I am writing a review as animal care staff. Your prior experience does not matter. If you have been in the field for a long time, your skills will stagnate. The majority of the job is cleaning and husbandry and animal restraint for blood collection. There are dogs, cats, and mice housed in the facility. 

It might be a good place for brand new graduates, there are things to be learned about research. Major problems include unequal opportunity. As other reviews have mentioned, due to the team environment there is a lot of gossip and drama. People in this company do not know how to handle normal complaints and feedback. The HR duties are dispersed to management instead of a real HR department. A better policy would be for people to sort out their own problems instead of everything being escalated. There is an 'in' group. If you aren't part of it you will be criticized for everything that you do until you fit in or leave.

There are mandatory weekends where you will be required to work 7 days in a row and lots of extra shifts. The work-life balance is not ideal.

An easy way to get promoted is to say you are quitting or to quit and then return to the work. The work itself is not very important in the scope of research. Senior management has to let go of being HR as this is not working well for them.

Pros: the animals are cute and try to give them a happy life, good for new grads with little experience

Cons: skills stagnate, have to see toxic people a lot, research isn't very important in the overall picture and you wonder why you are doing what you have to do

I enjoyed working at KFI - my manager was very reasonable, easy to talk to and helped me get better at my job. The expectations were clear. All people who work here love animals. As a small company, the options for advancement are limited, but they definitely look internally first for promotions. Senior management seems to care about all staff. I heard about several staff members being supported financially and extra time off becuase of unexpected personal issues, outside of KFI's normal vacation and sick days. Paid sick days are nice - 10 of them. KFI doesn't tolerate people who are rude or full of drama, and while I was there I saw them make improvement over moving these people along and hiring more reasonable, willing to work hard staff. 

I worked here for some time and as much as I enjoyed the animals ( they are absolutely wonderful) there is nothing else positive about this place. 

I was shunned and punished on a daily basis for simple things like saying hi. 

I found that working here I needed to have my back up constantly. Being bullied every day takes its toll on you. 

Management needs to seriously be corrected ( fire them all and start over. That's the only hope this place has) 

The world environment is filled with cliques and is competitive and cut throat and toxic. 

The environment is stressful and there is no work life balance.

The pay is also below average for the amount of work you do. 

I love my job and find the work we do incredibly meaningful. The CEO is kind and compassionate, and cares about her employees. The majority of employees are young (20-30) so there is a certain amount of maturity-related issues (e.g., gossiping, cliques). On heavy workload days the company often provides snacks and lunch. Overall, I am very satisfied with my job and the people I work with. I think it's an excellent place to work. 

I started as a animal care attendant in the back when I was in high school working weekends. As I worked I was given the opportunity to learn new skills in the Lab and with regards to safe animal handling. When I wanted a new challenge I was trained in the front office on quickbooks and basic book keeping. The staff in the front office were just as welcoming as the crew in the back. 

I was sad to have to end my employment as I was moving away for school but would definitely recommend working here. 

Really such a shame how disappointing it is to work at KFI. Salary is terrible, with little to no opportunities for advancement. There is a generally toxic dynamic in the workplace, very political and us versus them mentality. Would not recommend working here, there are better opportunities out there to advance your career in research, veterinary medicine.

Senior staff are toxic and rude. Management does not know how to run a business. Grown adults behave like high school cliques. Some people have flexibility with schedules and some don’t, it just depends who you are. This place won’t be around much longer because nobody of value will put up with the low pay and awful treatment.

Being an Animal Care Attendant, you must love what you do. it is hard and sometimes dangerous work. Great team of coworkers. Management is understanding and passionate about what we do at Kingfisher. You learn new processes every day, from laboratory tasks to what it really takes to run a study.

The best part of the job is the animals. If you are new to the animal care field, kingfisher would be great for field placement (in college), or a summer job. This is not a job meant to be long term, otherwise you will be overworked and burnt out. Overall, toxic work environment and a high turnover rate 

I would steer clear of this place at all cost. It's a toxic workplace full of harassment and mental stress. They love to overwork you until you burnout and you will work with a lot of backstabbers who turn a blind eye to bullies for pocket change. Terrible management. Terrible atmosphere.
