Kijiji

Kijiji was not my choice of a place to work, and I did not at all enjoy the experience. It is very badly managed and lacks professionalism on a grand scale.  The managers at Kijiji are not professional, nor do they have the appropriate educational background to perform their tasks.  They expect and demand their employees to perform flawlessly, without proper training nor proper tools.
Kijiji hired me to do one job, but because they lacked suitable applicants for another position, I was thrown into a position that I did not want, or express any desire whatsoever to do. I actually was told that I had no choice, otherwise I would be let go.  
Here area few excerpts of a conversation between some of the employees at Kijiji that I thought rather interesting:  Morale is very very low because we're treated like nothing." treated like nothing? we don’t get treated at all.. we are a after thought....unless numbers are bad then its our fault." "If I were to quit from a lottery win I would tell the management how bad it is here. How unhappy the staff is. How the supervisors know nothing about morale or managing people. That if they want to succeed they should probably think of hiring different people to be in charge. But I will also tell them this when I quit with no money lol".

I genuinely enjoyed the day-to-day work and the people I worked with. The job itself is solid, the work-life balance is excellent, and the frontline team is full of good, hardworking people.

Unfortunately, the biggest problems come from higher-level management. Decision-making has been inconsistent for years, communication is poor, and leadership often feels disconnected from the reality of the job. These choices have a direct impact on morale, workflow, and long-term job security.

It’s disappointing, because the core product and the support team deserve better. If the management structure were stronger and more grounded in reality, Kijiji would be in a much better position.

Need to infuse the senior management team with intelligent thought leader types. 
Seems to be a disconnect between the internal and external brand perception. 
Slow to react to the market. 
Poor business decisions have crippled the company and negatively affected them in verticals for which they were once industry leaders. After years of being able to retain the top talent, they have lost way too many key members and have been unable to adequately replace them. 
Office is in a great location. 
People are friendly but company direction is bleak.

The majority of the workforce at Kijiji is through recruiters. I was a contractor through a recruiter and the pay was insulting to say the least. Also, if you are a contractor, you do not get to benefit from the activities and town halls. If you are a full time employee; you get paid very well. 

Kijiji full time employees get an abundance of perks from special outings, summer hours, swag, business knowledge that the contractors are not privy too even though the majority of Kijiji is contractors. Very segregated.

Very laid back work environment. Most of your day is spent on the computer researching leads and calling businesses.
I very much enjoyed my time spent there, the only bad thing was the pay. If you are not exceptional at selling ad space then you will most likely earn just the underpaid hourly wage.
Coworkers are fantastic, managers are great to work with, but high turnover because the pay is so low.

management is lacking, they do not have the knowledge of how and what training and support is needed to do your job. job expectation is high with low reward. management is completely disconnected from the industry, clients. spend money on friday lunch and events but is increasing the cost of their cilents consistently. more concerned with their appearance then the work they are doing

What is the best part of working at the company?
Some of the people I have met. Great team for the most part. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing when it's going to crash and burn.  It is well on its way, I was part of the last round of lay offs.

It was fun working with Kijiji. Everyone is friends with each other and it makes work more pleasurable. Work is fully remote now but there are some team zoom activities to keep the team spirit up.

I've learned alot of different jobs and different tasks to perform and learned that you have to ask questions about the jobs if you really want to learn and have knowledge about other things.

No one wants to take ownership of their actions. Blame keeps on passing on from one management group to another. This company is only good for someone who wants to get a feel of e-commerce issues and newbie in programming. Not good for an experienced individual.
