOUR OWN SCHOOLWORK? No thanks buddy you need to give them 24 hours. NIGHTMARE. 

-This school absolutely needs to hire more support staff and just like...other needed staff in general, such as lunchtime supervisors. It was outrageous how little help high-risk students received, and when they did, it was...pretty poor.

-Class divisions ranked and divided by intelligence. I don't need to explain how horrible this is. 

-Teachers told off like they're children for ridiculous and/or small things. 

-Teachers were very very petty and cliquey with each other. Maybe they are like children. 

-Very few teachers actually appropriately utilizing the new BC Curriculum properly. Brutally appropriative and at times racist First Nations projects were everywhere. 

-Children treated like they were made of spun sugar and would evaporate if they got wet. You literally could not send students outside if there was a drizzle of rain (or a little snow, or even strong wind). Administration would insist no students could go outside. 

-Children were very babied, allowing for some pretty naughty behaviour. They're really good kids, but they could get away with some pretty ridiculously rude behaviour! 

-Most of the main math and LA work came from these terrible workbooks that really didn't make for any dynamic sort of teaching. They might be okay as extra skill strengthening, but it was sad watching them whip those books out daily. 

I'm certain there's more I could say, but I will stop. To any teacher struggling to find work elsewhere, persevere. You do not deserve being here, you deserve better. I believe in you. But do not apply, it is not worth the total nightmare this place is.

Please don't work here if you're looking for good administrative support and well-behaved kids.

Here are some reasons:

-The administration was not supportive if you had behavioural issues with the students or the class. They either ignored it completely or blamed you.

-Very little or non-existent EA support in the classroom

-Extremely poor duty schedule. Actually pretty non-existent to be honest. Some teachers were give short breaks or no breaks. 

-Poor security. I saw strangers roam the hallways in a rather heavily industrialized and unsafe area of Surrey. 

-A lack of differentiation or creative teaching in the classroom. You were only allowed to do what your grade leader gave to you, causing great conflicts between some teachers. 

-Long assembly management. They did not keep in mind how to manage different age groups during long assemblies. Of course younger children are going to get restless after sitting for a long time.

-Very isolated work culture. Hard to get to know fellow co-workers. 

-Promises they do not intend to keep. They will SAY anything to get you to work there but will not following through. 

-Extremely high turnover rate for teachers. They do not value teachers or any suggestions or problems you might have. Several staff members quit or were fired while I was working here. 

-Rats and mice in the classrooms and in the Gurdwara. They say they will get rid of them but they never do.

So please, if they contact you, don't work here.

I worked at Khalsa School Newton for just about a year. During my time there, I was amazed by how supportive the administration was as they were very understanding. At the time, I had a lot of things occurring outside of work and they allowed me the time and space needed to tend to my family. All the staff was warm and welcoming. The students work hard and are committed to learning and doing their best. It was my first year of teaching and all of these factors made the at times stressful nature of teaching very manageable. I really enjoyed my time there- it is an experience I truly cherish.

 they give a irregular schedule(a little) that really messed up

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
it is a very nice and helpful environment and although it is a traditional school they respect every culture there  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
start working with a very organized and well-planned schedule and work on it diligently

At the time of this writing, it is best understood that Khalsa School aims to attract new teachers and does not work well to maintain experienced educators for their school. The board that oversees the school does not work to innovate the school and aim to expand beyond traditional teaching methods. Teacher retention is not a priority, nor is being competitive with the other schools.

Teachers are required to work on bringing enrollment of new students, they have teachers do that work too. The kids are amazing, very well-behaved and most parents value education very highly. Overall, by working at Khalsa School, you get to experience the Punjabi culture very closely. Lots of fun events and free food very often. 

We dont get to choose our electives for our second semester even though we are alllowed to do it, and the staff picks the elective for students randomly.
We even searched up for some teachers on  BC ed, and some teachers working at our school dont have the certificate necessary for teaching

Underhanded. No regard for education, all about appearances and gaining new enrollment. Absolutely unprofessional. Never paid on time and always mysterious deductions from pay with no clear explanation. Filthy, really filthy. Misrepresentation of terms of employment and pay. They don't even have WIFI!

Khalsa School imparts extensive knowledge and understanding of the Sikh religion and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to all students. Communication with parents and reporting their student's performance is done in a timely manner.

My job was to help out the children over zoom and review what there teacher provided them with due to the school being shut down from the covid 19 thing so we worked online off of zoom
