Convalescent Care Program is very successful. Facility is resident focused. Job title was Social Service Coordinator for the facilities Convalescent Care Program. Job consist of offering counselling and support to clients and fellow staff as needed. Responsible for updates on census information and residents' mobility. Attending multi-disciplinary meetings to discuss clients progress and function within the program. Also attending discharge planning meetings to plan discharges with clients and team to ensure client receives the necessary support for returning to the community. Also assisting in long-term care when needed and assisting Convalescent Care Programs Nursing Coordinator as required.
Primary focus as a team is the well being of each client and their specific needs. Ensuring each individual receives support needed to achieve their goals, providing a safe, secure and comfortable environment for clients while they stayed at Hawthorne.
Most enjoyable part was conversing and working with each client. Every individual has a unique personality, enjoy building rapport and conducting social service admission assessments, it provided the chance to get to know each individual and their specific goals, social history and how as a team we could assist in helping them achieve their goals.

• Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the activities of the maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry departments to ensure high standards of cleanliness and sanitation
• Established and monitored workflow, evaluate performances and production to improve quality of service
• Handling budgeting, staff scheduling, inventory and payroll using ADP and SSC
• Writing environmental reports, assuming the lead responsibility with the company;
• Participation in fire prevention and file drill procedures, including staff training
• Purchased supplies and equipment in accordance with policies and budgetary constrains
• Participated in the hiring, training and orientating of department staff
• Developed and implemented environmental strategies and action plans that ensure corporate sustainable development
• Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices
• Dealt with outside service contractors and inspectors
• Participated in the Joint Health and Safety committee with Duncan Associates to ensure safe practices around the facility

Horrible management unprofessional worst part is the management and some of the day staff! The employees are toxic and stuck in their ways and there’s nothing to fix it they don’t care about you if you walk out on the job that’s the only way to save your mental health ! There’s barely supplies you end up bringing your own soap to wash residents I had to bring supplies from home! Only reason I stayed was to help the residents otherwise terrible place! Never seen so much micromanagement from Psw coworkers who aren’t nurses and lazzzy nurses who don’t help Psw staff because their above bedside care and they do the care poorly will never recommend anyone working here or putting family here!!! I walked out last week and I’m HAPPY I did! I wish they had camera that’s worked there if I were you I would have cameras in my loved ones rooms or your screwed!! Goodluck 

The PSWs do their best in this establishment but are constantly overworked and often not granted the full time regular hours that would be of benefit to them and the residents.
Management sits in the office all day, nurses sit at the desk all day less doing medications and dressings. So as a PSW you will do everything, while short staffed, and then be reprimanded when you fall behind. Extremely stressful.
They had enough shifts available that they would call me almost 20 times per week, but were still hiring everyone as casual.
Give people a schedule and they will make it work! Noone is answering their phone and hopping out of bed to go to work at 5AM unannounced!
Not to mention the residents are rarely engaged, live in tiny rooms, and have little to no space for activities and general life enjoyment. If my parents were here I would be pulling them out and caring for them myself.

Management sucks. They'll tell you in your contract that you'll only be scheduled every other weekend, but really you'll work every weekend. Staff treats residents like garbage and nobody does a thing, even if it is reported. Everything is broken, always. Constantly understaffed and expected to do the work of 2 to 3 people. Management picks favorites, so if you're new and a senior employee doesn't like you for any reason, expect to be crapped on. They make you do computer work at home that should be done there and they should be finding time for you to do it during your working hours, but they don't and they'll suspend you if you don't complete it. Management refuses to step in to actually help when short staffed. The only time they care about anything is when ministry is coming in to do an inspection. Management chastises you for small mistakes, but gives you little to no direction on how to fix it.

Provide personal care to residents, including bathing, grooming and oral hygiene with an acceptable standard of skill, sense of responsibility, and respect for privacy
Promote comfort and safety for the resident in accordance with standards of resident care
Feed residents and assist with their meals as required, provide nourishment between meals
Assist in escorting residents to specific programs and activities
Make resident’s beds, change linen, tidy dresser, bedside tables and other furniture, collect bag soiled linen for dispatch to laundry and sort and store clean linen
Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting changes in the residents' physical and emotional condition
Assists with the maintenance of records reflecting each resident’s condition, care and specific treatments. Document on flow sheets, progress notes and care plans as per system.

Working at Hawthorne Place Care Centre has been an invaluable learning experience for me. I've gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of long-term care and the importance of providing compassionate, person-centered care to residents. I've also learned the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving in a dynamic healthcare environment. 
The management team at Hawthorne Place Care Centre has demonstrated a commitment to supporting staff members and prioritizing resident well-being. They provide guidance, resources, and training opportunities to help employees excel in their roles. Additionally, they foster a culture of open communication and transparency, allowing for feedback and collaboration among staff members.


Started off as front line staff and worked my way into manager position; learned all about Long Term Care, Ministry and challenges seniors face. Part of the leadership team, was proud of my accomplishments and also faced numerous obstacles with the company's history, receivership, high turnover of managers etc.

Typical day involved staffing challenges, my own dept or the homes; daily issues arise with residents that need attention-put fires out and try to offer constant support and stability for the residents we get to work for and with.

Hardest part of job-dealing with toxic staff-conflict resolution
Most enjoyable part-worked on a nine month art therapy display wall-very proud our accomplishment-its very expressive-residents very talented-had a ceremony involving a ribbon cutting, MPP, MP, families, staff an media all involved!!

I have worked in several LTC facilities and Sprucedale is, by far, one of the better homes.  It presents as a clean, well maintained home from the moment you step onto the property and continues into each of the residents rooms.  
Most of the staff are great - from housekeeping, dietary, BSO, PSW's and Registered Staff to management and the owners.  As always, you will have some staff who tend to butt-heads with others; but honestly, most of the staff are great.
Management, for the most part, are very receptive to concerns or thoughts about areas of improvement - I do feel that my concerns are mostly taken seriously.
The home really does pride itself on being inclusive to everyone; and does have a strong "family" atmosphere.
Overall, I would 100% recommend Sprucedale as a place to work!

The day starts with analyzing and evaluating the treatments and current health status of the resident. Any improvements or any action to be taken to improve the quality of life is taken in to consideration. The falls status,The Minimum Data Set(RAI MDS), and any  discharge history of the resident and further action plan will be discussed by the Physiotherapist. The residents are seen according to the schedule per day which includes ambulation with one person or two person assisted. Exercises to improve Strength, Coordination, Balance, Range of Motion are given appropriately while taking their health conditions in to consideration. Different equipments' and pain reduction modalities are frequently used to improve the quality of life.
