I enjoyed the diverse scope of work, no two jobs were the same therefore I did gain quite a bit of experience and really enjoyed the crews I worked with and my first foreman was wonderful to work with. However, HR/ recruitment  is dreadful and incredibly unprofessional. There is zero job security and if you show any interest in moving up within the company or want in gaining experience in equipment you will be accused of not wanting to work and having an attitude problem which results in being “shipped off” (I was lucky and was given opportunities in equipment, however this was something I saw with a lot of the other labourers). The only way to get ahead is to be deceitful and step on the person beside you rather than put in the work and effort and get ahead honestly. The civil super I worked with was deceitful, ego centric and still believed that in order to be a good superior your workers needed to fear you and be afraid of losing their job. 

All in all, I would not recommend working for Kichton as a first choice or choosing them for a long term career however gaining experience in many different aspects of earthworks, the crews and a small number of decent foremen made my time with them worthwhile.

This is one of those companies that promise you the world and does not deliver! For example they say that everyone gets a Christmas bonus as long as you show up every day and make it to the end of the season. Then they lay you off in early December(end of season ) and don't deliver! One Labourer lives with the Forman does all his paper work and very little physical labor, but has a job all year round. Meanwhile other Latour's who do more physical work by Mondays first coffee than he does for the entire work week loose there job! I once seen them load up the company truck with copper pipes from an atco site that we were working on. shoring and piling crew are a bunch of  Pepsi heads.The said foreman and his buddy show up to work hung over on a daily basis. If you like working with rift raft /trailer trash! Then you will love it. Other than that stay clear!they under pay everyone with the promise of the year end bonus that never comes.I witnessed the layoff of a 13 year long employee while said Forman and his buddy (first year)worked all year round. True 80's oilfield company!

As every construction company this one has ups and downs as well. I was with Kichton nearly 2 years. Due to my position ( equipment hauler/driver ) I worked long days and all weeks but in return i had great paycheque and whenever I was asking for day off for family I was getting it with no problem. Like in every company this company one also have good and bad coworkers. In average in my driving department I was very happy/ we had very organized team of drivers. Im 10 + years in driving industry and I had the best dispatch with Kichton. In average the work was stressful, demanding but in return I got experience with equipment which I never run before and my wage was higher then in other similar places. 

If you like working and you reliable they will see it and bump your wage up in return. I left for personal reasons but it was one of my favourites work 

I worked both in town and out of town work, as well as in the shop.
The lower level employees are all awesome, helpful, and friendly, they create a great work environment. 

Most of the Management was good (or great) to deal with save for a few exceptions. some management was on a different frequency than the rest of the company. 

Until you get to the owners, ALL of my interactions with any of them were amazing, they're down to earth and efficient, I dealt with one of them on a regular basis and I would work with/for him specifically without a second thought. 

Hours were erratic but it usually equaled out to something reasonable over 1-2 pay periods. Job security was fairly good and there is opportunity for advancement.

Overall a pretty good place to work minus the few obviously bad apples

I would get a call the night before with a job site and directions. the next morning I would go in at the time specified with enough time to warm up truck and check it over. Top up any fluids and get on the road to the site and then haul what ever material to what ever dump site was specified by the superviser. Until we got the last load signal from the operator. and we would have to wait till we got a call as to wether we were going to work the next day or not. the trucks were dispatched by differant people every month. as the super viser would put in a request for how many trucks and for how long a few hours or possibly all day and then even if the same job was needing trucks you might get pulled off to some where else or even sit the next day. depending on where u were in the order.

The most poorly managed and operated buisness I’ve had the opportunity to work for. Been in the construction industry for 20 years and never seen such favouritism and shady work bieng done. Nobody knows what’s going on there’s no organization the people in charge haven’t a clue as to what there doing. They have superintendents that have never sat in a machine or can understand the steps to a proper process of work. I regret leaving the company i was with to come work with these people and there empty promises. I wouldent recommend anyone to work for these clowns. They still abuse there temp worker program. Pay these immigrants year round at bottom dollar and threaten them with sending them home unless they conform.  I could go on and on. 

Worked my butt off to get laid off. Some of the workers do the bare minimum the stay employed. They expect you to show up on time getting paid from 7 to 7 but expect you to be there 15 minutes early to do FLHA, Tri-Forms and i disagreed with that as thats my time and money they are wasting. Foremans I worked with were very good at what they did. Some operators even get out and help labourers when safe. I learned a TON here, they let me operate remote packers, combo roller, tampers. All you have to do is ask your crew the right questions, listen and you will learn too. I am satisfied with what I learned with this outfit. Learned how to shoot grades in 2 days its basic grade 9 math. Benefits dont kick in for 9 months. Dont be late ever.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Good pay. Good people on the crew if there is an issue it gets addressed. Approachable shift boss. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Night shift, new people. Ever changing route or area. Many time it's no road basically 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Pretty good. Leaders are good and if they have issue with you they address it and vice versa.  If you dont know ask. Safety is important 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wake at 430 SSS, go eat , go to bus. Get to site pre tour. Drive on bus to park up. Pre trip. If loaded go dump at designated dump to dozer. Go to loading tool get loaded. Repeat.  Post trip. Bus picks you up go change. Get on bus to camp. Clean up go eat. Chill  sleep do it all again.13 to go.

Highly recommend working here. Excellent work environment when working with fellow mechanics in the shop and great support from the field staff if you need a extra hand when working in the field to get the gear going out on site. Site Forman’s and supervisors are very pleasant to deal with, you will not have any issues with them as they are all very accommodating to your needs and deadlines that you give in repairs. They all show appreciation of your work, from the operations manger to the operators running the equipment you fix, they are all great people to work with and will assist you with anything you need. You will have a lot of fun working here and learn a lot.

A typical day with Kichton Construction starts with a toolbox talk, and a rundown of the day with your crew and foreman. You then start your tasks for the day and every day is something different. I've worked on a lot of different crews with Kichton and I've been pleasantly surprised with how friendly and helpful everyone is. Management is also very easygoing, and the hardest part of the job is probably the labor, but that comes with the territory of construction work. The pay is fair to the industry standard. Also, you have the option to work out of town and make a lot more money.
